If you are ending on the Falcon the ending shot should be the group shot of everyone, not the Falcon going into hyperspace. The music will need to be adjusted accordingly.
Oh, that could work better … I’d like to see a clip of that!

A little off topic Hal, but have you considered how to end the film yet? I see a lot of edits that end with the Falcon going into hyperspace which just looks bad. If you go that approach, I think you should consider ending with the shot of everyone on the Falcon. I did a very rough mock-up which has the incorrect closing circle since my freeware program is very limited, but it gives the same idea either way.

That works a lot better. Since you see it is still charging it gives the impression that Poe just needs to buy a few more seconds before he can go. It does not seem as drawn out or too quick and I think it plays out well.
Maybe something along these lines works better:
Poe: "Urgent message"
Hux: "Monologue"
Show engine charging in the x-wing
Poe: "Okay I’ll hold"
Hux: "Can he hear me?"
Officer: "I believe he’s toying with you sir"
Poe: "BB-8 punch it"
Officer: "He’s going for the dreadnaught."
Hux: “He’s insane.”
Slightly keeping the humor but toning it down.
Post is from TK-422 on another TLJ fanedit topic, I cannot figure out how to link his post but all credit is his. I definitely think this is something you should consider for your edit:
One idea I’ve been thinking about for the past few days is to push the “Luke’s Moment” deleted scene all the way to the point where Rey leaves Ach-Tu. I think that a lot of the issue people took with Luke’s characterization in TLJ was due to how bitter and dismissive he seemed. Obviously he ends up being the Luke Skywalker everybody loves, but we never really see that transition take place. He’s constantly bitter for 90 minutes, has the scene with Yoda, and then is suddenly the hero everybody has dreamt of. But if you move him having a moment in his hut to the point where Rey confronts him about how he turned Ben to the dark side, it’s a lot more meaningful.
I think that the intent of the deleted scene was to show his reaction to Han’s death, but it doesn’t come off that way. The sequence of events is “Where’s Han” < Kylo talking to Snoke < Kylo breaking his mask in the elevator < Rey telling Luke he needs to return < Luke Has A Moment. It doesn’t really fit. But if you have that deleted scene right after Luke talks about how he nearly killed Ben Solo, it takes on an entirely new meaning. You’d have to cut his brief fight with Rey, so that he seems much more defeated than furious, as well a few of his earlier lines. Some other cuts would be needed to accommodate for this of course, but I think that it could work.
It would also get rid of cutting to Leia in hyperspace for one shot only, and then immediately back to Rey and Luke, and there seems to be no clear consensus on how to approach this transition. With the change I’m thinking of, the sequence of events would be:
Luke tells Rey the truth and Rey leaves < Finn and Rose in Hyperspace with DJ < Poe finding out about Holdo’s plan < Rey being dropped off at Snoke’s Star Destroyer < Luke has a moment < Rey and Kylo in the elevator < Some antics while sneaking around Snoke’s ship < Luke communicating with Leia via The Force < Poe’s Mutiny. Then everything else is in the same order as the theatrical cut until Kylo declares himself Supreme Leader. After that moment we get Luke and Yoda’s scene. Obviously these are all just ideas floating around my head, and I’m sure once you actually sit down to edit the film, things will be different, but the general idea still stands.
The prequel edits are now finished, this will be a day long remembered. I can assure we are all looking forward to your TLJ cut. Best of luck to you!
I decree an unofficial halt on posting until adywan is caught up. He has a lifetime’s worth of readying to do, plus replys. Lets all agree to give him a break. Nice to see you back btw.
How about you let him decide Captain.
Is LOE 720p still uploading? Right now there are 7 zipped archives that only equal 3.25GB. I downloaded and extracted but it is saying there is a problem with the video file being incomplete.
One more point to add before I cave in… Luke throwing the lightsaber and then using it at the end is symbolic, but using the green makes his story come more full circle as the last time we saw him use it on screen was the event that brought about his self-imposed exile and the events in this movie. Luke using the green at the end resolves the problems he had even before Rey presented him with the blue. In my mind it would be more symbolic that once Rey picks up the blue after Luke tosses it away, it remains her’s until the end as it symbolizes that she will need to move forward on her own.
I am looking forward to your edit, anything you release will be loads better than what we actually got.
I agree with you, but to play devil’s advocate, the blue one symbolizes Luke accepting Rey’s request for help (and his “role in all this”) that he rejected by tossing that same lightsaber aside at the beginning of the film, so changing it to the green one would lose that bit of symbolism.
To play devil’s advocate to your devil’s advocate… I think it is more symbolic for the green one to be used as it shows Luke has grown past his mistakes and is ready to take on the role “burden” of being a master once more and has “let the past die” as he overcame his moment of weakness and will eliminate Kylo for the right reasons now. I get that the blue is a hint that he isn’t there but the footwork on the salt and the wink at C-3PO do that enough, since Threepio can scan life forms and would know that he wasn’t actually there, hence the wink. Since I’m ranting on… I would like to see Hal include Luke’s shoulder dustoff in his edit. I get that it is a little over the top, but I take it that Luke is so done with Kylo’s s*** and wants to rub it in that he is more powerful, adding even more to Kylo’s anger.
Do you plan on leaving Luke using the blue lightsaber on Crait? If Luke’s goal was to make Kylo angry and distract him, what better way to do that than to use the lightsaber that Kylo hates so much? Almost seems like a no brainer and I’m still confused as to why Rian chose the blue one. I do not have the skills to edit it myself but maybe one of the awesome editors here can tackle it and do a rotoscope and hilt replacement.
Here’s some new ones.
A Very Rough rotoscope on Anakin on mustafar.
I’m honestly not sure which one is the original.
Goes to show how pointless this edit is. The right shot could be found in either environment with no rotoscoping required.
Im just doing this for Fun that’s all.
Just ignore him, he likes to be cool and pop up on threads just to tell people how “useless and stupid” their ideas are. Your ideas seem fun and creative and offer a different take on what could have been.
Google Drive download works properly. 😃
JEDIT: Windows Extraction and WinRAR do not work to extract, you must use 7-Zip on Windows-based computers.
I’m not sure if this had been mentioned before, but I would like to see Luke and Yoda’s scene moved directly before Crait. All hope seems lost for the Resistance until Luke realizes what he needs to do to help them. A problem with this could be it going from night to day to sunset very fast with the Luke scenes.
Hope all is well Hal. I posted this in another thread before but your edit of TLJ is the one I’d be most excited for. Here is the supposed deleted scene list for TLJ that leaked out:
JEDIT: Target ad mostly comfirmed these as well as saying “Phasma’s Death” so it is unlikely she will be back for IX if that helps make your decision for her character.
Possible deleted scene list has been making its rounds online. It seems some are throwaways while others may be good to use. Let’s hope for no overlaid timecodes this time.
Are there any shots in this movie where it’d be worth it to try to rotoscope the necklace in?
If any, the secret wedding at the end would probably be the best narrative-wise.
I interpreted the force ghost scene with Yoda as him being stronger in the force than Obi-Wan and being able to physically appear as a ghost greater than Obi-Wan could; which is why he could react with the world more too. He still looked “off” to me though and I think a color correction would help with the scene.
I know it’s late of me to comment, but this is clearly not the thread for your own personal plans.
You seem like a nice fellow…
I was replying to a posted comment with my thoughts and how I would go about it if I were to. I did not know that it was a crime to share opinions on a forum website based on sharing opinions. In the future, I won’t post my own personal thoughts for any edits I may or may not create on another edit’s thread.
Better? 😉
I think it’s time to address the blue elephant in the room. 😉
How is Lapti Nek being handled? I would like to see it stay in Revisited but that Sy Snootles puppet is god awful, and so is the newer CGI version of the scene. I came across a hybrid someone made on YouTube, it’s an interesting idea that’s tolerable.
Would anyone happen to have a link to A New Hope: Revisited? I have only been able to find it as multiple files. Any chance the whole movie is on 1 file?
Is this what you need?
