Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *
Time

I don’t think this rules out Finn being Force-sensitve or becoming a Jedi; I’d guess he’d probably need to have some aptitude to be able to make any use at all of a lightsaber.

Last time I checked, it doesn’t take Force-sensitivity to swing a blade. People in the real world have been doing it for millennia.

Just watch Star Wars and ESB then go in and watch TFA imagining that it was the third film and it refers to grand events that were not seen in the cinema and see if that make the new film an interesting “episode 3”.

Then how did Han get unfrozen and meet Finn and Rey?

The carbon freezing unit broke down on a hot day. The rest writes itself.

Starships in your OT prequels
Time

I’ve been using a mish-mash of different ships from various sources – the OT, the EU, and even the PT. The feelings I’m trying to invoke depend on the circumstances/locations/parties involved.

Lictor-class dungeon ship

Jehavey’ir-class assault ship (Jehavey’ir-type assault ship in official sources)

Kom’rk-class fighter

In my first episode, the Mandalorian Death Watch served as the villains of the story. A remnant of the once-great and powerful Mandalorian civilization, the Death Watch has nothing but a single stronghold left on a single backwater planet located beyond the outskirts of civilization. As such, I wanted their ships to be old – kind of gritty and rundown – but still quite formidible.

Venator-class star defender (Venator-class star destroyer in official sources)

Victor-class star destroyer (Victory-class star destroyer in official sources)

T-Wing fighter (Z-95 Headhunter in official sources)

First-generation TIE fighter (Basically the body of Vader’s advanced TIE fighter with the hexagonal wing panels of the regular TIE)

In my prequels, the Republic has already transitioned into the Empire. Palpatine hasn’t stepped into power yet, though, so while still heavily militarized – and a fair bit more corrupt than the preceeding Republic – it hasn’t become the wholly evil dictatorship it will be by the OT era. As such, there are a mixture of Imperial-type craft and craft which’ll look more at home within the Rebel Alliance in future decades.

Imperator-class star destroyer (Imperial-class star destroyer in official sources)

First-generation Y-Wing fighter

In my second episode, the main villains are the clones of the Athan Directorate (AKA the Clonemasters). Having broken away from the Empire shortly after the end of the Second Clone War, the Directorate has many of the same ships as the Imperials, including the newer model Imperator-class star destroyers and Y-Wing fighters. Unlike the Imperial ships – which are painted a silver gray – Directorate ships are all painted a stark white.

C60 corvette (I don’t think this ship model has been given a name in official sources)

By my third episode, Anakin’s personal starship will be the Slipstream. His pride and joy, he likes to keep it in as pristine a condition as possible.

Delta-7 Aethersprite-class starfighter

The ship of choice used by the Jedi of the Coruscanti Order when going out on solo missions. Like all Imperial craft, they’re painted a silver gray (unlike in the picture above).
