Open-Eyed Thinking (Exploring Uncomfortable Topics)
Time

Everybody in 1984 wore the same clothes, and that was a Paradise. ;)

Illegal immigrants should be made citizens and should be made to follow the same laws and pay the same taxes we do.

One thing America seems to have suppressed, is a unique culture. We are almost the anti-culture. This is the great melting pot, but no matter how many ingredients go into the pot, we are still blatantly stale. We had culture at one time. Look at America's first 150 years.

I live in Houston, which is probably the most racially and culturally diverse place I've ever been in my life, and even after that, anything Asian or European is Americanized. Sure, you have your China towns, little Italys, and your Polish quarters, but that's separating people who, in my opinion, are American. Hispanic influences have held strong, which is one thing I can say, but other than that.... The state I currently live in is almost and has been it's own Country, yet I can't tell much of a difference in it than any of the other 7 states I've lived in, other than the heat and the wealth. You go from being used to seeing little 1 story houses, to driving past mansions that seem to go on forever.

I digress, and probably haven't made much of a point. I just think we have a lot to learn from the many people that come into our country, and diversity could make our country strong if we went about it in the right way. I do believe English should be enforced in the workplace, but I like experiencing different people's ways.

My weight has fluctuated like crazy over the past 15 years. I've had eating disorders from starving myself to the point that I had a brush with death, to eating like a slob and turning into Jabba The Hutt. My childhood was spent being the smallest boy in every class. All I ever heard was I wasn't eating enough.

I later moved to another state, to a fairly dangerous city. My parents didn't want me going out alone, so I pretty much stayed at home and lived in my room. I had a teacher that was very stressful on me, she absolutely hated me to the point where I was getting sick over the stress of going to school. When you start thinking death could bring you relief from certain individuals, you are in a bad place. To cope with that I ate. Now this story doesn't turn into me being bedridden or so large I couldn't walk, but I became quite chubby in my pre-teens. Then boom, shot up to 235 in my teens.

As I approached turning 19, I got really depressed. I knew this was going to be my last year as a teenager, and instead of being excited for the eventual 21, I wanted to turn back the clock. I wanted to go back to my youth, and do things right. I knew that wasn't possible, so I started trying to at least correct the things that were still going on. I stopped smoking cold turkey, and haven't had a puff in years. I started making efforts to eat better, and eventually became addicted to exercise. I would eat almost nothing, and run myself till I couldn't walk. The weight was melting off, and I was starting to feel good. Then I started getting sick... very sick. I was starving, and my body didn't' have the buffet of fat to feed off of that it once did. I also got introduced to a little condition that would so rule my life: Anxiety. I felt a tightness in my chest, my heart race, and the absolute impending death that was there to claim me. This would go on for a while, and eventually I sought medical help. I was put on medication that stopped the anxiety, but also stopped my ability to care. So a lot of the weight I had lost was starting to come back on. I decided I would try to fight the anxiety myself, so I swore off the pills and haven't had one since. I have now gotten to the point where I can stop an attack before it grows. I started working on the weight loss again, and while I'm not as skinny as I was when I was starving myself, I'm at a nice middle ground. I still aim to lose more weight, but I want to do it right this time.

Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *

What made Boba Fett cool when I was a little kid was what we didn't know about him. It brought a little mystery to the character. It's like Darth Vader before 1999. I'm not saying Boba Fett couldn't be brought back as cool, but I feel the Star Wars universe needs to be expand, not revisit old characters because we can't think of anything new. I want to see new alien worlds with characters and creatures I've never seen before. Let's see some planets that don't look like environments found on earth. You can pay homage to classic Star Wars without copying and pasting every idea and element from the past.

Drew Struzan? No thanks.

If you look at the concepts of posters he's done, and what the final product ended up being, it shows that directors or studios want the same vanilla Struzan. Everybody wants the same Photorealistic collage. Even the people they hire as his copies go with the same formula.

Nobody's asking for stuff like this anymore. When you see his scraps, he'll try something like that, and it will get turned down in favor of the collage look:

Here's people trying to do Struzan's style:

Struzan has sort of been turned into the AC/DC of the art world. If he tried to do anything different, people wouldn't like it at this point. It's probably the reason he's retired.

I am more than a little tired of how needlessly connected this universe is, personally.

This is probably the main reason why I'll never bother with the MCU ever again. I hate the shared universe concept, especially when it's played up.

I've been burnt out on superhero movies for a good while. I hope they resist the temptation to ruin Guardians of the Galaxy by forcing them into the superhero dimension. If GotG has any more sequels, I hope they are standalone films. This whole Marvel universe thing just feels like that damn ABC show Once Upon a Time, which is also Disney.

It's kind of like how I played with action figures as a kid. I'd have Han Solo and Batman doing shit together, which is fun when you are 8, but for a movie, it just feels like those shitty Dependables movies all the action stars are doing.

Let's shove as much of our intellectual properties together as we can to sell more shit. Superheroes are getting whored out like Pokemon.

Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *

I am more curious as to what Max Von Sydow is going to be doing in the film than anything. The man is a legend from the tail end of the golden age. He's part of that Alec Guinness, Richard Harris, and Peter Cushing era. Yes, he's been in some lesser films, but who hasn't? I don't think he's been bad in any of those films.

Christopher Lee was also from that era, but Lucas was directing.

I imagine he'll be some kind of dark character, because his resume makes him well more than qualified to play that role. I am hoping though, that he doesn't. I would like to see him play a good character. It would be tempting to make him an old exiled Jedi, but I hope Abrams eases off the Jedi overkill that plagued the prequels. 20 sabers in a frame was overkill.

Whatever they chose for him to play, I hope they give him the opportunity to spread his wings.

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW

I'm a huge fan of the way the spider was handled as well. I don't see it as a distraction, as you see it after we know that Luke has crashed. If it was drawing attention to itself when we need to be paying attention to something else, I would see it as an issue. It adds to the environment, and makes Dagobah feel even more alien. If you could that same magic to boring old Endor....

I'm a big fan of Struzan, but I would like to see tradition hold sway, and have many posters made. Look at how many different posters the original trilogy got. It's hard for me to pick a favorite, because so many were good. I want to see more Struzan Star Wars work, but I don't want it to be our only option.

Hugh Fleming should get some love. He's a great Star Wars artist.

He does an excellent job capturing the look and soul of the characters, but there is still a heroic look to the work.

Star Wars: Rogue One - * Non Spoiler Discussion Thread *
Time

I think after the prequels, the Jedi thing just stopped being as cool. George pretty much jumped that shark with a rocket boosted set of skis.

I think anything set in the Star Wars universe could be entertaining if done right. Bounty hunters, smugglers, pilots, soldiers, mercs, cantina bartenders, and so on and so forth could make for a hell of an interesting film. Hell, you could do a real gritty film about civilian life during the Imperial takeover and it would be just as interesting.
