Great video Gaffer. I foresee a new youtube series, The Angry, Confused, Jabba Rescue Plan Hating, Film Reviewing Geek. You could give guys like Confused Matthew and The Angry Nintendo Video Game Nerd a run for their money.

And the bit with the chair cracked me up, right before the comment popped up on the video I was thinking, "Wow, he really needs to oil that chair."

Well, now it is out there in the open. As more and more people begin watching this video, they will realize the logical FU that the whole Jabba's Palace bit as been from the very beginning, and begin to talk about it with their friends. I predict the whole thing will spread like a minor epidemic until it finally reaches George. Once George hears of this, he will reveal that it was always in his original vision that the Jabba Palace rescue was intended to be completely logical, but due to technical limitation of the 80's, they had to compromise and go for an illogical plan instead.

Of course you realize that this means YOU Gaffertape, will be responsible for the extreme changes that this scene undergoes in the new, possibly upcoming, Blu-ray Specialestester Edition of Return of the Jedi.

Yeah, I'll call myself the ACJRPHFRG for short.  Kinda rolls off the tongue, doesn't it? ^_~

And I was cringing when I edited the thing and noticed that horrible chair noise.  I didn't notice it in the least when I was filming.  Oy.

Hmm, my fault, though, huh?  Well, he'll just half-ass it anyway.  He'll probably throw in some dark-side force creature who sits on Luke's shoulder and whispers bad plans in his ear.

Badd Despotter:  Hey, Luke.  It would be a great plan, and totally in line with the good side if you send all your friends in to get captured first before you show up.

Luke:  Really, Badd?

Badd Despotter:  Sure!  And Obi-Wan would really be proud of you if you killed every reveller on the skiff!  In fact, I bet it would make you a full Jedi!

Luke:  Wow.  Really, Badd?

(Later)

Luke:  I sure am glad I got rid of that guy.  But with a name like Badd, how would I have known he wasn't good?

And then the movie gets better.

Well, I just can't ever let this thread die, can I?!  But I have a good reason for resurrecting it again.  I actually just finished editing together a video version of my original argument!

It's a bit premature for me to be posting this since it hasn't processed yet as of this writing, but I'm just too excited to wait.

Ooh, wait!  It's ready!

When was the turning point for TF.NET?
Time

Yeah, that's always confused me, too, and, to a degree, it's happening right now in another fandom:  Dragon Ball.

A lot of fans (myself included) bitched when FUNimation began releasing their DBZ boxsets cropped into 16:9.  Now that Dragon Ball Kai is out and is also cropping the footage to widescreen, I've heard so many people saying, "Hah!  Now all those people who complained about FUNimation are getting what they deserve!"

Ugh, people are just stupid.

Yeah, I was surprised to see they fixed Vegeta's colors, especially since they didn't fix his colors in the previous episode.  But because they didn't do that, and because they didn't fix Nappa's colors... it just seems like they half-assed the whole thing.

And, yeah, the censoring is stupid too.  It just looks like Goku has a bruise on his chest rather than a gaping hole.  Sigh, apparently Japan has gotten has hypersensitive as America about content over the past 20 years.  We lost baby Goku's tackle as well.

Nice pink bubblegum screen caps there by the way, lol.  His saber is red in the gout. The 2004 deserves to be thrown in the trash bin.  Pink Lightsaber.  Hayden in the ghost scene.  Jar Jar, and Jedi Rocks.

Geez, sky, you really have it in for the color pink, don't you?  I mean, yeah, obviously it's a mistake, and it's supposed to be red, but this is at least the second thread in the past few days where you've just steamrolled over pink lightsabers, pink gum, and the very concept of pink!

Did the color pink kill your father or something? ^_~

Star Wars is for children. Adults: Stop being selfish.
Time

I think it was '77/'78, but I could be wrong.  That is, either he was quoted as saying it then or was recounting that he originally heard it then.  It's in The Secret History of Star Wars, at least the first version.

EDIT:  But I don't think that necessarily steps on the toes of the evolution of the Emperor.  I just added in the force lightning explanation for a new version of the scene.  It doesn't necessarily mean that that's what happened in the account that Mark Hamill is speaking of.  I mean, the Emperor could have shown up with dozens of armed guards, and that's what scared Obi-Wan off.  Of course, I'm just speculating on that too.

Yeah, I recently thought this could have worked better using an element from the older version of this backstory, or at least a version that Mark Hamill recounted back in the day.

He said that George told him that Obi-Wan, Father Skywalker, and Darth Vader all get together for a duel (you know, why not?  ^_~), Father Skywalker is killed, and Obi-Wan eventually gets Darth Vader fried, but Obi-Wan is forced to retreat because the Emperor shows up.

Obviously, since the whole duel concept was thought up back when Obi-Wan was avenging Father Skywalker's death at the hand of Darth Vader, Obi-Wan leaving him to die would make a lot more sense.  But this interesting variation with all three characters being present, and then the Emperor showing up... well, that would have worked for this.  Vader gets set on fire, and Obi-Wan's going to put him out of his misery, but then Palpatine shows up and tries to lightning bolt him, so Obi-Wan is forced to flee so Palpatine can do his experiments.

Unfortunately, George wanted to have the Vader/Obi-Wan duel intercut with the Palpatine/Yoda duel, so it's still pretty amazing that Palpatine gets to Mustafar as fast as he does.

Well, I wouldn't go that far. I mean, in the sense that it might have been interesting to see the whole thing remade from the ground-up... well, yeah, that would have made more sense than what they did. But as far as the animation style, I much prefer the way the characters looked at that era of Toriyama's style than the angular, blocky looks they have in the newer animation.

Come to think of it, this has always made me wonder... what exactly did the Empire do to them anyway?  I mean, when we see Stormtroopers, they're usually just firing blaster rifles.  They singe a little bit... but this?  I mean, even Darth Vader walked away from a near lava dip in better condition than this!

Poll: ROTJ Celebration Themes - 1983 or 1997?
Time

I think you're missing the point a bit.  From what I've read, most people who've voted in favor of it have made sure to point out that they still prefer Yub Nub on principle and like the new song in spite of the fact that it's special edition.  To me, that says quite a bit about the maturity of these people who can still give an objective opinion on something even though their initial mindset is to be skewed.  For my part, even if I thought all of the special edition changes were improvements, my bias against changing films at all would cause me to rebel against it... but I would still admit to thinking the changes were improvements.

One of the flaws with Anakin turning to the darkside...
Time

I don't know.  I've been thinking about this, and it is interesting (although probably not intentional) to think that maybe Obi-Wan didn't just lie to protect Luke, but he was also oblivious to the relationship he and Anakin had in the first place.  You've seen it before, those friendships where one person is totally devoted to the other and completely unable to see that the other one can barely stand him.  Maybe Obi-Wan was that delusional guy who never could tell that his overbearing advice was totally pissing off his pupil.  "Oh, he's just screwing around with me.  That Anakin!  What a buddy!"  "Um... no, I actually hate you."  "Ah, there you go again!"

A generation later:  "Oh, Luke.  Your father and I were best friends.  We were so close that he used to say things like how much he hated me and wanted to kill me, but I know he didn't really mean it.  Ah, those were the days.  What a rebellious little scamp.  And a good friend."

Whoops, I never answered the original question.  If I had the original versions in good quality, I would never plunk down money for any new-fangled version, nor would I support any other change whatsoever.  I already own more copies of this trilogy than any other movie ever.  I haven't watched the '97 version in over four years, and I haven't watched the '04 version in over two years, so any other future alterations will be completely ignored by me.  Well, that's not entirely true.  They'll be ignored by my wallet.  It doesn't mean I won't bitch about them.  ^_~

Yep, I did.  And still do, as a matter of fact.
