Some new NEWS on Prometheus 2

Director Ridley Scott has recently revealed the title of Prometheus 2 to be Alien: Paradise Lost, and he now asserts that the film will also feature a connection to the Alien franchise’s central character.

Speaking in an interview to promote The Martian, Scott surprised fans this week by announcing that Prometheus 2 will officially be titled Alien: Paradise Lost. The director also noted that his plans call for several sequels, which will eventually tie the stories of Alien and Prometheus directly together. During the interview with HeyUGuys, Scott said that the Prometheus story would be “heading back to why and how and when the beast was invented,” eventually connecting with the original Alien.

In an interview with Empire conducted a day later, Scott further elaborated on the connections between the two franchises, revealing to fans that they may not have to wait until Prometheus 3 or 4 to see a direct relationship between the two worlds.

“In a way it is Prometheus 2. It’s exactly the same story. But it was always in the works to be called that [Alien: Paradise Lost]. Is Prometheus actually taking us off course from where I’m going, which is actually backing into the first Alien… I’ve even got connections with Ripley [in this], but I’m not telling you what.”

As Entertainment Weekly notes, that statement somewhat contradicts what Scott previously said about Prometheus 2, as he suggested larger connections to Alien wouldn’t appear until later films in the series. For that reason, as well as the time frame in the series in which Paradise Lost is set to take place, fans have speculated that connections to Ripley will be somewhat minimal at best, likely setting up her appearance in the other arm of the newly resurgent Alien universe.

Scott is still working as a producer on Neill Blomkamp’s as-yet-untitled Alien 5. According to Screenrant, Alien 5 features an exceedingly revealing title, which Scott helped to fashion. The title is being kept a secret currently, but it is believed that Alien 5 will feature the return of Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley. Michael Biehn’s Cpl. Dwayne Hicks (from Aliens) may also reappear in Alien 5, to much excitement from fans.

Alien: Paradise Lost is set to go into production early next year, to be followed by Alien 5 at an undisclosed point in the near future.

Jack Larson, who played Superman's pal Jimmy Olsen in original TV series, dies

Jack Larson, who played photographer Jimmy Olsen on the 1950s US television series Adventures of Superman, has died at the age of 87.

After abandoning acting out of frustration in the early 1960s, Larson went on to be a playwright, lyricist and movie producer.

But he made his most lasting impression as television's Jimmy Olsen, the enthusiastic young reporter in the bow tie at the Daily Planet newspaper, where he worked with Clark Kent, Superman's alter ego, and Lois Lane in the fictional city of Metropolis.

Larson appeared in 101 episodes of the beloved show during its run from 1952 through 1958.

His Jimmy Olsen was eager and full of good intentions and ":gee-whillickers" naivete, but also a bit of a stumblebum who provided the show's comic relief.

The actor described Olsen as "a bit dim" since he never figured out that Clark Kent was also the crime-fighting caped superhero, Superman.

Larson thought Superman would be short-lived and little noticed. He was stunned to realize it was an instant hit and he was a celebrity - a typecast one.

His Jimmy Olsen became such a popular figure that his bow tie would one day be part of a Smithsonian display.

"Everywhere I go, I get the warmest feelings from people about Jimmy," he told the Times.

"They love him and I grew to feel that I could never have done anything more special than be Jimmy Olsen."

He even got to be Jimmy again in his later years, playing an elderly Olsen in the television show Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman in 1996 and had a cameo in the 2006 film Superman Returns, wearing a bow tie.

Larson died on Sunday at his home in Los Angeles' Brentwood neighborhood. An autopsy is pending.\

General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread
Time

The Death Valley N.P. filming locations for Star Wars and Return of the Jedi are only about an hour and a half away from my house. Now that the weather is cooling down, I was thinking about taking a drive out there in a few weeks. Have any of you been to these locations? I'll be sure to post photos from my expedition when completed.

This webpage below is helping me map out my SW adventure.

'Star Trek: Voyager' actress accused of indecent exposure, Tennessee TV station reports

A former actress in the "Star Trek" franchise was arrested this month in Tennessee, accused of indecent exposure in the presence of a neighbor's minor children, Knoxville TV station WATE reports.

The Roane County Sheriff's Office website confirmed that Jennifer Lien, who played the alien medical assistant Kes for the first three seasons of "Star Trek: Voyager," was booked with indecent exposure on Sept. 3. The bond for Lien, who lives in Harriman, Tenn., was set at $2,500, the records show.

According to the report, Lien left her front door open and was naked under a blanket on her couch when sheriff's deputies arrived with a warrant for her arrest, alleging an earlier incident of indecent exposure to a neighbor's children outside her home. The report said Lien refused to get dressed or walk to the patrol car, and had to be carried by deputies.

I'm sure that sheriff's deputies would have rather it had been her replacement on "Voyager".

John Williams Film Scores

WHO ELSE IS LOOKING FORWARD TO JW'S SCORE TO TFA?

ME! I just hope that they release a complete version of the score around the same time the home video versions are released. I was always kind of upset that we never got expanded editions of Ep. II and III.

So Dave, what are your thoughts about Williams not scoring "Rouge One" or the other non-episodic films? In a way, I wish they would just have someone re-arrange existing Williams' SW themes in the same way the producers of Superman II,III and IV had done when Williams could not (would not) return.

I heard that the end of the film is Rey bringing Luke his lightsaber on this island in Ireland where he is in exile/hiding/meditating/whatever.

There's a rumor that Luke is Rey's father and that he left her on Jakku for her protection. He should know that desert planets aren't safe havens. ;-)

Luke must have a thing for tall women.

What if the rumors are false, and Luke is not alone? I'm thinking about that new female lead they are casting for Episode IIX.
