Info & Help Wanted: Super Space Fortress Macross LD Preservation
Time
I have Robotech the Movie, and all it is is Megazone 23. Someone put a "screener" on demonoid a few weeks ago and I pulled it that night. It included the trailer and a music video as well. The copy I have looks like a 2nd or 3rd gen vhs rip, and it has a "For Screening Purposes Only" mark on the bottom, if I remember correctly. I'm a huge fan of the Dirty Pair fandubs (and even have a dvd I made of copies I got of them years ago), and I literally fell over laughing then I saw that there WAS a character called B.D. Andrews in Robotech the Movie (who was the villan is the 2nd Fandub ep).

That dubbed LD was the one done for japanese to learn english, like the old Porco Roso dub, isn't it? The japanese have a habit of doing that, making dubs for stuff just so they can learn the english language (or including subs, like on the FLCL dvds for eps 2-6). They would run the jap-produced eng dub on flights around and from the country, in the expectation of business men to pick up parts of the english language, or to give them a refesher course. It's actually a good concept if you think about it.

Speaking of Porco Roso, was the jap-produced dub on the official r2 dvd? I know that it was supposed to be on an older LD, but I haven't checked on the LD.

Part of me is thinking of taking my vhs copy (rental SLP tape to my old SLP tape) of Warriors of the Wind and putting it on dvd just for the hell of it. But I can't bring myself to do anything with the bastardization of my 2nd favorite movie of all time (#1 goes to Casablanca).

The Matrix Squared (Released)
Time
I have my copy of this that I can send you, xhonzi. shoot me an email and I'll see about getting it out to you this week.

I did notice the 2 parts that go out of sync, but they don't last too long, and I already knew about them so it wasn't bad at all. Overall, I really really enjoyed this edit alot. Just hated that we lost alot of Monica Belluci's screen time, but it actually made the Matrix sequel enjoyable to me. Another great edit by Spence, thanks man.

The Amazing Spider-Man: A Spence Edit (Released)
Time
I watched this cut last night (as well as alot of the dvds spence sent me in the past 18 hours). The edits on this are almost flawless. I love how Peter's story is the first 1/2 of the film, and Goblin isn't being all namby-pamby about turning Pete to the dark side. At first, with the exception of a few edits that I noticed, I thought I was watching my official dvd, it was that fluid. Great job, Spence.

Recieved my dvd of this in the mail today. Haven't watched it yet, but I'm going to skim through it at work tonight, and try and watch it on my days off (Tues/Wed).

That being said, I'm offering to start my PIF chain of this as of right now. I will be doing 3-5, maybe more, but you have to keep things going. Copies can be mailed out as early as Friday. hit me up on my email if you want to be part of this PIF chain (drgonzo369 at gmail dot com).

Transformers: The Movie
Time
the ratio in the Rhino disk was the best because it was the FULL full image, where as the regular fullscreen was some kinda "zoomed in" fullscreen. That being said, the Sony dvd is alot cleaner then the Rhino dvd. I had a comparison page when I got my TFTM dvd to check to see which was cleaner.

Michael Bay is a hack, plain and simple. the ONLY way I can watch Pearl Harbor is the cut that ADM did. I did like The Rock and ID4, but still, I can't stand Michael Bay. Hopefully he won't infect the Transformers with this movie coming out.

Transformers: The Movie
Time
The new Animated Movie dvd is superior to the Rhino one. I have the Rhino r1, the Sony r2 PAL and the new Sony R1 2dvd set, and it's so far the best out there. The R4 Aussie dvd has the music video on it, as well as the promo trailer with it's original audio, but the video on the new R1 dvd is phenomenal. The widescreen disk is cropped, but it's a ton cleaner then the Rhino version, and the fullscreen disk has the same aspect ratio as the Rhino dvd, but as clean as the WS dvd. The audio commentary is great as well, and about time it was done.

The new movie....eehhh....I'm gonna wait to see if it sucks....

BTW, Furman's comic is some of the greatest things I've ever read in print. The last 15 or so issues of the original Marvel TF comic series is, imo, the best TF story arc, followed up by the stuff that Furman did for Dreamwave, before they folded. The Cult of Unicorn is still eerie to me.

Armada was good only in the last 12 eps. Energon and Cybertron sucked in english. All 3 of the new shows are great subtitled. Out of all the TF series, not counting the toon movie, I'd say that Headmasters is my favorite series. Rumour was that Rhino was going to release Headmasters, Masterforce, and Victory on dvd in the US, but it never happened. Now that Sony is re-releasing G1 on dvd in 07, maybe they'll release HM, MF and Vic subbed in the US (I have the "brit dub" of Headmasters on vhs from Chinese tv, and I have random eps subbed and it's night and day). The Pal movie dvd has the 1st ep of Headmasters with the "brit dub", which is ok, but very off.

Love me some TFTM....

"Banning of OCPMovie"
Time
Since this is now a "my 2 cents" thread, I'll put mine in.

I arrived here in Nov 2004, probably after a link from one of Rikter's many torrents in that place we all know and love thanks to people like ADM, Rikter and DarkJedi (You know that one where everybody knows your name and share ratio. ). Anyways, I too have been a fan of The Thief and the Cobbler since reading that issue of Comic Scene (which might have been the same one with the Superman II script that made me love the original Donner version oh so many years ago, but I'm not sure). OCP's Deleted Magic was a thing of wonder, and his work on Thief is still amazing to me. The guy has a passion for his hobbies, that much I'll give him. Unfortunately, I've always lived by a rule of "What I have, I'll gladly share with you" with almost all acts of fandom (this has been my way since I was doing fansub vhs tapes back in the late 80's). When I first read the Thief threads, I was excited and shot OCP an email about getting copies of all the dvds he had done. I was quoted prices that seemed astronomically high for stuff that he got in trade himself, so I waited. I pulled the torrents, have given out more copies of Thief and Deleted Magic then I could count, and have spread the word of Dick Williams.

I saw the news about the 2k6 OOT dvds, and shared my opinions about GL's methods of releasing them on this and other forums. Personally, I think it was a crock of shit what GL did, but then again, he's been having people double-dip for years now, so it wasn't surprising to see him do it again. That being said, the first "banning of OCP" was kind of a shock, until I learned of his ranting. I followed threads to other forums where they too talked of banning him...but not because of Star Wars. They banned him because of Thief, because of money involved with Thief dvds, and for other reasons (some I agreed with, some I didn't, but I kept my opinion to myself).

Now, I've been into fansubbing and "bootlegging" per-say for right at 20 years or so, and in that entire time, I have never, EVER, charged someone for what I have. I'll ask for the medium to put it on (vhs back then, dvd now), or enough to cover said medium if I supply it, but I have never been paid for stuff for fandom. Have I traded? Yes, for an even trade of stuff. Have I just given people copies so they can see it or have it in their collection? All the freakin time. Hell, for the past few years, most of my friends have gotten fanedits or preservation dvds for birthday or christmas presents. Have I put stuff on ebay or sold people things that I downloaded/traded for/bought from a skeezy dealer at a con or evil "we rent or sale bootlegs or fansubs tapes/dvd" comic shop (ocp didn't do the ebay thing but alot of others have)? Oh HELL no. I didn't buy it, so I'm not making profit off of it.

OCP put alot of his own time and money into his Thief project, and for that I give him kudos and pats on the back and all that jazz. But, if he's offering it to people, to get it out there, to help people see what has not been previously seen before, charging them should have never come into the equation.

Deleted Magic- top notch work, which I still give out to this day to people as a great supplement to Star Wars and to see stuff they've never seen before with it.
The Thief and the Cobbler- I give this out like it's crack going out of style, and will continue to do so since we'll never be able to buy the "true" version of this film.

But selling stuff = wrong. Do not pass go, do not collect $200.

OCP will be missed, that goes without saying. The work he's done is some of the best stuff out there, and I hold his edits and preservations with that of ADM, CBB, AngrySvn, Rikter, MeBeJedi and a ton of other equally awesome assets to the fanedit/preservation community. But, I can't condone what he's done with the whole "I need money" thing. I'm sorry man, I've worked alot of shitty jobs at shitty pay (at my current one, I've worked both Thanksgiving and Christmas day at REGULAR pay because my boss doesn't have to pay holiday pay), and have never EVER resorted to selling fanedits or preservations of things.

If you're reading this OCP, I thank you for the work you've done on Thief, Deleted Magic, the SW Classic Editions, and your other projects. And I do wish you good luck in the future with your other movies, projects and life.

And my brain is empty......
Ok, no more typing out big "my 2 cents" rants while I'm at work working a swing shift....

Info: Anyone Have The Fight Club Workprint? Or any workprints for that matter?
Time
I just went through a quick scan of Dr Who. It's about 2nd or 3rd Gen vhs, and there are alot more "incomplete FX shots" then I remembered. Time codes bounce all over the place, as do they change types (depending on the FX shot). Some of the green screen parts are great, especially the last scene with Eric Roberts. It's a full 90 mins and clocks in at 3.49gig (I downloaded this one). Personally I love the 8th Doctor, and hate that this is his only screen appearance, but Roberts did a great job as the Master imo. I'm still waiting on fixer to finish his preservations and send them my way so I can PIF them.

Definitely tag me when you get back from holiday so we can work something out. My buddy who'll be in from Japan is a slobbering ED fan like myself, so he's dig the workprint of ED2. Shoot me an email and I'll get yer stuff out the door asap.

The Kill Bill is a homemade dvd I made back when the "workprint" was released right after Vol1 hit theaters. It's the version where none of the reel-changes are implimented, so every 10 or 15 mins or so, the countdown starts and the next reel starts. it's an mpeg-> dvd conversion (my 2nd ever) and is only 1.49gig big. Without the trailers (the original "no volume" one and the "volume 1" one I taked on at the end), it clocks in at 1hr:55m. The "Property of Miramax" is all over it, and I really couldn't spot any differences between it and the regular version, other then the reel breaks. I did it when an animated menu in tmpeg I think.

The Dr Who workprint is a true workprint, with mainly "fx missing" and "title here" shots throughout. My buddy in Japan actually has the Reg2 dvd and managed to get me one as well for X-mas, which he should be stateside in 8 hours, which is good for me. ^_^ This one is barebones and has one of the generic "stand alone dvd recorder" menus, and chapters I think every 15 mins.

If ya want copies, Beastley, shoot me an email or a pm.

I have a workprint of the 1996 Dr Who movie (vhs to dvd conversion with a standalone machine it looks like), the Kill Bill "reel" cut that was leaked, and will be getting the workprint of Payback called "Parker" here in the next week or so. I'd love to get that ED2 as well as any other workprints if anyone wants to trade or something.
