Beru was fried to a crisp and stayed that way, while May died but then - through the magic of stupid, asinine retconning - returned to life and has been truckin' along ever since.
I'm placing my chips on the latter.
Now that I think about it, it would be kind of interesting if Ep. VI had ended on the same note as Dune, with Luke becoming the new Emperor - and eventually a reluctant dictator - ala Paul Atreides.
It certainly would have paved the way for an interesting sequel trilogy, at any rate.
What about an origin story focusing on Vader's armour polish? Is that okay?

I liked it a lot more this time time around than I did the first time I saw it. The book's still better, though.

Night of the Demon (1957)
Great movie. The only downside were the close-up shots of the demon - it almost turns an otherwise perfectly sublime film into some goofy kaiju film. It's a minor flaw, though, and not enough to bring the rest of the movie down.

I would have liked this movie more had the main character been less of a dipshit and/or the movie had focused on his girlfriend/Roddy McDowell's character instead.
