Info Wanted: Star Trek TOS Bloopers - where are they now?

Well, here are my preservation files, used for the video I uploaded on YouTube some time ago and now no longer available. They are all sourced from various VHS (I have several, original and copies), and for each one I tried to select the best source, sometimes mixing differnt parts coming from different sources. I also did some video adjustment and color crrection but the final result is still bad.

By the way: I don’t seem to be able to access FanFiltration video (https://youtu.be/V5g5GoRSfMc), YouTube says it’s private.

Impressive collection! Sorry YouTube flagged my video and gave me a strike to boot. I think it’s the use of the Star Trek theme music that gets it in trouble.

I never liked how the interlacing turned out on this edit and I never got around to making an upgrade. My original copy has been lost to time.

Didn’t I upload a copy of your original to the spleen?

You could have, I’ve lost my account info over there.

If you’d like, I can send you an invitation.

That would be great, thanks!

I took a look at two of the (grey market) Star Trek Blooper VHS tapes I had in storage here at my place.

This tape (Video Dimensions 1978) has 3 reels:
Reel #1 First half of first season (Dark in places but better sharpness and color then the YOHO tape)
Reel #2 Second half of first season (Includes Happy Birthday segment)
Reel #3 Second Season (Better focus then the YOHO, NOTE: Missing Eddy Milkis joke and small part of the main titles segment before Shatner’s credit)

This tape (YOHO VIDEO 1997) has 2 reels:
Reel #1 First half of first season (Dark, blurry, film runs same speed as Dimensions version)
Reel #3 Second Season (Dark, blurry, Includes Eddy Milkis joke and full titles segment, film runs slower then the Dimensions version)

Each tape seems to have a separate dubbing master source that is derived from the same original 16mm prints of the bloopers. For basic quality, Video Dimensions is the winner between these two titles. But because of that small missing part of the titles sequence in the second season reel on the Dimensions tape, you still need the YOHO for completeness. You could just edit the missing bit from the YOHO video into the Dimensions’ one.

I haven’t watched Enterprise, so I don’t know what that show’s MU episodes are like, but I have seen most of DS9’s and I disliked almost all of them. The first one was alright, but I quickly grew bored with them; neither the DS9-era Mirror Universe nor its inhabitants were all that interesting.

I feel this is the only worthy sequel to Mirror, Mirror. Pity no one thought to adapt it to the screen.

I was collecting the Trek DC comics during that time and that was a good story!

According to Starlog magazine, the old rumor was one cast member didn’t appreciate those being shown to the public. Which might be why they never aired on any of those blooper tv specials of the 80’s and 90’s.

And that cast member was Mr. Nimoy! That’s what the Great Bird told us back in 1983. He was NOT showing the reels at conventions at that time. VHS was becoming a thing at that time and the dealers room was filling up with bootleg VHS tapes. Roddenberry did not want to show the reels in one room for free and then have people give their money to a 3rd party for a personal copy in another room.

FanFiltration just posted a link to this in the Off topic Trek thread. It’s a weird hodgepodge of sources. Some cropped, some that looks like it was shot off a screen without a tripod.

One bit I’ve wondered about for years, what episode is the set seen at 11:42 from? I’ve never been able to identify it. Is it even from Trek at all?

I’ve seen just a couple of random bits, but it looks like it’s a merge of the 3 circulating blooper reels, the Billy Blackburn 8mm footage (from the official Blu-rays) and the silent trims, which were previously shared on youtube. So nothing new, but it’s great to see it all together in one video.

Yes, it’s just a compilation of the available YouTube stuff using some tricks to compensate for the 240p,480p and silent sources. I cut up and re-ordered the Blackburn video and tried to find matching music. I know for sure there are clips missing. The Roddenberry reels had outtakes from The Enterprise Indecent for sure, and I seem to remember scenes from Plato’s Stepchildren.

Back in the early 80’s I had the VHS that was sold at the conventions. At that time I thought I had the complete 3 reels, but I’ve been recently informed that there was an out-take on one of Roddenberry’s reels of Frank Gorshin turning into The Riddler on the transporter pad! I still have not been able to confirm the existence or non-existence of this clip.

Have any of you heard the Star Trek Blooper LP? I just ordered one off line and I am looking forward to hearing what it is. I used to love finding such titles in obscure record stores and conventions, but those days are long passed.
