"I am wondering.....why are you here?"
Time

This might only be tangentially-related to your question, but I was in a coffee shop the other night meeting up with a friend, when I overheard someone talking Star Wars with one of the baristas.  And I almost threw up.  Because he was "educating" this person with the official Lucas line:  "You know it was originally just one script.  And then he decided to cut it in half.  But then even that was too long, so he had to cut each half into thirds.  Then he realized that the first half was basically all exposition and the second half was where the action was, so he decided to film it first."  I mastered the impulse to get up and set him straight because, honestly, I didn't feel like getting into a very nerdy argument.  The most I did was mutter, "Bullshit," after every sentence he spoke.  After being forced to listen for another minute or two, I realized these weren't even TF.n gushers.  They certainly didn't seem to be fans of the prequels at all.  But they were still towing the sickening company line, and probably didn't even realize it.

Star Wars as a fandom is weird.  It is so full of misinformation, half-truths, and just plain bullshit that it's almost impossible to have anything remotely resembling a unified fanbase.  But it's not just the kind of in-universe bickering that most other fanbases have (this movie or this series is better than this movie or this series in the franchise).  It's Lucas's bullshit that splits everyone apart.

The people here are an interesting breed.  By "official" definition, most of us here aren't even Star Wars fans.  So, yeah, of course we're going to band together, in protest if not comeraderie.  Why are we here?  Because we're the freaks of the fan community, and no one else will have us. ^_~

Well, as you will later see in his abysmal dealings with Jabba the Hutt, Luke has some kind of inferiority complex that forces him to kill as many people as humanly possible.  I mean, sure, some Imperial forces might die if the AT-AT tips over due to a damaged leg, but if you really want to rack up a good kill count, blowing up the cockpit with an explosive is the safer way to go!
Speaking of which, what the hell was Luke's plan for rescuing Han? As much as I love ROTJ, I've never been able to make any sense of the plan.

I made a video trying to figure that out. It's the greatest thing ever, according to 005

Yay!  I didn't have to shamelessly plug myself!  I would do it, you know, but I never feel right about doing so.  That's why I depend on other people to shill me out. =P

Lightsabers have been shown in several spots in the movies to be able to cut through anything.

So why does Luke go all the way up to the belly of the Snow walker when he could have just as easily cut through a thin point on the walker foot, the curved ankle hinge or lateral strut: (or whatever they're called)

Luke had several seconds while the foot was planted before it began the next step.

(insert blow up Yavin IV response)

oh yeah,in regards to the whining and bitching about the unaltered OT not being released AGAIN on blu ray,,there are enough VHS's,Laserdiscs and versions on other sites for anyone to obtain the PERFECT version of the movies....

Phew.  For a second there I thought you were serious.  But once this part came along, I realized you're just goofing around.

One thing that gets me is that they have managed to make chewies face look like he does in the OT yet lucasfilm made him look completely different for ROTS.I never understood how they could get the face so wrong in ROTS.

The carbon freezing plot is bloody ridiculous though and completely ruins the danger of Han getting frozen in ESB. Lando says that if they put Luke in there it might kill him, so Vader tests it out on Han. Why would he have bothered if he knew it was a safe procedure?

Vader's line implies otherwise, as I've explained before. And the danger can be explained with the facility being crude.

Why do you think Cloud City even exists?  It's a mining colony.  They mine Tibanna Gas.  Why would you even think that mining operation has a human cryogenic freezing chamber just for shits and giggles?  And if that was the case, why would there be such a fear of death for those who use it?  Is Lando doubling as that back alley surgeon from Tijuana, and that's why his facility is "crude"?  Umm, no.  They use that facility for the freezing and transportation of the gases that they mine!

Happy Valentine's Day!

How?  Simply because I was critical of them?  Because there are aspects of Valentine's Day I don't agree with?  Do I have to be in full, dogmatic support of something for you to believe I don't think it's evil?  Can't there be any middle ground?

EDIT:  Didn't see Warb's edit.  I guess I'll debate this when I'm not in a really terrible mood and desperately want to punch something.  But since I don't think I said anything offensive or in anger, I'm leaving my post as it is.

See, there you go again.  Why is it all or nothing with you?  Just because I have a criticism of something doesn't mean I'm dismissing it out of hand.  I have a lot of criticisms about the Star Wars trilogy, but, just because I state them doesn't mean I'm lobbying for them to be destroyed and no one to ever watch them.  So, no, I never implied that holidays were evil.  Yes, I am absolutely sure about that part.  I'm sorry you interpret it that way.

BTW I think Gaffer Tape meant prescribed more than forced, following a set regime of doing or giving things on specific days rather than spontaneously and when the opportunity arises ( please correct me if I'm in error there).

Basically, yes.  "Forced" as in "large amount of social pressure to participate," not "do this or you'll be breaking a law or be completely shunned."  There are a large number of people who take things like Valentine's Day as a matter of course.  If you don't participate, you're a cad, or un-romantic, or cheap.  So, for the most part, we capitulate in order to fit in.  Good luck trying to get married without a large diamond on a finger-shaped band involved, despite the fact that it no longer serves any purpose.

But, no, Warb, I'm not necessarily trying to advocate abolishing holidays!  I guess this is where bkev's "slippery slope (disguised as a red herring)" argument kicks in.  Just because I'm applying criticism to something, you seem to think I'm lobbying to completely tear it down.  That's simply not true.

are you joking?

While I'm not necessarily demeaning all pre-conceived dates, what is it you think he's joking about?  He's simply saying that a spontaneous act of affection is what makes a date special and arguing that a forced act of affection committed simply because of a date is not.

And, yeah... Jesus's birthday is (most likely) not December 25th.  Existing pagan festivals were adapted to become the majority of what we know as modern Christmas.  I was under the impression everyone knew that.  So, again, what's the problem?
