Just finished watching "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", the movie, on YouTube. Well, I skipped many, many parts, the whole thing is like a huge collection of music videos. Needless to say, I can see why it's rarely mentioned. It's an odd film, some of the covers are good but the rest really don't work for me; most interesting parts of this movie, for me, were George Burns (yes, even the "Fixing a Hole" cover), Earth Wind & Fire, and Billy Preston.

Speaking of Billy Preston, here's something that I noticed, as a Star Wars fan: when he's shooting lasers out of his hands, the sound is unmistakably that of a lightsaber being turned on:

and earlier in the film, towards the beginning, I've heard the sound of Luke's speeder a couple of times:

the same sound is used with the machinery in Mr Mustard's van, along with a couple of sounds from the Millennium Falcon

what in blue blazes??

The tie in here would most likely be RSO records (Robert Stigwood Organisation). The producers of the SPLHCB film, and also the distributor of the Soundtracks to Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, and the Re-issues of Star Wars and Story of Star Wars.

 "The Exorcist III"

Why do you like the third installment more than the original classic?

Good question.

1) The way it is directed first off. I just like the way the story is told visually. The way some of the shots mixed with the soundtrack had much more of an horror impact on me then the possessed little girl did.

2) Gorge C. Scott and Brad Dourif at their best!

3) IMHO, III contains of of the scariest moments in motion picture history. And, I'm not going to spoil it for the people who have not yet seen the film.

4) The more psychological angle of the story.

5) The writing and acting of a great dead pan support cast.

6) Fabio is in it.

Even with it's flaws, it's a movie I can re-watch at almost any time. Whereas with the first Exorcist, I would need to be in a certain type of mood to sit through all of it. The first film is a good movie, but for my tastes, it tends to lag at points. I'm also not as fond of the cast in that one. Mostly the players in the supporting roles.

You know what? That's a great idea!

GO FOR IT!

I wanted to do it for years... I'm starting with a Documentary Filmmaking Certificate program.

Now on the topic, I will have to add the original "Dirty Harry" to my list.

Also "Broadway Danny Rose", "The Exorcist III", "Superman: The Movie" and "A Christmas Story".

Here is yet another twist.

I personally prefer to experience the Hitchhiker's saga via the text version of the radio series scripts (with footnotes). I enjoy the story and humor in this fashion much more then if I listen to the BBC radio series itself. But I must admit, that I would not enjoy the scripts as much if I had not become familiar with the voices of the actors beforehand.

The T.V. series 2nd, The LP records 3rd (far too abridged for my taste)

The first 3 novels I only skim over now and again. But, I do quite enjoy the abridged audio book of Life, The Universe, and Everything  read by Stephen Moore (The voice of Marvin in the Radio and T.V. show, and also the LP record version).

Have not seen the film, and have no wish to.

Why is it that I always return to The Ipcress File score? It's essentially the same theme over and over-yet brilliantly moody.

They had this playing last week at my local record shop. They had the original vinyl disk on. Great high fidelity sound. I've always loved Barry's Thunderball score, and The Ipcress File has a very similar feel and mood. As soon as I can afford a copy, I plan to add The Ipcress File to my collection.
