If you need to B*tch about something... this is the place
Time

Going back to the sex stuff, I got a positive diagnosis for autism spectrum disorder level 2 in June, which finally explains why I also have such a hard time finding a romantic relationship, let alone having sex. Of course, I’m interested in trying it out because it’s great for stimming, even though there’s the risk of sensory overload due to my mind being the way it is.

I can’t speak for everyone for obvious reasons. Even though I have a strong attraction to women with colored hair (pink, purple, blue, etc.) for some reason, I don’t like the idea of loveless sex of the kind Spartacus described either. I think the correct terminology for people like this is demisexual, although I’m not 100 percent on that.

Back for more! Here we are with deleted scene 5 and the first clip to get the upscale treatment!

https://vimeo.com/848634131

Next, we have deleted scene 6! This is the most important addition to the film, and also the hardest deleted scene I’ve worked on. I added three music tracks (Yes, you heard that right), and a bunch of sound effects too.

Pains me to do this, but after talking with Zarius over on fanedit.org, I have decided to cut out the singular deleted scene from the abandoned editor’s cut. He provided a good argument against it and felt that it wasn’t as necessary as I hoped it would be. I will be updating the changes list, and the scene where Alfred receives the news about Stickley’s death is gonna be left as-is.

On a positive note, Bobson Dugnutt has loaned me his HD upscales of the deleted scenes. I will be re-uploading the (surviving) deleted scenes and throwing in their updated versions when I have the time.

Still waiting on Bobson Dugnutt to PM me his deleted scene upscales. For now, here’s some more music and SFX tests on my deleted scenes so far.

This first one is the only deleted scene that came from the abandoned editor’s cut. I suspect that the news announcer is ThatGuyWhoEdits himself, and this scene was created by him. I liked it enough, and I think setting up the gang for later makes for a nice bit of foreshadowing. This is the only deleted scene in 1080p. However, It’s also compressed due to the source. I’ve left this one untouched for now, but I suspect it needs work.

This next scene has been left untouched, save for Bruce Wayne’s kick at the end. There might be some issues, but I think it works.

Why do you think “The Pull of Regret” fits this scene?

Three reasons:

  1. It’s quieter than most of what’s on the soundtrack, making it easier to hear the dialogue.

  2. The shift in tone places more emphasis on this moment, giving it more importance to Batman’s character arc.

  3. It makes the action sequence as a whole less cartoonish and noisy, and gives it a more serious tone which is what this film needs.

And for those who are wondering, yes, the deleted scenes I have are in SD 480p. I don’t have the money or the storage space on my PC for Topaz. If you would like to upscale them, send me a PM, and I’ll be happy to send you the scenes. I’d appreciate it.

Not bad. I would suggest lowering the volume of the thunder cracks, and muffling them to an extent, so we can hear the dialogue as clearly as possible. Also, add some electricity crackling and lamp creaking SFX.

On another note, I like the choice of music you went with!

Thanks! Sound effects are a much trickier issue for me. I’ll get to work on seeing what I can do about it.

Batman Forever: The Eyepainter Fanedit (Complete)
Time

After some discussion with my pals on fanedit.org, I’ve decided to take on Joel Schumacher’s 1995 guilty pleasure, Batman Forever.

As the sentence above suggests, I enjoy Batman Forever, but not because it’s good. So-bad-it’s-good is the best description I have for it. But for obvious reasons, I’ve wanted to see a version of the film that is decent at least. I’ve watched a few edits of Batman Forever over my time in fanediting, including the acclaimed Red Book Edition. However, my favorite edit of the film was by a faneditor named ThatGuyWhoEdits. I was given the honor to review it for any issues, and it was my favorite take on this troubled film to date. While it did have some flaws, the many strengths far outweighed them, and actually made the film… Watchable.

But alas, it was never released. I’m still not 100 percent on what happened, but my good friend ArtisDead said that ThatGuyWhoEdits got a harsh response from someone, and he ghosted and bailed on the project. The edit was never released, and I was left with a highly compressed must-see.

This is what brings me to the present. I had a lot of faith in The Editor’s Cut and wanted to give it the justice it deserves. After talking with ArtisDead and Bobson Dugnutt, I’ve decided to make my own fanedit of Batman Forever, using the abandoned Editor’s Cut as a main inspiration. I have changed a few things (and you can find what’s different in the changes list), but for the most part, this edit is a close approximation to The Editor’s Cut, and one that I hope does both ThatGuyWhoEdits and this movie proud.

In addition to the edits I’ve made, I also decided to compete with the color grading of the Red Book Edition by throwing in my own style. I’ve desaturated the reds, greens, and blues to black and white. Thus, only the yellow, cyan, and magenta colors remain in full color. This gives the film more of a Frank Miller vibe, and in a lot of ways, the color palette reminds me of The Dark Knight Returns. It also gives the film a darker tone that is desperately needed. I have thrown together four color grading examples below to give you an idea of what I’ve got so far:

https://youtu.be/a5nWM4EkRk4
https://youtu.be/m7XXCoMx070
https://youtu.be/B7bjPuV23xY

However, some scenes needed reds at times, mostly for the red book scenes and the Robin scenes. So I slightly resaturated the reds in those moments. This example is one Robin moment (My favorite, by the way). I didn’t like Robin’s helmet being black-and-white during this scene, which is why the resaturation was needed for this to work.

https://youtu.be/6zLmaaL6vZs

Deleted Scenes

One thing I should note is that the deleted scenes I have are in the dreaded SD 480p, and they’re in need of an upscale. They also lack music and sound effects. This edit will be a first for me in the sound effects department, since I’ve never added in SFX to an edit before. I will be uploading the deleted scenes of my edit onto this thread in the future for sound editing purposes and to get some feedback on what I’ve done to them. Also, if any of you have Topaz, I will be happy to send you my Deleted Scenes file for upscaling.

Otherwise, I think that’s everything for now. The changes list is down below.

Test went well! I think the changes list is officially complete! Next thing I’m gonna do is work on the subtitles and a text-only commentary. Wraith suggested going for text-only instead of audio to me, and I think I’ll take his advice! Audio commentaries are tedious for me (not to mention slow due to my disinterest in recording audio), so I might as well go for text instead. Hopefully, writing text is faster than recording my voice.

Something bad has happened to me recently, and I wanted to bitch about it, because I think that it’s not even my fault.

Basically, there’s a girl I started talking to a few months ago. I have met her online. As soon as we met, we immediately connected, and for a couple of months we texted each other every day and talked every day. We were really interested in each other. This girl comes from Turkey, while I come from Italy. But she told me that she would have moved to Italy next year with her family, because they wanted to leave Turkey and start to live in Italy. We even planned to meet once she came to live in Italy.

However, a couple of months ago she told me that she had to take some exams at university, as she studies medicine. Now, I’m a quite person who always tries to be kind. I don’t like to argue with other people if it’s not necessary. I’m a person who likes to leave their space to others, therefore, I thought that it would have been best not to text at all until the exams were finished. And so I did. I didn’t text her until her exams were finished. When her exams were finished, she texted me again, and she was not angry about the fact that I didn’t text her for the whole time. In fact, she studied a lot and she actually never had time to be online anyway, so she was not angry with me about that. Since she was not angry about that, I started to think that acting this way would have been better. That is, texting her exclusively when I knew that she was free, while trying to leave her alone when I knew that she was busy. This way - I thought - I wouldn’t have disturbed her when she was busy, and I would have done a good thing by giving her some personal space when she was doing something else.

After she finished her exams, we started to talk again for a couple of weeks. But after a couple of weeks she told me that she was going to visit her grandparents and her cousins, who live in Iraq. Since she would have been temporarily in another country and would have been with her family often, I thought it would have been best not to text her at all, so as to allow her to have free time with her family and give her some space. I thought it would have been best to wait until she returned from Iraq, and start to talk with her again exclusively after she returned. However, apparently she didn’t even bothered to tell me that she returned to Turkey in the first place. And since I didn’t know that she was back at home, then I didn’t know that she was available to talk again. Since I didn’t know that, I obviously didn’t text her for another month, being completely unaware of the fact that she was back. And during this month, she didn’t even remotely thought of texting me once, not even to say “Hi”, or something.

Giving that I didn’t text her (despite the fact she was back), she started to think that I don’t care about her anymore. Now she started to hate me, and told me that it was a mistake to be interested in me. She’s telling me that I’m a horrible person, that I don’t give a shit about her, and that she doesn’t want to talk with me anymore. But… Why? I mean, I was in good faith. She’s the one who didn’t even bother to tell me that she was back, so it’s not my fault if I didn’t text her. I simply didn’t know that she was available to talk again. I always tried to be super-kind, cute, available, mature, and not clingy. And despite this, now I’m forced to hear that I’m a horrible person who doesn’t give a shit about people and doesn’t know how to treat a girl.

I just hate this whole situation.

There’s nothing worse than a romantic partner who expects you to read her mind. Sorry about what happened there. I hope you find someone who isn’t gonna treat you that way.

Just when I thought the list was done, I find four more things to change.

Let’s cut to the chase. The first one is small, but it works. I moved Abigail Craven’s “I never should have used him” scene. In the original, Fester changed his mind, brought out the props to Wednesday and Pugsley, and then we cut to Mrs. Craven wondering where her son went. This may have worked theatrically, but because I shortened so much of the film, it made more sense to throw a pause before Fester gives the children their props. So now, Craven’s scene comes first, then Fester giving the kids the props. To do otherwise made Fester’s change feel too sudden. We go from him telling the kids, “go away.” to “I’ve changed my mind.” within the span of only a couple scenes, and it makes his change seem more random than it needs to be.

Change #2 is also a different scene placement. This one is more important than the last. In The Addams Family, Gomez went into an emotional conversation with Fester on his belonging to the family. The scene itself was great as is. But placing it before the children’s play sequence wasn’t the best spot for the scene. I decided to move this conversation to the end of the night, after Fester tucks Wednesday in to bed. Climaxing the night of the school play with Fester and Gomez’s conversation is a great way to conclude that sequence, and the emotional resonance is stronger.

For change #3, I have to talk about the transition from the first movie to the second. One criticism I hear about fanmixes are that they can feel like two movies thrown together, and that’s also been a challenge for this fanmix. The beginning of the Addams Family Values section is vulnerable to this problem due to the shift from Fester to Pubert. I moved the “Strange Men and the Women Who Avoid Them” reading to an earlier point. Even after that, the birth of Pubert still felt like the simplicity of the edit was being taken away after the climax of the previous film. So, I moved the reading all the way to the beginning of the Values section. Right after Fester howls at the moon. This way, the edit establishes that while Fester is free from Dr. Pinderschloss and Tully, his character arc is still incomplete. The viewer has an excuse to keep watching after the Addams Family half is over. Of course, the next few smattering of scenes are going to leave you wondering how all of this stuff about Pubert is gonna tie in to Uncle Fester.

Which leads me to change #4, and it’s another heartbreaking removal. I’ve made a lot of those with this one. I deleted the “he has my father’s eyes” scene. Why? It has to do with a lot of things. The first movie was Uncle Fester’s film from start to finish, and because Fester was set up so much, it carried into the Addams Family Values section of the film too. The payoff of Values didn’t work, because it felt like we were setup with Fester only to payoff with Fester, Wednesday, and Pubert. This gave it a similar issue to Full Metal Jacket where the first half of the movie is better than the second. In order to improve the payoff, I placed all the focus on Uncle Fester for the Addams Family Values half instead. Which brings us back to the deletion of change #4. After Pubert is born, the viewer is bound to ask why we’re moving away from Fester after following him for the last 80 minutes. It became clear that Debbie needed to be introduced ASAP so that the reason for all this talk about the baby is answered, and the story doesn’t lose track. This is also why I cut out things like the guillotine, the stuff about one of the kids having to die, and the previous nannies. We needed to meet Debbie sooner rather than later.

That’s all for now. Hopefully, these are the “final” final changes. I’ll update the changes list soon.

Just tested the soundtrack I got off eBay, and I’m happy to say it’s in fantastic condition! The disc played perfectly, and the data surface looks like it’s almost never been played (even though I don’t rely on that, since it’s common to find a disc that’s been refurbished by unreliable scratch removers). Plus, of the 13 tracks, I found 7 that could work as replacements for the end credits music. I may not even need to buy the Addams Family Values soundtrack because I have plenty to work with on this one.

While I’m still testing out which cuts I want to make, I decided to do some more work on the color grade. There are some instances where I’ve made a few… Differences from the norm. I still have to decide how much of it is worth it or not, but I think this is off to a great start!

One area where I’ve decided to differ from the black, white, and green aesthetic is with the school play scene. I’m not sure how much content I can get away with. However, I think this shot will give the fans a good idea of what I’m doing:

https://github.com/PurpleMetal75/demonstration-images/assets/77859966/978b778b-9c58-4543-80ec-4d79e5542fa0

I’ve decided to try and keep the blood red (or at least, as red as I can make it) for two reasons. 1. The blood is harder to see with my current aesthetic, and 2. The scene is so much funnier if the blood looks red. I have to confess, though, that getting the blood to look right has been insanely hard. Even now, I’m still not sure if it looks right. The hardest areas are Wednesday’s arm, where the blood gushing out of it still looks kind of pixellated. I’m not sure how to fix it right now, and I’m not sure how to improve it. I’d show it, but I want to make sure my post isn’t too inappropriate for the forum, so if you want to see the full scene and give me some feedback on how to improve the blood effects, send me a PM.

Another thing I’ve altered on the color grading is Debbie’s mansion.

https://github.com/PurpleMetal75/demonstration-images/assets/77859966/6665fc7d-967c-40a2-a727-3ec8570524ef
https://github.com/PurpleMetal75/demonstration-images/assets/77859966/a4274dff-973a-4e50-b12d-d08417558efa

Much like the blood, I decided to tint Debbie’s mansion pink (or as close as I can get to pink. Damn computers) for more comedic effect, especially Morticia’s “Pastels?” line. It also makes for a good contrast between the pale green of the Addams mansion and the pretty pink of Debbie’s. I haven’t decided if this is the best way to handle Debbie’s mansion (and if someone wants to offer up another alternative, I’d be happy to hear it), but I think this is a good start for now.

Now that I’m an approved faneditor, I feel like now is a perfect time to start branching out and doing more than just two edits. This will count as my first official fanmix. The mix in question, cara mia? 1991’s The Addams Family, and it’s 1993 sequel, Addams Family Values.

I enjoy both movies (With Values being the rare sequel that’s better than the first), and I thought it would be interesting to see what would happen if you put the two together. I’ve kept the focus on Uncle Fester’s character arc from both movies, because I think that’s the best approach to stitching these two films. However, I had to make some sacrifices (the Thanksgiving play from Values is one of them, I’m saddened to say) and shorten down the runtime in order for it to work (194 minutes is overkill). This edit is not designed to be a compilation of highlights from the two films. It’s intended to be its own thing.

Also, I decided to play around with the color grading and change things from full color to black-and-white-and-frankenstein-green, giving homage to the original 1960s TV show. There are a few exceptions (And I’ve recently uploaded some of those exceptions in my own gallery which you can find in the URL below:

https://forums.fanedit.org/media/albums/addams-family-chronicles-color-grading-stills.234/

However, for the majority of the film, here’s a test I’ve uploaded to give you an idea of the color grading I’m planning to do:

https://youtu.be/c3XNBS3n3bw

Hopefully, that should be enough to keep your curiosity “undead” while I work on it. However, I have some issues and obstacles to face with this edit. The biggest one is… The credits. Right now, the opening credits are from The Addams Family, while the end credits are from Addams Family Values. So the cast list is inconsistent. I also hate the idea of changing the opening credits due to the lettering of the late Pablo Ferro. His style of lettering is untouchable, and I fear there is no way to replicate it due to its hand-drawn nature. However, if someone has a suggestion on how the opening credits can be customized, I would love to know about it. I think I’ve taken care of the end credits, though, so that’s good.

Here’s my official changes list. I may go back and alter something if I find it, but I think this might be the final list until further notice. As there are no deleted scenes on either of my blu-ray discs, I will not be including any additions (and no, I don’t have The Addams Family with more mamushka, and I don’t see any reason to extend it anyway). No plus sign for this one.
