They could never make Discovery if they were beholden to the aesthetic of the 60s
Why? I love the 60s aesthetic! It’d get me to watch this show, anyway.
I assume the-powers-that-be want the show to appeal to demographics beyond the hardcore Trekkies who like retro kitsch.
Most people would’ve been satisfied if they recreated this:
with some modern “movie” sensibilities. Not as unnecessarily shiny-white as JJ Abrams did, but that’s the idea. You can make it look like the same in universe time period without making it look like low budget '60s TV again. The Cage didn’t even have the excessively colorful lighting the series would have so the original look of the sets translate really well to a more realistic look.
I agree.

A fine reason to jettison “canon” altogether, mayhap.
He’s not jesting and don’t call him Shirley .
Damn. And I thought humans had a monopoly on fetishes.
I feel embarrassed for that horse.
It goes without saying that if Stan had not been persuaded that a little movie called Star Wars would make for a great comic book, Marvel as we know it might not exist today.
That’s a good thing?
Marvel was struggling a bit in the late ‘70’s. The industry was in a slump overall. Star Wars’ amazing success led to a ton of books being sold and not just SW. It’s no coincidence other Marvel books had swashbuckling space characters and spacefaring storylines around that time.
Yeah, I know all that. I was just making a cynical jab at modern Marvel.
[JEDITED DOUBLE POST]
I totally mis-read your origin

Good night sweet prince: And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest!
Meh.
I’m probably the only one here who’s excited for next year’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters, but I am very excited.
The world they’ve set up is great, the cast is fantastic, the director has already created a modern classic [Trick r’ Treat(2007)] and the line up of monsters is enough to get the kid in me giddy as hell. Should be fun!
I’m only interested in it 'cause of Millie & Vera.
the stars are not B&W. There is color there.
ChainsawAsh said:
… how do you develop characters? By giving them screen time. You could argue that he should have had more development in RO-That’s a bingo.
No wings, though.
The entirety of human history has left me cynical.
Surely you jest.
a fan of cloned Emperor, Luke etc.
It was a mistake making lightsabers a technological weapon that anyone with opposable digits can turn on and use.
The last several weeks have left me feeling rather cynical.
^Stick Peter Cushing in there, and you can play a game of fifteen-ball pool.
As much as I want to resist the impulse to default to “CAST THE STRANGER THINGS KIDS IN EVERYTHING” fever, she would be great and she’s exactly the right age to jump in on season 2.
I’m setting myself up for a paddlin’, but I just don’t see it.
I really dig Millie, but I can’t see her as Leia.
I’m sorry but Duck Soup is perfect.
I’m sorry but not enough salt.
Let’s just say we’re all wrong and that’ll be that.
