Yet ANOTHER DVD boxed set...*sigh*
Time

You guys are looking at this in a far too linear and logical manner - not like George. Star Wars is not a chronological series of events or a tale of cause and effect. Star Wars is a fluid gestalt of lightsabers, sacrifice, laser blasts, redemtion, spaceships, and destiny. It's a big moebius strip, with no beginning and no end.

Oh, and it's also worth over $20 billion.

I personally think that the creation of the Death Star should have had much, much more foreshadowing in the prequel series.

...

It's only until much later in his life he realizes his grave misjudgment as he recognizes the same space-station that was proposed all those years ago whilst being drawn into it aboard the Millennium Falcon.

I agree that the Death Star could have been used more in the prequels. They should have shown why Obi Wan seemed to recognize it in ANH.

AHHH!! All these lost opportunities make my head hurt.

5: And something that I have always wondered about, the Ion cannon on Hoth, should it's bolts not be blue?

Now this is something that has only cropped up since the PT and the new Clone Wars cartoon. There were no blue laser blasts ever in the OT. This is one thing that seemed to be added in the PT to go with the over-colourful look of those movies. Turning the Ion cannons lasers blue just wouldn';t work. it fires against a blue background so the laser would just blend in. I don't want to change the colour of lasers at all in the OT

Actually, the blue for ion blasts started in 1991 with the X-Wing game for the PC, and has been the case in all of the games since then as far as I know. Granted, that's EU, but it's pretty old EU (if that matters).

In ANH, the stormtrooper stuns Leia with a blue laser. It could be argued that stun blasts and ion blasts are the same thing.

Is this over the line? Check out the Luke "Obama" poster/t-shirt...
Time

That's cool. I saw this image elsewhere online, and I saved a copy to make my own t-shirt. Now I don't have to go through the trouble. Thanks for finding this.

Regardless of your position on Obama, this is a clever Star Wars shirt.

FYI, I recently used zazzle to make a coffee mug in the style of the old Star Wars cereal bowl.

Questions about possible changes in the first film
Time

The scene with the mouse droid has been a point of contention for many years, but no definitive proof has ever surfaced.

The actress who played Beru was dubbed in all prints. Her actual voice has never been a part of Star Wars.

As fas as IMDB goes, well, I wouldn't put any stock in their info. It seems to be submitted by zombies and approved by monkeys. Take it seriously at your own risk.

Extended original cut of first film released way back?
Time
Hunter6 said:

Yes, there was an Extended original cut of first film which was about 15 or 20 minutes longer and yes, a little group of theaters showed it, but not long. It was pulled after two showings on opening today. Lucas has turned this little thing into an urban legend. Some of the Usenet posters are telling the truth. No one could have seen it many times because they all were pulled. It also was missing some effects and the lightsaber effects were odd. It was not the greatest way to see star wars for the first. The only good thing about it is Vader use more force powers and acts more cocky in the original cut. I think one day Lucas will add some of these back in some type of new SE.

Any facts to back this up?

Another thing I mentioned before and I think others may have agreed, is that the shot where the sheild generator explodes depicts a ginormous explosion that would easily engulf Han and the others. Watch the sequence: After planting the charges, has comes running out like 50 feet away and ducks behind some reeds or something. Then we see a monstrous explosion that looks like its decimating a 1/2 mile radius at least. Then we cut back to Han, who doesn't have so much a a smudge on his face or a black puff in his foreground, his patch of reeds is completely untouched. Total continuity failure.

I've always assumed the "back-door" bunker was some distance from the main shield generator. We see the major explosion of the shield generator, but only a small explosion at the bunker.

The star destroyer launched a half dozen probes down onto the planet. Why can't the one we saw be one of them and the one Luke saw be a different one? A third could have been the one that saw the shield generator and the one that Han and Chewie shot could have been a fourth.

It doesn't matter which probe droid is which.

I always got the impression that only 1 probe landed on Hoth. That's all we see.

One could even argue that what Luke saw crash is actually a meteorite, and not the probe droid. The movie is ambiguous (probably intentionally) about that.

Aside from Force visions, the timeline always moves forward in the Star Wars movies. So having the probe droid crash, then moving back in time so that Luke sees it crash, just doesn't feel right to me.

I suppose at the end of the day Im looking for a like-minded community to share my favoriteist hobby ever with and I cant share with you becuase anything post 83 you hate.

I wouldn't say all of us hate everything post-83. But the common denominator here is the OT. As I've said in the past, Star Wars is a big place with lots of different types of fans, so it can be hard to find the exact niche you're looking for.

Have you been over to http://galacticsenate.com/? They're not as hardcore about the OT as we are here, and they seem pretty mature.

Star Wars Saga: Silent Film Edition (Released)

Ripplin said:

Nice find. :) One thing I like about having the PT in silent mode is that it hides some of those HORRIBLE sound effects! Some of them bugged me even more than Jar Jar! Specifically, it's that stupid warbling thing Ben Burtt seems to have become obsessed with. I can't stand it. Even the stupid creatures in the arena do it.

What about

SQUAWK

Boga? I literally

SQUAWK

can't get enough

SQUAWK

of that Boga sound effect.

SQUAWK

But this edit sounds cool, and I'll try to check it out.

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION
Time

I used that Vader because it was almost exactly the same as the Vader Adywan used as the basis for his painting. I modified it to look as much as possible like the Vader in the painting.

The "concept" for the cover was that the Purist edition is a more simplified version of SW Revisited, hence the "simplified" version of the painting I was shooting for.

Adywan (or anyone else):

Can you identify some fonts used on the official cover?

I'd like to get the font for the back body text, as well as the "Star Wars Revisited" font from the spine.

I'm working on a cover for the Purist Edition, and I'd like to match the official cover as much as possible.

Thanks!
