My head agrees, but I’m forever grateful to George for not doing that, meaning my childhood is forever alive on Endor watching the Ewoks have a party!

It was so awful I couldn’t finish it. Turned it off after about 20 or 30 mins. And that was being generous. I wanted to stop after about 10 mins but tried to give it the benefit of the doubt.

But geez. It’s basically a pathetic, miserable man being pathetic and miserable and making everyone around him miserable too. What was wrong with people that they would vote for this trash over Star Wars?

I think the purest, most classic narrative of the story is Rey’s descent to the dark side, perhaps the best improvement on the past two ST episodes, both since she had room in her arc after VIII (unlike the other characters) and since she hadn’t had much struggle. She tries to take more and more responsibility on herself, and I got more and more frustrated (in a good way) with her failures the more she tried to take on herself. Her force lightning was such a powerful moment (despite the cheap reveal after). Then her darkest moment comes at the death star, where she throws Finn away and gets more and more angry at Ren, and as she goes in a downward spiral to the dark side she gets weaker. Ren is in total control besides a miraculous intervention with Leia, and Rey kills Ren at her darkest.

The best thing about is how those moments are all felt, not heard, and earned, not stolen, unlike most of the movie. That kind of characterization is what Star Wars is built on.

Isn’t the whole point of the PT that the Jedi spend too much time worrying about nonsense and therefore took their eye off what was really important?

I’ve always had a tulmtous relationship with my Dad, who passed away a few years ago and who I believe to have had a case of high functioning autism. I have felt a great deal of immutable criticism from him and longed for affirmations or validations which were exceedingly rare. It’s been helpful for me to recognize some of the underlying factors and the limitations he was working with all along.
One reason I appreciate the original ‘old man’ ghost of Anakin at the end of ROTJ is because not only do we see Anakin redeemed in the unmasking scene, we even get to see him fully restored into the man he should have been all along. He doesn’t revert to a juvenile state, but is legitimately restored to become what he wasn’t able to be. I know it’s a bit silly, but the image of this sort of restored man smiling back at me speaks to this deep part of me. Able to say those things to me which perhaps he wasn’t before.

Exactly how I always saw that scene even as a kid. Great post!
