Thank you for your offer Ziz but I don't want to trouble you.  I may do as doubleofive recommended, and download the dvd-9 and then use a program to mount the iso.  I might even be able to rip the parts I want right from there.

You could also use DVD Shrink to shrink the DVD-9 down to DVD-5. Then you could burn it and watch it on your TV.

The 2008 '<strong>The Clone Wars</strong>' animated theatrical movie - a general discussion thread

only over the years the star wars fan base has been getting bigger and bigger. until george lucas stops reminding us of star wars and any novels are stopped written and those that already have been r forgotten, only then will star wars die. right now i think it'll be around for awhile whether u like it or not.

This is a kinda sad defence. Are you basically saying that Star Wars is alive because of all the novels and tangential projects going on? Is that all that keeps Star Wars in the minds of its fans? Is Star Wars only popular because of its popularity? If so, then I welcome the "death" of Star Wars.

In the 80s, the public grew tired of Lucas' tagential Star Wars projects (Ewok movies, droid and ewok cartoons). From all outward appearances, Star Wars died. In the early 90s it was reborn as a more serious and mature franchise, all because it had never really died in the hearts of the "true believers" in the first place. Maybe (I hope) the same thing will happen again.

The 2008 '<strong>The Clone Wars</strong>' animated theatrical movie - a general discussion thread
Time

I saw the movie this weekend with my 5-year-old son. I went in with very low expectations. I've reached a point where I feel like Star Wars has moved on from where I am, so I basically have nothing to lose. And of course, if I had hated it, but my son still liked it, well, it's still an evening well spent.

You know what? It wasn't that bad. It was superficial and fun, like a guilty pleasure. I liked the action scenes, and they were actually on a more personal level than what we got in the prequels. And I enjoyed Obi-Wan - he's always a class act. Except for the look of Dooku, the animation style didn't bother me.

I would say that the trailers almost made this look worse than it was. In one trailer, Stinky burps, and Asohka (sp?) says, "My training didn't prepare me for this." That never actually happens that way in the movie.

The next morning when we woke up, my son asked to watch Star Wars. I asked him which one he wanted to watch, and he said "the one where Luke blows up the Death Star." That's my boy.

Don't forget that the PG-13 rating wasn't created until after ROTJ came out.

Not that the OT would have gotten the 13 anyway.

I still think the reason that ANH-SE was censored (two different imperial officers getting blasted in the chest) was to avoid the PG-13 rating. It's the only thing that makes sense.

Hey, did you hear they came out with a DVD for that &quot;Star Wars&quot; movie last year?

LEGO Willow: The Complete Saga isn't out yet (damn Atari and their delays). But you can still get LEGO Willow: Madmartigan's Revenge for the GameCube.

Yeah, we're one step closer to seeing "Jedi Rocks" in hi-def! Woo hoo! ;-)

Ouch. Did you really have to remind me of that?

Star Wars: REBORN - The Complete Saga (* unfinished project *)

I think you misunderstood my attempt at humor. I'm certainly not accusing you of stealing their ideas. I'm saying you should use the prologue (or re-create it). The prologue is awesome, and it would be a shame to not use it in some way.

If you take this over, I know it will have your own "stamp" on it. But I don't think it will be seen as stealing if you decide to use any clips that ID and TJ have already made. After all, they've offered the stuff up for anyone who wants to use it.

Good luck!

InfoDroid and TJdavis, I just checked out your prologue, and I must say it's amazing how you made Episode I not suck. It was actually quite moving.

I realize you are burned out on this (and Star Wars in general) right now. But a small part of me hopes that one day, perhaps years in the future, you will return to finish this project. There are simply too many great ideas.

Star Wars DVD Covers

NOW THAT'S A COOL COVER.

Thanks!

PaulisDead2221 said:

Neat, haven't seen some new covers in awhile.  Although, isn't Star Wars the story of a boy, a girl, and a galaxy?

That line is from the 1976 trailer with the temp soundtrack. I just checked again (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwYOpQOiL5Q), and it is "universe", not "galaxy".

FYI, the cover has been tweaked slightly from yesterday to correct misspellings.

Lol, that's pretty badass.

Thanks!

Though I don't like the line "Unfortunately, the film did not resonate with the majority of audiences...." I can't imagine any company putting that on a product they intend to sell. Cult classic, glowing critical reviews and moderate box-office success would be more than enough. (even if the last part is untrue - hey it's called marketing)

I agree. That would probably never appear on an actual cover. I struggled with that line, but I couldn't come up with a more subtle way to say it. Any suggestions?

"Academey" award winner Mark Hamill gave me a big chuckle (and not for the spelling error).

@$#!+!! I proof-read that text at least 10 times. See, it's impossible to proof-read your own stuff. Fixed. (Do they make a spell checker plugin for Photoshop?)

A reference to George Lucas director of Apocalypse Now would add to the "what if" aspect of it, possibly even winning a best director Academy Award for it. And something about Star Wars being the follow-up to American Graffiti. Name dropping American Graffiti as a bigger hit than Star Wars is pretty interesting.

Yes, but I was pressed for space on the back and had to cut stuff down as it is.

Sorry you didn't exactly ask for suggestions but your work has got my minding ticking. The best laugh I've had all day.

No problem. I'm open to any suggestions.

I'm enjoying imagining a world where Harrison Ford is only some what known for his small films "Witness" and "The Mosquito Coast" and nothing else, Spielberg directed a James Bond film and Mark Hamill is an academy award winner.

I had the same thought about Harrison, but I couldn't really work it in. The only thing I did to suggest this was to put Garrick Hagon in front of him in the commentary description.

skyjedi2005 said:

Not to be a nitpicker but I believe his Name is Garrick Hagon.

@$#!+ again!! Thanks for pointing that out. Fixed.

Alright Erik, I know you did it! I know you found a way to travel trans-dimensionally, and you fetched yourself a copy of this bad boy! You can stop playing like it is just a hypothetical game! Your a genius man! I had never thought of going through the trouble of inventing such a thing. It is so obvious now, for every way something happens there are an infinite number of ways it didn't happen, it stands to reason that there would be countless universes in which Star Wars totally blew. I know it is against forum rules to break trans-dimensional copyright laws by mailing out some DVD-Rs of this thing, so I am not going to ask that of you. So, please, can you send me a copy of blueprints for your trans-dimensional traveling vessel?

Sorry. You'll just have to settle for the cover ;)

C3PX said:

One last question, have you had a chance to watch it yet? Are there any subtle differences between this version of the film and the version from our universe?

Aside from being the best presentation of the theatrical version I've ever seen, no, not really.

CO said:

As for Star Wars ending in 1977, this board wouldn't exist, and Star Wars would have a different type of fanbase, more along the lines of Wizard of Oz and Jaws fans.  More mainstream, more accepting to the general public...

Well, I was thinking that Star Wars would be received more like Tron, the Black Hole, the 1980 version of Flash Gordon, or Willow.

Thanks for the responses guys. So, is anyone other than me gonna print this out and agonize over it?

tjdavis, thanks so much for the clips.

I've watched the first three clips so far, and I'm very impressed by how y'all were able to use the flashback approach to cover the high points of the PT. The AOTC love sequence is particularly nice. At this level, it's actually believable that they could fall in love.

As RoccondilRinon said, your edits show that the dialog of the prequels is the weak link. Watching the clips, I began to realize that the prequels really do work better as silent movies. Just by looking, we get the main jist - with little or no dialog. And for the purposes of the story, the main jist is all we need. In short, the "whats" are powerful and relevant, but the "whys" are weak and unnecessary.

Once again, I'm saddened that this project has been dropped, but I understand. These are such great ideas. I hope they find a home eventually.

Thanks.

How do you think the ultimate release will turn out (best case scenario)?

Sluggo said:

If the folks at Lucasland can release a $4000 box of pictures in a 2 foot wooden crate, then they are capable of thinking about making something "just for us obsessive types".

HA! Too True!

OK. Here's my pessimistic outlook. There will be no theatrical versions, no OOT.

I think we will get 2 box sets, one for DVD and one for Blu-Ray, and both will be the same except for the resolution of the format. It would be foolish to ignore the DVD market for the next few years, since it's still very much alive. We will get two discs per movie, one for the latest SE version of the movie, and one for special features. Most of the movies will be tweaked slightly in some way or another (in the same way that the Special Editions were tweaked when they made it to DVD).

The theatrical versions of the PT are a minor curiosity, and I can't see George giving half a rat's patootie about them. As far as the OOT, I don't think we'll get a respectable version of that for a few years. I suspect that the main reason we got the GOUT was to kill the OOT bootlegs. Since there are currently no high-quality DVD or HD versions of the OOT, there's nothing for George to compete with, nothing that's making him look bad. When we do get that (probably in the next couple of years), then an official version of the OOT will come our way in Blu-Ray.

Just finished watching the '04 DVD version of Star Wars

Scruffy, that's one of the most thoughtful and interesting things I've ever read on the whole Anakin Force ghost issue. Thanks!

Negative1, George Lucas has every right to re-edit his films and release them to his heart's content. A part of me enjoys seeing what he can come up with. But taking the original versions of the films - that were loved by the entire world for 14-20 years - and letting them whither on the vine until they no longer exist? He does not have that right.
