It displeases me that humanism and secular humanism have become conflated. The core tenets of humanism resonate with me, but I’ll never be able to identify as humanist without causing others to believe I’m a rationalist/materialist/non-theist, which I most certainly am not.

It displeases me that as a non native English speaker who is not used to discussions about beliefs I don’t know the definitions of humanism, secular humanism, conflated, tenets, rationalist, materialist and non-theist. As a result your post makes no sense to me, but I would like it to. I guess I should just read up on these things.

Don’t worry about it. I’m a native speaker, and there are times when I’m not sure if I even know what many of those words mean. 😉

Changed my mind.

What.

What exactly did you change your mind into that made you do such a thing?

Watched the movie a couple months ago. Thought to myself: “Good movie, but not really one I see myself revisiting often. I’ll probably hand it off to the other members in my family and free up some shelf space.”

Watched the first two seasons of the TV series a number of weeks later. Thought to myself: “I really like this. I want to eventually own this on DVD/BD. I’ll hang on to the film after all, since it’s all one big universe.”

Guys, we need a thread where we can talk about other people’s hands and specifically how soft their skin looks. We can talk about soap and lotion and pumice and towels and sometimes we could branch off into nailcare. It’ll definitely be a good thread.

They look like big, good, strong hands, don’t they?

They did — once.

defense of Polanski’s raping of a child

Didn’t he apologize for those comments at some point?

I also find it ridiculous when people refuse to watch/buy good films because terrible people in real life, and sometimes not even bad people but just disagreements. (no offense)

I bought Thriller on CD back in 2007, when MJ was still alive. I felt uncomfortable with the decision, knowing that while the music was excellent, Jackson might very well’ve been a child molester. But then he died, and I understood none of that money was going with him wherever he was going.
