Team Negative1 - The Empire Strikes Back 1980 - 35mm Theatrical Version (Released)
Time

Here's how I look at this... since the raw film is such a visceral experience for those of us who actually remember seeing it this way first run, I think viewing the film exactly like this but with Hairy Hen's (purist) beefed up soundtrack would be absolutely amazing.  The one thing that was incredible back then in a specially equipped theater (like the Dome) was the sound.  I don't even care if you scrub up the negative but the sound has to be stellar.  Just my opinion.  It's retro visually but explosive audibly and that makes for a fantastic combination.  This is really great stuff any way you look at it.

Just for people who may not know, the Cinerama Dome has been around a long, long time...

wow, so cool to see this... can't remember Empire looking so much like film since seeing it at the Cinerama Dome back in 1980.  The Dome still stands to this day, even though they built a brand new complex around it called Arclight Cinemas.  They didn't touch the Dome itself.  Waited in line for hours back then.  That's just the way it was.  But what a glorious experience.  I saw the film many more times during re-release in 1981.  Here's the trailer that ran back then...

Escape From New York [spoRv] *BD-25 RELEASED*
Time

It's a brief moment of pixelation that seems inherent to the source.  Not a big deal but it is there for all of us.  This project still remains the best overall presentation of the film.  After examining the official US blu-ray again, it's quite clear that they just mastered it too dark.  Andrea's use of the HDNet broadcast was the best move.  By the way, Robert Rodriguez is using the same master for his many screenings of the film on his El Rey Network.  He also hosted an hour long interview with John Carpenter in "The Director's Chair" and it was amazing.  Highly recommended if you have El Rey Network... in HD on most systems, too.

Info: Any Godzilla fans out there?
Time

Space, they did not show the film in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio.  During the opening credits it was 4:3 and the rest of the film was 1.85 (standard definition).  I do not believe that EPIX presents Godzilla movies in HD.  The sound was strong and it was the English dub from the late '70s and early '80s they used for television broadcasts when I was a kid.  Here's how it looked...

Idea & Info: 'The Golden Voyage of Sinbad' - laserdisc preservation
Time

Turner Classic Movies just broadcast the film not long ago as a double feature with Eye of the Tiger.  I wonder if they have an older master, which is usually the case with TCM.  That scene is probably intact in its original form.  I didn't dvr it though so I can't check to compare theirs against the other releases.  Generally speaking, the image on TCM HD did look damn good.

The Terminator (1984) - Original Theatrical Mono Preservation (Released)
Time

At least they provided the original mono audio in a DTS 2.0 track on the JAWS Blu-ray.  It sounds great.  But you're absolutely right.  They left great parts of the soundtrack out of both the JAWS 5.1 and 7.1 mixes, namely the examples in that YT clip... replaced with weaker and more generic sound effects.  The JAWS mono audio was always a terrific mix.  I'm no fan of the new mixes at all.
