Here is a positive. I know a couple of people in my church who just lost their son. (I’ve talked about it in the emotional support thread) He had Morquio’s Syndrome. For the 45 years he was alive it slowly ravaged his body. He and his parents had all sorts of difficulties, especially in the last few years of his life. When he died, of course his parents were devastated. Yet they were also filled with hope and joy and had comfort. Why? Because they believe their son is in heaven with the Lord and has new body and is free of all the devastation caused by his Morquio’s. Their son had hope throughout his life because he believed that eventually he would go to be with the Lord and have a new body. I’d call that a positive.
A net positive’s what’s under discussion here. No one* has denied the positive effect religion can have on the individual/family/etc. (as someone who considers himself religious, I sure wasn’t).
*Mfm possibly excluded.
Tenel Ka Djo.
Chaney’s titular Phantom make-up (which unfortunately does not generate the same effect these days)
I beg to differ.
The overly distorted features (in combination with Chaney’s theatrical acting and the film speed, depending on how you watch it), make for a character that doesn’t quite fit in with the contemporary concept of what’s found scary (more grounded approaches, for better or worse). Plus, despite the scene’s iconic status, I don’t find the staging of the unmasking scene to be effective. Which basically just works to create a moment that feels unfortunately inadvertently comedic to modern sensibilities.
I won’t speak for anyone else, but I found his makeup unnerving the first time I saw it, and upon rewatch still found it unnerving.
Again, I think you want Star Wars to be science fiction and not fantasy, and so you find excuses to fit it into that box.
That’s a bingo.
I don’t recall Bingowings ever advocating that view.
I’ve not slept for 3 weeks.
How can you stay away for that long?
You can’t. Tis a joke. The most any human can stay awake is about 11 days, and the effects of attempting to go this long can be life-threatening, and if it doesn’t kill you, it can cause permanent physiological damage. This is why preventing prisoners from sleeping is considered a form of torture.
I thought I saw somewhere that if you go without sleep for long enough(much shorter than 3 weeks), that you start having hallucinations.
Almost makes it sound worth it.
I don’t see religion as an overall net positive or negative. It simply is, for better or worse.
That’s pretty much how I feel, too. Thoughts and feelings regarding religion and the church tend to be more individualistic, rather than seeing it as a monolithic entity. I’ve met chill religious folk, and I’ve met radicals. Heck, I’ve met both groups from within the same sect.
It’s true. All of it.
This lie that LGBT people are mentally ill is just one of the many reasons why everybody should condemn this kind of religiosity.
I know I do. I just don’t conflate it with religiosity in toto.
He married a Kardashian. That says everything, really.

Just call it nerd porn and call it a day already.
+2
I really like the look and costume of Eric’s Marty, I wonder if someone will take the design and put in another film.
I would if the right assholes forked over enough cash.
Star Wars has been sucking wind since 1983.
Now let’s talk about the absolute blessing that is uncooked pizza.
for nosferatu, all I can say is dullsville
This leaves me with so little faith in humanity that I feel like committing suicide by sunlight.
I’m kinda surprised that you don’t seem to hate the Azbats costume.
I kinda do, I kinda don’t. The first incarnation of the suit is a hot mess, but there are elements I like. I can’t say the same for the more !!!EXTREME!!! versions that came after.
Philip J. Fry.
monkey named Mojo.
I haven’t seen Whiplash. Subject matter doesn’t interest me, so I won’t make the effort to see it.
Not a bad storyline, but there was too little material for three issues, and Azbats has no chemistry with the Joker.
The movie is about a man who emotionally abuses his students into becoming good musicians. It works, of course, and everyone, including that monster, gets a happy ending. It’s the most viscerally unpleasant film I’ve ever sat through
Obviously, you’ve never watched Not Another Teen Movie.
I’d say the same about John Glover, but that’d be a lie.
This is why I don’t consider myself disenfranchised not to be part of social media.
Whiplash (2014)
Disgusting filth. I hated every second of this toxic piece of shit.
I’ll agree with Warb on one point — this forum ain’t as fun as it used to be.
