No, but there's still the overwhelming feeling that it was all for nothing.

Again, it's fiction, sprung from human imagination. None of it is real. None of it is true.

This:

has absolutely no more or less objective existence than this:

Just because some cabal stamps the former "canon" and the latter "non-canon" doesn't mean a goddamn thing; it doesn't remove the old books from your bookshelves or your memories.

Stop relying on corporate bigwigs to decide for you what is or isn't real from works of complete fiction. Take what works you like, make them your personal canon, and discard everything you don't want; fuck the official canon.

Those books you love are still around, right? They haven't magically faded from existence, have they? Then continue to read them and continue to enjoy them. It doesn't matter worth a damn if Lucasfilm/Lucas Licensing/Disney/whatever considers them "true" or not -- its all fiction, anyway, so none of it is true. If the stories still resonate with you, accept them as part of your personal canon and move on.

Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *

I'd be interested if anyone wanted to share their personal approach to spoilers, either for Ep7 or their experience with the prequels.

It was relatively easy for me to avoid spoilers for the prequels when they came out; I simply didn't own a computer with Internet access at the time. =P

Did any of you walk out of the theatre for any of the Star Wars prequels?

It may not be "calm" and "sarcastic" like most of Vader's other lines, but it certainly isn't the rageaholic meltdown imperialscum's making it out to be.

Since scenes before and after indicate that his primary emotion was a huge disappointment after being rejected by his son, even a slightest level of anger does not fit in there.

Here's my rebuttal:

What would've been ideal is George stepping back and being the over-arching supervisor of everything, writing the story outline for the PT and the post-Jedi EU but letting other screenwriters, directors and authors fill in the details. Instead he was hyper-focused on the PT and paid little attention to anything else.

What would have been ideal is if Lucas had just washed his hands of the franchise altogether and started working on something new.

Regarding Vader's "Bring my shuttle", while I found it full of frustration, I never saw any outright anger in it. IMO, Vader came off as being annoyed more than anything else.

The line may not be as cool and calm as most of Vader's other lines in the film, but it certainly isn't the rageaholic meltdown imperialscum's making it out to be.

Video Games - a general discussion thread
Time

Since becoming a fan of the 1985 Jennifer Connelly film Phenomena, I learned that the Japanese made a video game for the SNES that was inspired by the movie -- Clock Tower.

Needless to say, I was interested in checking it out. And I did. And gotdang it, if it isn't an incredibly hard sonuvabitch to play. You can't exactly "walk" the character you're playing conventionally -- you either have to move the cursor in the direction you want Jennifer to walk towards then press "Y", or press the "L" or "R" buttons to make her run left/right -- and when this bastard

appears on screen, you have to run and hide until you lose him; you don't have any weapons to defend yourself with -- all you can do is press "B" repeatedly to block his scissors and push him to the floor if he catches up to you, and that's only a temporary solution; he'll eventually spring back up and resume the chase in no time flat.
