Was Samuel L a good addition to the Prequels?
Time

Truth be told, I think I hate Windu more than any other character from the PT -- Hayden included; there's just something about overrated douchebag assholes who get purple lightsabers they don't deserve that causes something in my blood to start boiling.

So, taking that into consideration, I guess Jackson succeeded in getting me emotionally involved in his character (even if all said emotions were strongly negative) which is something none of the other characters really managed to do.

Duracell's signature is large, annoying, and possibly against the forum rules, but I'm too lazy to check.

Very well -- I will remove it forthwith. But first ...

I've been thinking some more about this and, personally, if I were George Lucas, there are two major things I'd have done differently.

Firstly, I would have kept the first movie's title simply as STAR WARS. no added episode number later, the sequels are simply called THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK and RETURN OF THE JEDI.

Secondly, I would have told the stories of the prequels with a trilogy of books... That way, you get to know how and why Anakin Skywalker turned to the dark side, you hear all about The Clone Wars, and you get to picture the characters however you want to. There aren't so many disappointments when the actors chosen don't match the images we've had in our heads for the characters.

AND... For any newbies, or those who only watch the films... There are NO SPOILERS!!! :)

This solves the problem in my mind... I'll probably get blasted for saying it, but there you go.  If other films had to be made they could've been about another group of characters. Stand alone stories, completely unrelated to the STAR WARS TRILOGY...

Just imagine the front covers of those books... Anakin and Obi-Wan shown as younger versions of Alec Guinness and Sebastian Shaw!!

I think if Lucas had done this, instead of making them movies, he could have stayed truer to the original ideas he had and, therefore, he would have been able to tell a far better story, it could have been a true epic and even become one of the great sci-fi book series of all time!!!

I'me getting pretty overexcited thinking about this here... Lol

I'd have loved to see this though!!! I'd love to hear what you guys think... :)

Change "trilogy of books" to "trilogy of comic book mini-series", and I'll agree 110%.

Change "trilogy of comic book mini-series" to "trilogy of Flash-Gordon-esque animated films" and you've got something completely different. Cool different.

Whatever floats your boat. I prefer the medium of comics to animation, myself.

Maybe I'm not charitable enough to Star Wars' patriarch, but the most recent creative input from Lucas that I'm aware of is giving Palpatine the name "Sheeve."

I honestly take comfort knowing Lucas is removed from the bulk of what's going on.

"Sheeve" is totally a name I'd associate with a pasty-faced, dark side-wielding emperor. *rollseyes*

Star Trek: Of Gods and Men (2007)

There isn't much for me to say on this one beyond that for a fan film, it didn't suck; I enjoyed seeing Nichelle Nichols and Walter Koenig reprising their roles from TOS, and it nice to see Alan Ruck play a version of his character from Generations who wasn't a lame cypher.

Oh, and I loved seeing Koenig in a bad wig again.

It may not be the ludicrous Monkee wig he wore in the '60s, but it's got a hideous charm all its own.

The Night Stalker (1972)

I can definately seen the influence this had on The X-Files; there's a strong forensics element prevalent throughout and Kolchak is almost a proto-Mulder in how he handles things with humour and fights to uncover the truth. It was also nice to finally see the actor who played the psychologist in Psycho in something else. So, with those things in mind, I found this film worth watching.

Unfortunately, I can't rate it as highly as I'd like to rate it. The jazzy score just ruins any aura of menace the film has every time it pops up and the vampire himself looks and sounds pathetic; a more appropriate score and keeping the vampire hidden in the shadows would have made a significant improvement.

6.4/10

Magnum Force (1973)

I saw the plot twist coming early in the film, so perhaps that's the reason why I found the ending of the movie really underwhelming. That aside, though, I found the earlier "whodunnit" portions of the film very engrossing and enjoyable.
