George Clayton Johnson, Writer of First ‘Star Trek’ Episode, Dies at 86
He was an American science fiction writer, most famous for co-writing the novel Logan’s Run with William F. Nolan, the basis for the hit MGM 1976 film. He was also known for his television scripts for The Twilight Zone, and the first telecast episode of Star Trek, entitled “The Man Trap”.

Thanks and same to you.

This is more like it! It stands apart from the OT, but I feel in the ways that it should. It’s far above the PT in all respects, but gets some negative points for lack of originality. 750/1000

He could have just said…

"Before Star Wars, the films that were box-office hits were The Godfather,
Taxi Driver, Bonnie and Clyde and The French Connection – gritty, amoral art movies.
Then suddenly the onus switched over to spectacle and everything changed.
Now, I don’t know if that is a good thing. Obviously I’m very much
a self-confessed fan of science-fiction and genre cinema. But part of me
looks at society as it is now and just thinks we’ve been infantilised
by our own taste. Now we’re essentially all consuming very childish
things – comic books, superheroes… Adults are watching this
stuff, and taking it seriously.
It is a kind of dumbing down in a way. Because it's taking our focus
away from real-world issues. Films used to be about challenging,
emotional journeys or moral questions that might make you walk away
and re-evaluate how you felt about… whatever.
Now we're walking out of the cinema really not thinking about anything,
other than the fact that the Hulk just had a fight with a robot.
But I sometimes feel like I miss grown-up things.
And I honestly thought the other day that I’m gonna retire from geekdom.
I’ve become the poster child for that generation,
and it’s not necessarily something I particularly want to be.
I’d quite like to go off and do some serious acting."
OK, this sounds more promising : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2f4aAwa5wdg
Best quote from the comments section is “I’m getting a Amazing Spider-Man 2 feeling about this film already”

This poster was very popular in my late teens, and I never saw what the big deal was.

I also question why Perry felt the need to create Dash Rendar. He’s nothing but a more cocky Han Solo, which just strikes me as completely unnecessary. Just because Han isn’t around doesn’t mean he needs to be around.
I think that “Dash Rendar” was mostly created and intended to be the central protagonist for use in the then planed continuing series of video games, and comic books based around that novel. A character that was not bound to the continuity of the films. That entire “Shadows” project was interesting and at the time of it’s release I collected the novel, PC game, book on tape, the book’s “Soundtrack”, the trading cards, and some of the action figures. There was also this, I found it a very interesting read
Something is bothering me. How can Rey undertstand BB8’s bleeps? I can’t recall Luke being able to interpret R2, pretty sure C3PO used to interpret?
I thought Luke could understand R2D2 by the second movie.
A bit of politics…yes indeed :

Somehow he fits into “Star Wars” nicely.
