Info Wanted: Legality, fan-edits, and more. Legality, fan-edits, and repercussions
Time

The only time I can recall someone getting into trouble for producing a fan edit was Selutron who was working on an edit of Superman II, it was an incredibly ambitious edit as far as fanedits go too. Even Warner Bros were impressed by what he was doing, but for whatever reason he was ordered to stop production of it, maybe it was because he was always talking shit about the Donner Cut lol. Joking aside, I think the most logical explanation was his work was gaining a lot of attention across the web to the point Warners were worried about the possibilities of the fan cut surfacing and doing the rounds on the black market, I heard something like that happened to another guy who was working on some called “Superman II: The Green Cut”.

Battle Beyond The Stars (1980):
Considering the budget and what Corman and co. were setting out to do, I was expecting “so bad its good” results. I was pleasantly surprised to find it to be pretty serviceable, as knock off of The Magnificent Seven/Seven Samurai and Star Wars its easily one of the best out there (More watchable than Star Crash, at least). It has its own unique production design, a great James Horner score and surprisingly detailed miniatures to boot and is clearly a labour of love for those worked on it. The camp didn’t bother much at all either, if anything it’s the kind of camp that I enjoy.

A fanedit that improves upon the space scenes with updated effects and less repeated space shots would actually be pretty awesome.

Middle School: The Worst Years Of My Life (2016)

Pretty average school movie, I think there were about 5 lines in the entire movie that made me laugh and that was it. Nothing really stuck out as looking unique to me while watching, though that might just be me being biased towards the way older comedies were made/written.

Dr Strangelove (1964)

Lovely.
