Anyways, there seems to be "bullying" coming from only one participant in this thread.  If telling other people that they should make sweet love to themselves (feat. expletives) is still considered bullying.

Which seems to be a rather silly overreaction to hearing opposing views in a thread he started to discuss a topic.

*shrug*

Sorry but you pissed me off.

Oh dear!  By all means then, you are free to treat me however you wish without judgment.

When I get pissed, I tend to loss my temper.

Okay see I think here is the problem. That is all every bully I have ever dealt with in my life is guilty of, they are upset about something so they take it out on those around them.

I think the real divide here is in how bullies are viewed. Some of us view them as troubled and not doing anything that any kid could end up doing. Others seem to view them as just monsters who need to be locked up and shouldn't be treated as members of the human race.

Also I don't think education will work since I am pretty sure every bully knows they are doing the wrong thing already.  I don't see how that will stop them.

Now requiring parents to stay home with their kids or have them watched by another adult and sending both the kid and the adult who was supposed to be watching them to prison if the kid acts out, that would work. Do you really think parents would let their kids bully other kids if they could be sent to prison for five years if their kid did it?  I don't.

I did assume Sony devices wouldn't support it because of the Microsoft/NTFS association though. The most reasonable thing for everyone to do is buy an Oppo.

My Sony BDP-S790 supports NTFS.

My Philips Bluray player does too, the only problem is that it only reads drives up to 2TBs in size so there is a limit to how many films and TV shows I can back up and watch on it.

Also Western digital makes some very good devices that all support NTFS.

Yeah a a decaying corps give off a much better vibe.

Then again Peter died on an upside down cross, so how that became an anti-Christian thing I have no idea.

History and people are strange and not logical.

Also all I know is that my area reminds me of a modern day version of the towns from the book series that started with Little House in the big Woods, so I always compare it to the 1800s. At least it feels that way when the phones stops working for days at a time:)

Also for the record, DrCrow, I'm sorry I used to the word excellent to you, and I'm sorry that I could not read your mind and understand the rest of the story that you didn't bother mentioning that would have influenced me to not use the word.  It's my fault really, my telepathy has gotten a bit rusty.  It's understandable to ignore somebody and say they want to destroy all christians when they use the word "excellent", especially when in context of a story they only have the least important part of.

Sorry I should have put that part in it.

Maybe it is different in other places but here in our small towns the churches are really the center of the communities and where a lot of groups gather and they really are the public meeting places.  I know that makes it sound like the 1850s but that is what it is like in the small towns around here so even with out the deaths burning down three churches really is an attack on everyone. I should have explained that too.

Sorry I got so mad, I shouldn't have it was not the Christian thing to do.

Look I am sorry for how I have acted in the past and I know this just sounds like an excuse but there were times in the past where I had no real control over what I thought said or did, but I am on my meds now and getting treatment but one thing I have learned is that I have to take one day at a time and not let the past control my present, that is what led me to try suicide as an answer to my problems.

....

Sorry I have upset so many people.

 Fair enough and thanks.

Sorry I called you a bully.  I over reacted. Ever since I was a kid I have always had trouble telling when people are teasing me or joking so some times I take that stuff the wrong way.

Sorry.

Here is the thing I was just trying to come up with an idea for taking care of bullies(even though I am still not sure it is something the government needs to be involved in)and I think the only way to do that is to change the culture so I am trying to come up with some ideas on how to do that.

The problem is I have looked online and in this very thread and I have yet to find a detailed plan for how to deal with bullies. I mean I find plenty of people saying how bad they are but no real plan. If you don't have a plan of action sitting around and talking about them just doesn't seem very productive to me so I was just trying to come up with some sort of plan.  The point was to have it debated so we could come up with some real solutions.  It was supposed to be the starting point, not the end all be all.

Sorry I have upset so many people.

I think they used a dancer for some of the scenes when he's in the suit, Keaton didn't wear it for the whole movie. Also, the neck was made of stiff rubber, so he couldn't turn his head.

Yeah and the suit weighed in a whopping 85 pounds when all the gear was on it, you try moving normally with 85 pounds of rubber on top of you.

I have to say I love the Burton movies because they just have a look and feel to them that no other film has and Keaton is my second favorite Batman after Kevin Conroy on BTAS. Oh and I really like Elfman's music too.

Hey I am just spitballing ideas here.

I mean I have heard for year that bullying is the worst thing ever and needs to be stopped but I have yet to hear a plan for stopping it that sounds like it would work.

You have to admit that if we stopped telling kids that being a bully solves problems then maybe they would stop being bullies.

Also if we punished parents for failing to control their kids then maybe there would be fewer out of control kids around.

People are worried about if they throw out the current script that they won't get a new one in time to start shooting for a 2016 release. I'm pretty sure that every writer in Hollywood has a Trek spec script, and if they didn't, they've written one since Friday.

My co-host and I talk about our thoughts on this whole business in next week's podcast. I'll post a link when it's up.

Yeah and don't forget the basic outline for the script to Star Trek six came together in a single two hour meeting, and the script for Star Trek two was completely rewritten in three weeks. So good scripts can be written fast, you just need good writers.  I think Paramount should turn to someone with more of a TV background since TV writers are used to banging out or rewriting scripts very quickly.

Thank GOD Orci is out.

The man has written dreck... sometimes made watchable by a) talented directors or b) already being a beloved franchise with lots of good will built in.

He can take his nonsensical 9/11 theories elsewhere thank you. (Seriously, look at STID! He cant make his conspiracy theories make sense when he writes the whole thing himself!)

Here are some directors I'd love to see at the helm.

Danny Boyle

Cary Fukunaga

Pete Travis

Lexi Alexander

Joe Johnston

Joseph Kosinski

I didn't think of him before but now that I do it seems all of Joe Johnston's films have an upbeat world view while still giving the heroes big problems to solve and the heroes have a strong moral core. That is the very heart of Star Trek right there, if he were giving creative control I would take that as a sign Paramount wanted to get back to the heart and soul of Star Trek.

I really like that idea, good choice.

One thing that could be done is stop the glorification of violence in media so that kids will learn that it is never the answer to a problem and then maybe bullying would not be seen as cool. Right now pretty much all of our culture's heroes are bullies, they insult people and use violence to solve all their problems, so of course kids think being a bully is cool.  If you really want to stop bullying here is something that could be done.

First ban all songs with violent or insulting words from the radio.

Second ban all shows that have the heroes insulting other characters, using violence to solve problems, or portray the police, military, or gangs in a positive light from broadcast TV.

Third ban the sale of all video games that have any violence in them to anyone under 21.

Forth any movie that features violence, insults, or positive portrayals of the police, military, or gangs should be given an NC17 rating.

Fifth ban the sale of all books that feature any of the above things to anyone under 21.

A good first step to stop bullying is to stop sending kids the message that it is in any way cool or that it is an effective way to solve problems. Combine these steps with with stiff prison terms for the parents of bullies then we may stand a chance of stamping it out.

The one and only time I watched Being John Malkovich, I absolutely hated it. Honestly, was I supposed to sympathize with the manipulative bitch and the suddenly-lesbian Diaz? If so, it didn't happen -- in fact, I felt nothing but contempt for those two characters by the end of the film.

I suppose I should re-watch the movie, though, just to see whether or not I viewed the movie through the wrong eyes the first time around, so to speak.

Yeah, I once saw that movie on HBO or Showtime or one of those stations and I didn't like it either. It seemed to be one of those movies that was so full of it's self for being "deep" that it forgot to have any kind of a point beyond a bunch of Hollywood people trying to prove they were deep artists.

I like artistic films but they still have to have a point and I didn't care for this one, one bit.

I never plan to watch it again.

The Usual Suspects

Good night this is a good movie, I can't believe I never saw it before! I don't want to give anything away but let's just say everything about it reminds me of the best films of the 70s. In an age where every movie is now about special effects and bloodless action scenes a smart, gritty, intense, actor driven movie like this comes like a breath of fresh air. Why don't they make movies like this any more?

10/10

Fargo.

Every time I see this movie I laugh but then I feel bad for laughing. There really isn't another movie like this. Oh and extra kudos to this movie for having a female hero who looks like a real woman and has real problems. I mean it is so rare to see a female hero who doesn't look like a super model and who doesn't have soap opera type problems. Here she is a real person and while she is tempted to cheap for about five minutes she doesn't and she doesn't blow the problems she has with her husband out of all proportion and do any of the typical Hollywood stuff like yell at him or leave him without telling him why, I am always blown away by that. I mean here is a comedy that ends with someone in a wood chipper and yet it also contains one the sweetest and most real adult relationships I have ever seen on film, now that takes talent to pull off as a writer and a film maker.

10/10

I agree. I certainly don't want to see it become illegal to insult people, or something dumb like that, because it limits free speech and also is so open to interpretation that all sorts of trouble would come from it. That is not something that any government should be involved in, so we need to watch how we deal with this problem. The truth is that there is no one solution to bullying, but we often try to treat it as if there were. It is something that ought to ideally be addressed case by case, on a personal basis. Unfortunately, that often isn't possible.

Yeah sadly I think that is true and where the danger lays because it always seems like we get into trouble when we try to find one answer to a problem as broad as this one.

Just to be clear I don't think bullying should be swept under the rug, when I was kid one of the reasons I was picked on was I would stand up for other kids that were being picked on. I just don't think that there is one solution to the problem and that we have to be careful. I also don't believe it does as much damage as we give it credit for if it is handled right and sadly there will always be bullies so to a certain extend kids have to learn how to deal with them when no one else is around.

Bringing in someone who's actually directed a Trek movie or two would be a smart move. (Paging Mr. Frakes!) They probably won't of course. ;)

Yeah him or Robert Ducan Mcneal would be my first choice since they both know the franchise and really good directors who know how to work with actors.

At any rate this is the first good news I have heard about this movie and it will be interesting to see who steps in now.
