Oh man, looking through this… this stands to be a major historical achievement!
Oh man, looking through this… this stands to be a major historical achievement!
When it comes to open matte, for me, Hardcore and Scanners readily come to mind. Presumably they’re both on video, but the former is extremely hard to find.
Lovely! Sounds like what I’m trying to pull off at the moment.
Alright. Is anyone here willing to chip in?
I’ve already got one: $3,500. Who’s going to pay that much? Not even the most gullible of Kickstarters will do it.
Anyway, if I can get a loan, and pay the collector to ship the film to Britain, I can get someone to scan the film on my behalf. Then I sell the film off, reclaim my losses and pay my loan back. What could go wrong?! All I need is that someone to scan the film, and somewhere to store it in the meantime.
Actually, depending from where the film is sold you’d be better off looking for someone to hold it for you in its country of origin, and then look for the closet affordable scanner in the nearest region to the location of the film.
Well is anyone around here willing to do that on my behalf?
I wish I was making an April Fool’s joke right now. I can’t deliver! 😦 I’ve been informed that my bank will not grant me a loan since I don’t have a source of income. And where in the hell am I supposed to find 200 people who care and trust me enough to punt $10?! And that’s just for one film! I’d have to get a scanner and all sorts of stuff to do the restoration! No, this is the end of the line for me. Anyone else want to take over, be my guest. I’ll just have to go back to my regraded and regrained version.
I’m going to need outside help if I’m going to acquire a 35mm film for scanning. Is there anyone around here I can send the film over to scan?
I used to do that as well, when I started out. You sort of adjust to it though.

That one Cartoon Network series comes to mind, “Whatever Happened to Robot Jones?”. It’s been re-aired a couple of times but never got onto DVD. Nor did it get onto video, for that matter… does it count?
You know something? You may be right. Perhaps I can draw out a loan at the bank and get the SW print, then get someone to scan it on my behalf. How much is that one, by the way?
Getting a copy of Snow White would be a massive help to me. Too bad I don’t have either the money or equipment to handle it!
In that case, I’d be inclined to believe that DVD is exclusive to the BD release.
I know! It’s taken me like 20 years to learn that someone made an official version! Not that I ever looked to begin with, but…
Yyyyyyabba-Dabba-Doo!
Definitely. I’ve gotten so annoyed with the aforementioned hipsters. They’ve always been there, but now with TFA, they feel compelled to rally behind the PT and whine about how we “triggered” Lucas.
…we triggered him into giving up Star Wars? I always thought the Disneys paid him to take it off his hands… now I’m really confused!
What? WHAT?! STAR WARS PORN!? WHAT THE F*CK!?
I’ve bought a copy of The Sword in the Stone on DVD; a 2014 pressing, apparently. Thankfully the DVD transfer has not been touched; I have reason to believe this is a reprint of the 2008 DVD. This is just the R2 one though - can anyone clarify if it’s the same for R1 as well?

Why would they use anything other than the gold coin?
Now, that is a pretty awesome cover - only the movie’s premise doesn’t call for it. We should be seeing more of a sort of sex rampage. Like the Arrow cover, that was pretty much spot on.
Also, at what point did Malcolm McDowell’s Caligula carry a sword? Maybe it was in a deleted scene or something, I dunno.
Looking at the Italian bootleg VHS clip from earlier, I’d guess so. In fact yes, this is a discussion we’ve had before.
Some scenes seem a little off on my Snow White BD. Are they supposed to exhibit this sort of double-line phenomenon? Or is it an error in the restoration?
I think we’d have to go deep into Skywalker Ranch for that one.
What do you make of this - I’ve found a job lot of frames from a print I can buy. Would anyone here be able to tell me if these colours are accurate?
But why bother adding in a bit that wasn’t in the original version anyway?
Well, I did a little research. Apparently, they found old footage (which was NOT in the theatrical version) which they wanted to reinsert into the film - but the audio on that obscure footage had been damaged. They felt they had to redub those voice overs. Fine. But then, in the process, they re-dubbed the entire film, even the parts that had not been damaged! What, are they CRAZY?!?
