October Batman Release
Time
I've never seen Batman Begins, but October will see the release of one of my favorite Batman movies... and that's the original 1943 Columbia Batman serial. I'm a little bit sad because I have the 1990 tapes that I've never seen in anyone else's possession. Now it will be released to the public again, and I won't feel as special. But I need some backup copies. And, hopefully, it will be the uncensored version, which I've never seen before. I love the Japanese and all, but I think it's only fair to release the audio track intact... if it still exists since the censored track was created in the 1960s. If anyone has any idea what I'm talking about (or cares to know more since I'm pretty big on these cornball but fun serial), feel free to post here!

500th post!

Which Yoda is you Fav?
Time
Yeah, I always hated the prequel voice. There was always something that bugged me about it. TPM Yoda sounded too Muppetish... the voice was just extremely high. And then it gives a 180 for the other two and sounds really gravelly with a hint of squeaky. It's just weird. And it might have something to do with the horrible lines he was given as well.

I also have a hard time accepting Yoda's lightsaber skills. Yes, they look cool and it's exciting, but beyond that initial wow factor three years ago, you realize how ridiculous the concept is. Yoda always seemed somehow above swordfighting. He was an inner strength kind of guy, and it didn't need to manifest itself outwardly. He had insight and could move objects with the flick of the wrist. He didn't need to be so overtly kickass. It made him seem less Yoda and more like your generic Jedi thug. And it was all done for eye candy. Palpatine got the same sucky treatment in Sith. Apparently you can't have knowledge of the Force without resorting to making a laser sword.

And it makes little sense for Yoda's ability to be active. You can argue that spending a generation on Dagobah could ruin his physical side. But he seemed active enough in Empire. Plus, you have to understand that Yoda lived to be 900 years old. Twenty years is just a drop in the bucket for him. So I was flabbergasted in TPM when Yoda looked like a young... um, man, whatever. And, yeah, the inconsisitencies between flying squirrel and doddering invalid from scene to scene doesn't even deserve any more discussion. It simply makes no sense.

No Episode III on VHS

I wouldn't watch it. I don't care to buy it. But considering that all the others have been on VHS, and the format isn't as dead as disco or vinyl or 8-tracks or dinosaurs, that it wouldn't have killed them to make a VHS release for this last Star Wars movie. I betcha there's a PSP release for it...

Official thread to complain about textbooks/bookstores
Time
I had to take College Algebra last year (well, I could have taken higher, but I only needed one math credit, and that's easy), and I had to buy a $70 book with software. I never even cracked the damn book. All we did was use the software. And then they refused to buy it back at the end of the year because it had already been opened! And this year is even worse. My girlfriend is a freshman now, and she's in College Algebra, and they're still selling that crap for $70, but now it's just the CD and no book! $70 for a fuggin' CD?!

Poll: who is hotter. Padme or Princess Leia
Time
Wow, that's slightly harsh.

You know, with all the forced tie-ins between the prequels and the original trilogies (Chewbacca, the droids, etc.) I'm surprised Lucas didn't just bite the bullet and have Padme seduce Anakin in the Leia metal bikini or a reasonable facsimile. After getting past the gratitousness and the implausibility, I would have enjoyed it.

I hate meat substitutes. What's the point of something as stupid as a soy burger, when a real burger is way better? ( Or even better: a buffalo burger! mmmmm.....)

That's what stopped me from being a budhist. Soy.

Yeah, and then there's that whole "don't kill lthe cow! It might be granny!" bit.

I in turn hate stupid little sorostitutes who steal my girlfriend's PETA posters.

Can you give an example of what nonsense PeTA puts on their posters? This I've GOTTA hear!

Ask me in a nice non-biased way (yes, I'm pro-PETA, but even I know they're pretty darn biased... what do you expect, it's their job?), and I'll be glad to comply, Chaltab.

Brosnan is no longer Bond, Daniel Craig is now Bond.

OK, I just checked IMDB - THe gadget guy is called 'Q' Algy. That rings a bell, I think Bond called him 'Algy', not Q, but his official title was Q. He was played by Alex McCowen.

I seem to recall a character named Algy. Hmm. What do you know? I need to go back and watch that one again.
