My friend came over the other day and was telling me how (fake) upset he was at me for convincing him to get an Xbox One. Now, every point I made about how I thought Microsoft might really have something here is gone. When they took away the always-on, they guaranteed that no one was going to fully utilize the cloud AI concept. And now that not everyone has to have a Kinect, they're not going to try anything pushing the envelope with it, especially if MS allows developers to utilize the processor space that Kinect was using. That means that some game might require you to have the Kinect unplugged. And without the Kinect's IR to control cable boxes, the all-in-One concept is pretty much gone.

Now I'm not an MS fanboy. I just appreciated MS trying something new. Now except for the dying WiiU (which even Nintendo seems to not be utilizing), the two systems are just PS3+ & Xbox 360+.

It's a games console so the whole voluntary espionage device angle was just daft. The NSA knows too much about you as it is why would you volunteer to give the heart beat count of up to five people in range of the kinky peephole on top of your telly box?  I'm too busy playing Pong it 12D.

Yeah i really don't need 1984 in my living room, also as I said I have no place to put the stupid thing so there was no way I was getting it as long as it had the camera.  I get a gaming system to play games, not watch movies,or let the government watch me so I don't care about any of those features.  i already have a Bluray player with a 2TB hard drive hooked up to it that has all sorts of video files,so having my gaming console do that with a hard drive 1/4th the size makes no sense.  I want to play games on my gaming console and that is all.  Given that the XBox has my favorite controller and some of my favorite games on it this is the best news I could have gotten on the gaming front this year.

^ Re anti-piracy promoting piracy ^

My mum wanted to buy me Morrissey's autobiography for Xmas on Kindle from Amazon but despite 1/2 an hour of total bafflement, she discovered that you can't 'gift' a Kindle book. Which is just crazy.

So plan-B, she purchased an Amazon voucher to the value of the E-Book and gave me that. On Xmas day I then spent another 1/2 hour or more trying and trying to purchase the E-book onto my Kindle and eventually gave up. "Please Amazon I'm begging you, all I want is to do is give you my Money!".

Plan C, I spent the voucher on a DVD and downloaded the E-Book illegally. It downloaded in seconds and I could read it immediately. No fuss, what service these criminals give to their customers! However I then found that my Kindle wouldn't accept the book no matter how many times I uploaded it seemingly because It had not gone through Amazon's software?

Skip to 5 months later and my Brother bought me the actual book for my Birthday. Praise physical objects, you never let me down!

Yeah that is why I love Blurays, real books, and games in cases.  At least I did before all this garbage started.  I had that same problem.  I wanted to gift all of the James Harriot books to my mom but wouldn't you know it you can't gift things on the Kindle and using a gift card is a pain in a half so I am not putting her through that.  It seems like every piece of anti piracy tech out there only forces people to pirate stuff,so good job there.

Oh and as for playing games in my 70s,well you have to remember that games didn't exist when the people who are in their 70s now where kids so they didn't grow up playing them. I have been playing games since I was two(My first system was the Vectrex and then I moved up to an Atair 7800) and count them as a story telling medium along with books and films so I am pretty sure I will still be playing them in my old age.  I don't plan giving up on films just because I get old and the same goes for video games.

You know it does seem insane to me I mean here I am trying to give these companies my money and they are refusing to take it,I thought that was their purpose but I guess not.  I just want to should "Shut up and take my Money!!!" when dealing with this anti piracy garbage.

I am talking about over my whole life time of buying games.  Look now adays to get the complete story for a game you have to buy the game it's self which runs between $60-$80 plus any DLC that is needed for the story to make complete sense so that can run you another $60 so in the end you can end up spending around $120-$140 on a single game so over my life time of buying games hundreds to a couple of thousand seems likely as I am only in my 20s right now so I have another five decades or so of buying games in front of me and prices are bound to either stay where they are or go up.

I am just saying treating your paying customers like crooks is a bad business move. After all if they are going to treat me like i stole the game I may as well steal the game and at least get to play it. Why should I pay that kind of cash for something that will not work.

As I said Origin was working fine before this update. it worked on my internet connection and it checked the game once when i installed it and then again when i installed new DLC. It was a perfect system for someone like me who just wanted to buy the game and play single player mode and now they have screwed that up and all of my games are worth less then stack of AOL discs to me.

You know what the ironic thing is?  That I would never think of stealing a game but now I have no choice. From now on if I want to play a game I will have to go to a friend's house and download a pirated version off of a torret site.  I would have never done anything like that before but since the version that I would be paying for will no longer work I will have to go with the pirated version.  In other words by punishing me for buying their games they have just made sure that I will never spend another cent on their products and they have lost hundreds if not thousands of dollars in sales because the only way for me to get a working copy is to pirate the games.

Good job EA,you just made the problem worse and turned a loyal customer into someone who hates your guts and will not buy your products any more not because I am too cheap to pay for them but because it I do pay for them they will not work.  Great job,you really took care of this problem.

The latest update to Origin has now fixed it so the system will only work with internet connections that are faster then you can get in my part of the country and every single time a game is started(And I am not talking about multiplayer just single player)it has to check to make sure your copy of the game isn't pirated. Well guess what since all the games I bought are on a computer in a location with a slow internet connection they can't confirm that they are not pirated.  We really need a law in this country that gives us the right to use products that we pay for.  I paid full price for these games and I should be able to play the single player modes on them.  Why in this country do we only punish those who have not committed a crime, why not get rid of all this nonsense and instead throw the pirates in jail.

Make the penalty for stealing a game life in prison without parole, stop punishing those of us who paid and instead throw the book at the people who commit the crimes so no one will ever dare commit the crime again.

I am so angry right now I can't even see straight. When did everything get so turned around so that those of us who obey the law are the ones who get punished?!!!:(

I like both versions.  I have to say there is something about the way Peter Jackson will take an action movie but make it in the style of an old school epic that I just like. I can't explain it to anyone who doesn't like his films, all i can say is I like enjoy them and I like both his and the 33 version of King Kong for different reasons.

It sure as heck isn't the "I want (insert name here) to die because I didn't like their movies" thread.

I still have shivers caused by that one loon we had around here several years ago, that repeatedly talked about burying a certain Star Wars director with a shovel. I'm not sure what else one could use to bury someone in that scenario, but they were always very specific on that point.

Yeah i just put him on ignore too.

Look I know where he is coming from. I am a huge Sherlock Holmes fan,I grew up reading the stories, listening to the radio shows, and watching films and series and I hate the RDjr films. To me they just are not Sherlock Holmes, but I don't wish death on anyone who made them. I don't even wish the films out of existence(As happy as that would make me)because I know some people do enjoy them,I just choose not to watch them myself.  Look if you don't like Jackson's take on middle earth that is fine with me(I personally love it and yes I know a lot of people don't like the Hobbit movies but I am enjoying them for what they are),you have every right to say you don't like them and explain why but when you start wishing death on the people who made them and excusing them of not even trying to make a good film I am afraid you have lost me.  No film is so bad someone should die for making it.

I love the LOTR film trilogy when it came out (and still kinda do), but in hindsight   Peter Jackson should of died of a massive coronary before he even shot a single frame of film. It's clear he never understood anything of Tolkien's work or themes; he's just some kiwi fuck who likes transformers-sequel action movies, and imposed the Final Solution on Middle Earth fans, and people have suffered endlessly since then. Hopefully Tolkien's estate will make sure this never happens again; these films are very like the ring of power itself. When the third Hobbitt film comes out, I'll have to throw my LOTR DVDs into the fire, and I'm a big fan of those movies!

Why is it that with every movie I like, everybody else will eventually hate it?

Wow,wishing death on someone so that he leaves his kids fatherless just because he made a movie you didn't like?  Tell me did he burn the books so you can no longer read them?  did Jackson put a gun to your head and force you to watch any of his movies? Here is something you may not know but I guess you need it explained to you, films are not books. if you want the book page for page go read the book. There are also a lot of worse things someone can do then making a movie you don't like.  If you go around wishing death on people for making a movie you don't like I would say you don't understand Tolkien because he would want nothing to do with a hate filled person like you.  Please stop reading the books and get a life outside of them, you have clearly lost your mind and all prospective.

Warning here be spoilers for the Marvel movie universe
Time

I decided to start this thread because there were a lot of complaints about spoilers in the other thread and I have trouble talking about episodes or movies without giving way spoilers.

Please only read this thread if you are up to date on the latest episodes and movies in the Marvel universe or you don't mind spoilers.

Okay here are my thoughts on the season final of Agents of Shield.

Now that is how you end a Season!  I have to say I have been getting a little tired of seeing Tv shows end with either teams broken up or it looking like everyone is going to die.  It was fresh and neat when it was done back when I was a kid with episodes like The best of Both Worlds, but lately it has started to feel tired and as if it is only being done because networks don't think we will tune in next year without a cliffhanger. I was very happy with this episode,it resolved all the major story points from this season while setting up next year's story points.

I loved ever second and I am so glad they didn't whitewash over what Ward did and it will be interesting to see what they do with Deathlock. Unlike Ward he knows that what he did was wrong so he is going to be wracked with guilt.

All in all I think that was my favorite hour of Tv this season and I can not wait for the next season.

I wonder if this means Nick Furry is out of the films for good or if we will see him again at some point.  I didn't pay attention to the credits so his showing up shocked me.  I am so glad Fitz was okay,as I said he and Simmons are my favorite characters.

Oh and was I the only one who was happy to see Coulson get his hands on the Lokibuster again(I can't think of a better name for that gun)?

Also seeing Geret trying to give Mike orders after Skye saved his son reminded me of Davros stupidly thinking the Daleks would still obey him at the end of Genesis of the Daleks, that was just a great moment.

I can't believe I have to wait for the fall to see the next episode, this sucks:)

Okay, they seem to be dropping hints that Fitz will not be in season two,I hope that isn't true and that they let the character recover because he was my favorite.  It can be as long and painful as the writers want as long as they have him in the show and just don't drop him.  If he is in season two i hope that don't pull this thing of having him tell Simmons how he feels and then have him not remember it due to brain damage.  That always bugs me when they do that one Tv. What is the point of showing an event if you are going to use brain damage or time travel to have everyone act like it didn't happen. Revelations like that should have some impact on the characters and their stories,if the writers don't want to play them out that is fine but then they shouldn't write them into the show in the first place.

Any way I just wanted to say that is my biggest worry about season two, that my favorite character will not be in it.  I can't believe I have to wait until the fall to see what is going to happen.

What did you think of the season final or anything else in the Marvel movie universe?

Video Games - a general discussion thread

The Kinet was never going to work in the real world for the vast majority of games and it takes up space that I don't have in my living room so I for one am glad to see the back of it.  Also I don't see why people should have to have highspeed internet in order to play games on their console that they paid for. You see I like ten percent of the country live in an area where there are no highspeed lines and that whole satilite based internet thing costs too much money and doesn't work for gaming(I know because I tried it)so I am glad to see Microsoft getting rid of that too.

Look the new systems have only been out for a year and I don't see anything wrong with them being more powerful versions of what came before after all no one complained about the 360 and Ps3 just being more powerful versions of the Xbox and Ps2 and people still love the SNES despite the fact that it was just a more powerful version of the NES.

It's the games that should matter not having the fastest internet or letting a company spy on you with a camera that you don't have room for.  As someone who was going to have to go with a PS4 despite liking the 360 better then the Ps3 I am very happy with this turn of events.  As i said I am a huge fan of Fable and I am glad I will not have to sit the next game out.

If everyone was doing what Jack says the series would be called "12".

As for this, I was referring to how Navarro chides Ritter about listening to Morgan because she's the best at her job. And then turns around and completely dismisses all the warnings from her about Bauer. Even going so far as dismissing her and having her escorted off the premises.

He's either the most incompetent leader ever or a double agent.

Oh come on,don't be silly.  Captain Archer from Enterprise with his wonder mutt who pees on sacred trees still has him beat.

Also he could be both:)

I think Jack may have just destroyed any chance Heller has of getting that base(and that is fine by me,the last thing the world needs is another drone base snuffing out anyone the government doesn't like)I mean i don't see the British being in a very understanding mood once the media fills with unconfirmed reports that American guards fired on British protesters.

Oh and we got more Steven Fry in this episode, that is always a good thing.

Hooray for renewal and spin off! I wonder how they're going to use "Agent Carter". I'm imagining it more of just a secret agent show, because being a prequel they can't have men of iron or alien artifacts. "Agents of SHIELD" shows us what needs to happen in a post-alien-invasion world and how they need to try to contain those with powers/technology. The only weird things "Agent Carter" will have seen is two super soldiers who both went down in a plane years before.
If they set in in the cold war maybe the first season will have then racing to beat the Russians to all the Hydra tech, after that I am not sure.  Still there was a lot of tension in that era that they could exploit for story lines.  It will be interesting to see what they do with it.

I like that. I keep imagining it'll be Carter worried about Hydra in SHIELD, but if she had suspicions like that back then, she would NOT still be alive in 2014.

Yeah i hope they don't go that route.  Still as I said I think they have done a good job so far. If the only things I can complain about are one movie and a couple of scenes in a Tv show I think they have a pretty good track record,so i have faith it will turn out good.
