Star Wars Time
Time

Yeah, Ziz, I always had a hard time buying that, too, until I realized that the big time skip had to take place when the Falcon headed for Bespin.  Like Akwat just said, they had no hyperdrive, so the trip had to take a long time, and that also gave Luke sufficient time to train.  So the time skip would be the wipe in between Boba Fett following and Luke (once again) lifting rocks.

I think it could have been done in a more convincing way.  Kershner has always complained that Empire moved too fast for his liking, and that it was George who wanted it pushed as speedily as possible.  Maybe it was Kersh's intention to make the passage of time more obvious.  But I'm certainly glad, however rushed it feels, that it does exist.  Otherwise, we have Luke becoming a proficient Jedi-in-training in a matter of days, and that's just bizarre.

So what exactly are you a fan of?

What say you to the rest of my criticism?

Well, I've made my own threads specifically criticizing what I don't like about ROTJ, and pretty much all of it concerns the first act of the movie.  The rest of it I enjoy.  The non-Luke characters are placeholders, but the Luke-centric stuff makes up for that.  I believe it was phoned in compared to the previous two movies but still good and has wonderful moments amid a sea of mediocrity.

As for your specific complaints, the ewoks never bothered me, nor did the transition from Wookiees to Ewoks.  First of all, his statements on the subject are prone to interpretation.  The whole concept of a wookiee battle came from the rough draft of Star Wars, which was an entirely different story than the one we ended up with.  Like the asteroid chase, it was simply a reused set piece that had to be taken in a new context in terms of the changes in story that had occurred since it was created in 1974.  I agree that ewoks were probably used to appeal to children (and his new daughter in particular), and while I agree with you and groan at George's backlash to the maturity of ESB, the ewoks still don't bother me.  I like them.  I find them realistic and charming enough.  And I've probably been biased by the prequels, but I can't stomach the thought of a wookiee battle after the boring, pointless, and forgettable one we got in ROTS.  Give me ewoks any day!

You know who would've made a great Anakin?
Time

Well, it just depends on the time frame of when the movie was made.  If it's Star Wars, then Vader's the evil, young apprentice.  If it's Return of the Jedi, then Vader's the old contemporary of Obi-Wan (which is why he's Sebastian Shaw).  And if it's through the lens of the prequels, then both of them are suddenly pretty young.  That's what happens when you make it up as you go along.

First of all, similarly-designed cameos do not a horrible, continuity-warping mistake make.  Besides, where is a Luigi analogue in Link's Awakening?  What you should be using to prove your point are the actual Mario character easter egg portraits in OoT.

And, sky, if you're going to complain about so-called science fiction concepts finding their way into fantasy (considering time travel has never been a concept limited to science fiction), you should hate Star Wars for its fantasy concepts infringing on a science fiction world.

But putting a train into a medieval world?  How is that justifiable?  In the next game, they might as well give Link wireless internet access and a Bluetooth headset.  Could we finally agree that that would be going too far?

But as long as we're on the subject of the Tingle Tuner, I have to add that's when the technology officially got too far in, and I just couldn't deny it anymore.  It's not the first time they've incorporated their own products, but at least the Stone of Agony (Rumble Pak) was just a magic stone in a funny shape.  But how can you have a working Game Boy Advance and have it be anything but a Game Boy Advance?  Sigh.  Whatever.  Now we have trains, and Link working a GBA sounds tame in comparison.

Oh, come on.  So he wants to be a fairy and dresses in green tights.  Big deal.  It's just non-normative.  Doesn't mean it's wrong.  I just don't see why he's suddenly Nintendo's favorite supporting character.  Not that many Zelda characters cross-polinate between timelines, and none other have gotten their own spinoff series.  Why him?  Why not someone less annoying?

I was about to say the same thing.  Well, I'd reiterate the desire to abandon your green-tunic-wearing pointy-eared youth, but I guess they're technically doing that if they're putting Link in a different outfit this time around.  But, yeah, screw Link.  Screw Zelda!  Do something different!  And not just a different gameplay gimmick!  Link uses a mirror.  Link uses an ocarina.  Link uses a boat.  Link shrinks himself.  Link is a wolf.  Link drives a train.  Link is a dance instructor.  Link is a stewardess.  Link is a male prostitute (although that would be interesting enough to get my attention, I think... certainly more so than the train, and it wouldn't be anachronistic).  At first it was fun realizing all these different Links and Zelda.  It made it seem like an obscure legend where there was simply one interpretation of hero that the people telling stuck into these stories.  But most of the stories are the same too!  And of course the progression is the same too.  How many underground ruins can possibly exist in Hyrule?!  Sorry, but this whole thing just killed Zelda for me.  Maybe that sounds melodramatic (and belongs in the Star Trek thread), but a dying idea can only be held up for so long, and I was on board with until this.  It's just one bad idea that completely topples the "gilded age" and lets you finally see what you'd blinded yourself to for so long.  Nintendo needs to do something original with this franchise!  I don't care how many gold discs they churn out, or how they turn Link into a Barbie-esque blank slate where he can be any random job at the turn of a hat.  They just need to scrap it and focus on doing something new with Hyrule and its inhabitants.  Do a new story.  Get a new character.  Do something.

Yeah, I was thinking that too.  The phone didn't bother me because, once again, it was a dream, and I have a plenty high suspension of disbelief.  But then, yeah, I began to get a little suspicious with Majora's Mask where new technology started popping up all over the place.  It was such a great game that I forgave it, but I had my eye on the series now.  What with the pictograph box and the neon in the Great Bay Temple, I was getting worried.  And it's been all downhill from there (in terms of anachronisms), culminating in this sad little thing.
