Heavy Metal (1981) - Strange, I had heard that this is an animated film for adults, but it seems rather juvenile to me. Nonetheless, the film ranges from vaguely cool to very cool. While there are a lot of aspects that could have been done better, there are a lot of things that were done well. Overall, pretty enjoyable. B-

Underrated Sequels/Prequels

Alright, I could go into a little more detail on why I don't like BTTF2 all that much ...

Whereas BTTF & BTTF3 are distinct movies with their own distinct stories and styles, BTTF2 is just a parasite that piggybacks off of BTTF in order to exist; it has no distinct story of its own -- it's basically just a rehash of the original movie shown from another POV -- and beyond serving as a bridge between the two other movies, it serves no real purpose.

I heard the original idea of BTTF2 was for Marty to end up travelling into 1967, and frankly, I wish they had gone that route; it would have been more interesting and new ground would have actually been covered.

I have virtually no social life off of the Internet, so I can't really comment on the proliferation of "Sith" within the general community.

Ask your relatives and co-workers.

My immediate family aren't even Star Wars fans, so I know they don't know about "Sith".

As for co-workers, on the other hand, I haven't had any since 2008.

Prince Valorum. Bad guy,

Not really--he ends up joining the heroes in the end.

Also, I think Dark Horse really missed an opportunity by not drawing Valorum as Samuel L. Jackson. But then again they also whitewashed General Skywalker, who in all likelihood Lucas meant to be Japanese.

I agree regarding the whitewashing. They could do anything... so everyone is white.

Han was green ... *shrug*

INT. CORUSCANT -- 662 GASGAR VALLEY APARTMENT COMPLEX/OBI-WAN & SIRI'S APARTMENT/DINING AREA -- EVENING

Obi-Wan and Siri sit on opposite ends of the small dining table, facing one another. Though they both poke at the food on their plates, neither are really hungry.

OBI-WAN: How is it? The recipe called for twenty minutes but I left it on an extra five. I didn't overcook anything, did I?

SIRI: (sullen) No, no. It's just fine.

OBI-WAN: Do you need any salt? I could pass you --

SIRI: I don't need any salt, Ben, it's fine as it is.

An awkward moment of silence passes between them.

OBI-WAN: Siri, maybe we should talk about ... about what happened.

SIRI: No, we don't. Just eat your food.

OBI-WAN: Love, we can't just avoid it. We have to --

SIRI: (enraged) I said I don't want to talk about it! Now shut up and let me eat!

In anger, Siri begins to stab at her plate violently, breaking it in half.

SIRI: (crying) Oh, goddammit!

Bolting up out of her chair, she runs out of the room. Abandoning his plate, Obi-Wan follows after her.

EXT. APARTMENT BUILDING/BALCONY -- EVENING

Siri stands out of the balcony, her hands tightly gripped around the railing. Her eyes shut tight and her teeth bared in a grimace, she weeps. Slowly, cautiously, Obi-Wan joins her, placing his hand on her shoulder to comfort her.

SIRI: I lost our baby, Ben, I lost him! Oh, God, I lost him!

Wrapping his arms around her, Obi-Wan kisses her on the temple then rests his head on her shoulder.

OBI-WAN: He's left us but we'll see him again, Siri, we'll see him again.

SIRI: I wanted to see him, Ben, to hold him in my arms at least once. I wanted to let him know I loved him. (beat) I wanted to be a mother.

OBI-WAN: You will, love, you will. We'll try again.

SIRI: (turns to face him) Try again? For what? For another miscarriage? For another baby born dead?

OBI-WAN: We'll just have to wait until the treatments are finished before we try again. Next time will work out, I promise.

Grabbing hold of him, Siri buries her face in his chest.

SIRI: Oh, Lord, Ben, I need to get out of here! I need to get off this planet! I need to get away from this dead city with its dead buildings on this dead planet! I need to leave! Please, Ben, take me away from here!

Releasing a tortured moan, Siri continues to sob, clutching her husband to her tightly. Bringing up his arms, Obi-Wan holds her, rubbing her back gently. Looking up, he regards the durasteel buildings stretching out beyond the balcony, their windows aglow with artificial illumination.

OBI-WAN: I know where to go, Siri. I know exactly where to go ...

Heck, the idea of an Imperial Inquisitor first originated in the WEG RPG source books. The books that provided the backbone of the EU itself.

Of course, the Inquisitors of the EU are far more interesting -- not to mention better designed -- than this boring corduroy-faced, third-rate Count Orlok-knockoff.

But I digress ...

Well that's a textbook case of judging a book by its cover if I've ever seen one.

He's a Pau'an as introduced in ROTS. They all look like that and that look was undoubtedly the reason why they chose that species for the character.

Yes, I know he's a Pau'an and that his race wasn't created for the show -- I still don't like his design (I don't think I need to go into detail on why.).

BUT, that doesn't say anything about how the character will actually be depicted. You nor I or anyone else not involved with the production really know anything about the character yet.

True, he may turn out to be an excellent character. If so, then perhaps I'll be able to forgive his horribly lame, unoriginal design -- at least in part.

He just might actually end up being like the Inquisitors as depicted in the EU. That's entirely a possibility. Heck, in the video where they talk about the character it's mentioned that he's not a Sith but that he does tap into the Darkside.

I'm sure he'll serve the same purpose as the EU Inquistors. However, he still won't dress as well as they do.

STAR WARS: REBELS (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread

^I notice they don't call him a Dark Jedi, though, either. I've noticed that with TCW, too, in regard to the non-Sith darksiders on that show.

Frankly, I don't know why the current regime is so reluctant to use the term; they're always going "Well, such-and-such isn't a Sith, but he does use the dark side of the Force and yada yada yada". For God's sake, just say the non-Sith darksiders are Dark Jedi and save yourself the effort of using so many words to say so very little.

Fritz Lang's Die Nibelungen (1924), parts I and II

The great Fritz Lang's two-part film cycle about the famous German legend of Siegfried the dragon-slayer and his wife Kriemhild. Quite enjoyable if you like silent films in the vein of Metropolis.

The films are pretty damn faithful to the source material, the medieval epic poem The Nibelungenlied. However, they're also full of Lang's trademark striking visuals. There's some unusual symbolism, too--for instance, Lang uses trees throughout both movies as a symbol of death.

Clearly this film duology was an influence on the young George Lucas. And also Tim Burton: Danny Elfman's Batman theme is quite obviously taken from Gottfried Huppertz's musical motif representing Attila the Hun.

7 out of 10 severed heads.

Great, yet another movie I have to add to my already immense watchlist.
