Last web series/tv show seen
Time

So I've nearly finished season 6 of Deep Space Nine, and it's absolutely riveting.  But then I saw "Valiant," an episode where Jake and Nog are rescued by a group of cadets in over their heads running a ship.  The only problem is that they're the biggest group of smug assholes I've ever seen.  Every time the first officer opened her mouth, I wanted to cave in her skull with a rock.  It was absolutely painful to sit through this episode, and the only enjoyable part is when they all die!

I think this episode exists solely to show TNG fans how good they had it with Wesley.

Heh, thanks, Frink.  I really appreciate that.  As for the, um, rushing of words, well, that's less of a tendency than it is an artificial construct.  For several of these contest videos, even after I prune my script as far as I think I can, and edit out as much footage as I can, I still find myself way over the time limit.  So to make up for that I actually do take my audio and speed it up a little.  And, yeah, it annoys me, and I think it was particularly bad on my more recent one (but don't tell anyone; the judges haven't done their deliberations yet).  I suppose that really doesn't make any difference to the watcher, and it might actually seem worse since you know I'm not only doing it on purpose but actually making it that way... Ah, well, my dirty little secret is out. =P

But at any rate, I'm flattered that I came to mind for late night baby-holding entertainment.  Sure I was the last choice, but I'll take what I can get. ^_~

I love Confused Matthew.  I was introduced to him when someone linked to his Star Wars prequel reviews on this site nearly two years ago, and I've been hooked ever since.  Yeah, he did get a lot of flack for his 2001 review, but, yeah, he was purposely avoiding 2001's historical significance because he felt it more important to judge the film by its own merits as a storytelling entity, not in regards to its places in the annals of filmmaking history, shot composition, and special effects pioneering.

@ Vidiot - are you aware of, and have you ever visited the Forums at originaltrilogy.com?

Your info would be very interesting to a lot of people over there who critique the work, often baseless, and go to great lengths to "correct the films" themselves.

You should check it out sometime, if you haven't already.

lol

Wait... our TheCassidy?!  *shock*  I feel... betrayed!

Warb, if you think I'm trying to accuse you of anything, let alone leading a lynch mob or trying to villify you, then I apologize.  That was never my intention.  You have a much longer history with Dayv than I do, and maybe it's not my place to imply I know better than you.  I only came into this thread because it was concerning me some of the language flying around in it.  Again, I'm not saying you don't have cause to be suspicious.  I'm suspicious.  Quite suspicious.  But I can see this isn't doing anyone any good, so I think I'll have to once again bow out of this thread until something new happens.

lets put it this way:  which way do you think it is more probable that we will get additional info,   by continuing this conversation and putting more pressure on Dayv, or by remaining silent and letting him off the hook?

See, this is the kind of attitude I'm talking about, Warb.  Again, I totally understand why you feel the way you do.  Your concerns are justified, and, given the actions that have been taken or not taken since the accusations, probably warranted.  But in most of your posts since the accusation first came out, this is the kind of sentiment I've been feeling from you.  Not that you want to find the truth, but just that you want to expose Dayv for the fraud you're already convinced he is.  It seems you've already made up your mind.  And by this point, I guess I can't blame you for having done so.  But I recall reading posts from you that were written before Christmas where I just found myself thinking, "If Dayv were to suddenly come through with absolutely convincing, irrefutable evidence, Warb will have said a lot of things he can't take back.  He's made it perfectly clear where he stands on this."  And that's what has worried me for a few weeks now.

. This isn't a court of law and Dayv isn't on trial.

that is exactly why innocence until proven guilty does not apply.  imho.

If you ask me, innocence until proven guilty isn't just an American court law, it's a standard of decency, a symbol of etiquette, a civilized gesture that we will refrain from treating someone like a criminal until we know that person is a criminal.  Now you put yourself on the line for Dayv.  You started this thread, this movement to get him money.  The level of betrayal you would feel if you found out he had lied to you is immense.  And I'm not even going to say that a lot of the actions Dayv has taken (or not taken) since this accusation came out isn't suspicious.  I have doubts.  Strong doubts.  And, yes, I agree that it is up to Dayv to prove the veracity of his claims.  I'm not disputing the steps.  It's the attitude that's bothered me.

Forgive me for getting involved in this, but "until there is irrefutable proof, we all have to think the worst" is fucking bullshit.  Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty?  Now I agree that Dayv has been put under a burden to prove the veracity of his claims, which, by the way, I thought was a matter between Jay and Dayv, but so many people in this thread have done nothing but basically say, "I'm going to treat you like a criminal until you prove otherwise... asshole!"  I'm also not saying there hasn't been reason to be extremely suspicious, and I am quite interested to see what the truth to this situation is, but, JediTray, I think you're being extremely melodramatic.  Unless, of course, you donated money, requested a refund, and haven't been given it back.  In that case, I can certainly see you having a stronger, vested interest in it than most.  But until there is something along the lines of "irrefutable proof," can we please put down the fucking pitchforks?  But regardless of the outcome, this guilty until proven innocent mentality bullshit never needs to come up again!

I was so busy looking at the colors (despite being color blind) that I didn't even notice any of the oddities until I saw Jar-Jar smiling at me at the end.  There was a double take back to the other pictures.

Anyway, I haven't been in this section of the forum for a while, so I'm a little late to the party.  But suffice it to say, I don't give a rat's ass whether these colors are the '04 colors, some new '11 color, black and white, or 3-D, or neon.  Even if the colors were the original colors, I still wouldn't be buying this if it's just the special editions.  I don't care how awesome their special features are.

Oh, and I don't own a Blu-ray player or Hi-Def TV.

Aww, thanks, kev.  I appreciate your support, although it seems to have garnered as much attention as I expected when I hesitated posting a link to it.  Not that I don't love my OT friends and am sure they're relatively fond of me too.  But it's just soooo meta that I find it hard to believe anyone who doesn't already follow Geekvolution would find anything of interest in it.  But, you know, I do what I gotta do.  Still have a contest going on!

You do realize the public school are run by elected officials who are elected by the reactionary parents because they do these type of things?

I'm not disagreeing with you, but the problem is fundamental to the system.

Yes, I am aware of that.  But, as you said, "the problem is fundamental to the system."  Therefore, the system needs to be changed, not history, and not historical literature.  I have read the introduction to the NewSouth edition (which, by the way, I think is exactly the kind of vague, nondescript, bland term I was afraid it would be labeled with) and found it to be exactly the kind of apologetic nonsense that's all about acquiescing to what's "comfortable" than what's reality.  Personally, my fear is that schools and readers might flock to what's "comfortable" leading to the NewSouth edition becoming the mainstream edition, while the real story is relegated to academics or intelligentsia as some kind of historical relic.  I do think it's a good idea to put Sawyer and Finn together, but I do think part of the motivation behind doing it in this edition was to provide a buffer.  Notice how that decision is talked about in length before dropping the bombshell that the text has been edited.

I just think that's creating a new problem rather than fixing the problem that ought to be fixed.  Stop listening to reactionary parents.  Stop being so easily cowed by political correctness.  Guess what?  The role of schools is to EDUCATE, not WHITEWASH so-called objectionable content.  If Huck Finn is being banned from schools, the problem isn't the book, it's the morons banning it.

And then follow my post with everything Warb's said.  He's spot on.

Damn it, you beat me to it.  A friend of mine on facebook pointed this out, and I was livid.  Granted, I'm not AS livid because apparently this is just going to be one edition, and the original is still going to exist.  I still think it's completely asinine that people feel such an edition needs to exist.  But as long as they clearly mark this bastardized version as Huck Finn CENSORED or Huck Finn WATERED DOWN or Huck Finn FOR SPINELESS POLITICALLY CORRECT SISSIES, then at least I'll be able to tolerate it.

But you know what?  Remember that whole slavery thing?  Yeah, I know thinking about it makes me feel kinda uncomfortable.  I think we should rewrite the history books so that cotton plantations are forever referred to as fluffy amusement parks for black people.  There.  I feel much better now.
