This is just sad, they do know that since kids can no longer read comics their sales are just going to keep shrinking right?

DC and Marvel are both run by continuity-obsessed fanboys who haven't been kids in decades, thus their audience is largely made up of continuity-obsessed fanboys who haven't been kids in decades.

Basically, they only write stories for themselves -- stories which are almost always Z-grade ripoffs of Frank Miller and Alan Moore stories -- and are incapable of seeing past their own egos to understand that they're shooting themselves and the companies they work for in the foot.

Or they could hire some of the writers who worked on Batman the Animated series or Spectacular Spiderman, they seemed to understand how to tell good comic book stories without going to far. Anything would be better then this.

I know that Paul Dini worked as a writer on Detective Comics. I haven't read any of his storylines, though, so I can't say how good they are.

A New direction for Lucasfilm Animation

Well, I watched the first three seasons of TCW and the first two episodes of the fourth, and I've pretty much decided to stop watching here.

Yes, the show is better than the PT, with far better writing, acting, and characterization. However, that doesn't save it from mediocrity; the Jedi are still overpowered and lame, the villains are still two-dimensional, there is still too much universe shrinkage, for every good episode there are five lame ones, and beyond Ahsoka and -- surprisingly -- Padmé, I just don't really care about any of the main characters.

Perhaps I'll complete watching TCW one day, but only gradually, with an episode or three every two months or so, 'cause frankly, there are other series I'm far more interested in watching/rewatching than this one.

What do you LIKE about the EU?

I also wonder if Marvel will publish Star Wars #108.

I'd actually like to see that very much. It's unlikely to happen, though, as too many comic companies have the notion these days that any comic series with more than two digits on the cover doesn't sell as well ones with big, fat #1s boldly plastered on the cover.

The sequels need to bring back the tension of the originals, but I don't exactly know how they'll do that given that the antagonists were soundly defeated in Return of the Jedi.

That's only true for the SE. The theatrical version leaves it up to the individual to decide for him/herself if the entire Empire was defeated in the Battle of Endor if it merely was the battle that spelled the beginning of the end for the Empire.

I only like the original film and Empire. No SE, PT, EU books or comics, cartoon shows, ect. I don't collect toys or cards or any merchandise. I actually don't own a single official product except for the original OT boxset on VHS and I loaned that to my sister to show my nephews over 10 years ago*. I have no intentions of asking for it back.

So... can/should I still call myself a Star Wars fan?

Sure, why the hell not? You're needlessly limiting your horizons, but that's your prerogative and it doesn't make you any less a fan. ;-)

Here's why I don't read modern superhero comics anymore:

This grand experiment with shooting in 48p has essentially resulted in a compromised 24p version of the movie. I saw both movies in the theater in 48-frame 3D because that's how they were actually shot and intended to be seen. It's just that they happen to be prequels to a movie that wasn't shot that way at all.

Hmm ... what does this remind me of?

Speaking of bad CGI being over-used, I'm watching the Hobbit 2 on Blu-Ray just now and some of the effects are incredibly bad - like early 90s bad. When I saw it in theater, I saw it in 3D, which makes bad CGI look a lot better, because it adds realism but in 2D, it looks totally horrible. And even some of the green-screen effects are just mindbogglingly bad - I even noticed a clear black matteline-like outline around Bilbo in one shot and it's good 3-pixels-wide in 1080p.

And the whole film just looks somehow unrealistic - I think the frame-rate conversion from 48 to 24fps may be at fault there, or maybe it's the fact that the film's been shot digitally, I don't know - either way, it is a visual disaster, as well as a storytelling one.

All the more reason for me to never bother with these movies.
