I wish there was a site like Youtube that would respect fair use and not ban people for using it.

I would like to post some review of movies and video games and episodes of Tv shows I have watched lately but it is hard to do something like that without using clips, and that gets you banned on youtube these days.

Why can't rights holders understand that even bad reviews can still generate sales for them since some people will want to see how bad the thing is.

This is just sad if you ask me:(

Yeah that comes from growing up watching old movies and British Tv shows. I grew up thinking the heroes in those sort of things looked cool and I loved the way someone like John Steed could just brush himself off and walk away after a fight scene so as soon as I was allowed to choose my own clothes that is how I dressed myself.

It's funny looking at old family photos because when I am a kid I am dressed in typical 80s and 90s clothes and then around age ten I seem to jump back in time about 40s years! :)  What can I say? it works for me.

Well then I guess i will give this series a shot if I can find a copy, it sounds like something I would enjoy.

I always thought we were supposed to enjoy seeing Blackadder's plans fall apart and the only reason we cared about him at all was that the deck is so stacked against him in most episodes that we can root for him to overcome it while not liking him as a person.

I don't know what is wrong with me since I grew up on British Sitcoms but for some reason the UK version of The Office puts me to sleep and in general I just can't stand RG, sorry.

Well here is the thing when that brand of humor works in other thing the person being rude is the butt of the jokes and the joke is that the person thinks so highly of himself when really he is just a jerk and everyone knows it. Look at shows like Fawlty Towers or Blackadder for how I like seeing this sort of thing done, he seems to just insult people and the joke doesn't go any farther then that and je seems to really think that highly of himself in real life.

As for what I have been watching, well thanks to METV I have been seeing episodes of The Carol Burnett Show. I had only seen bits and pieces of it before and I have to say it is brilliant. The way she is able to think on her feet when talking to the studio audience is something I really admire and reminds me of Groucho Marx.  I think my favorite episode so far is the one with the Gone with the Wind skit but that just may be because I am the only person on the planet who didn't like that movie. Any way this show is brilliant and still stands up, I love it.

Are we 100% sure that guy is not Clint Howard?!

Oh and Ricky Gervais being rude to and bullying anyone who isn't him and calling anyone who isn't an upper class British person like him an idiot, colour me surprised.

Seriously I do not get why this guy is so popular, his humor is nothing more then running up to people and being rude to them and then following it with an awkward pause.  The American version of the office may have gone on for way too long and become a soap opera but at least I could sit through an episode and I didn't get the feeling that the makers hated everyone one the planet and would like nothing better then to watch me and everyone get torn limb from limb by rabid rats.  Seriously I do not understand how a guy who seems to hate everyone can be the most popular person on the planet at the moment, every time i see his smug hate filled face I just want to punch it.

I hear you, I will keep my own cannon for all thing and in that cannon Spock doesn't end up in a alternate universe in Star Trek, Peter Parker and Marry Jane are still married and their daughter is Spider-Girl, The Doctor is not half human, Data didn't die in a stupid suicide mission when they could have just set the phaser overload and used the transporter, if I like a Star Wars book it happened no matter what Disney says, Ripley and Newt made it back to earth safe and sound, and Shepard destroyed the Reapers with out killing a bunch of other people and lived.

FUCK OFFICIAL CANNON, MINE IS BETTER!!!

Yeah it was kind of hard to read but yes it was original notes from the costume designer about fittings and colours and that sort of thing, I wish i could remember the exact words but my camera is a cheap $30 model and it was behind glass.

I have to say it was really cool seeing that stuff, I have been watching that movie since I was a kid and the matt painting in particular was really cool.

I just couldn't believe they had that stuff there.

May have been I never read a lot of the books because getting into them seemed like such a chore, i am sure there are some ones that are very well written but I would have had to buy them and there were just so many and I couldn't ever work out where to start, Plus when i was a kid I would rather spend my money on VHS tapes of the shows and movies.

Scenes in movies that look better panned and scanned...
Time

I have to say from an early age I learned to hate pan and scan in pretty much every case once I figured out why I was having trouble seeing what people were pointing at in movie, or why important text was incomplete onscreen.

That being said I wish modern movies that try to recreate the look of movies from the 40s or the 50s would use fullscreen since when they get everything else right it is just distracting to see them in widescreen. When everything else looks like it from a period film why not complete the look with the aspect ratio?

Well here is my pitch for what could be done.

I would get back to basics while playing with what has been set up. The setting of the show would be the brand new Enterprise F,it's first mission would be to explore. The show would be set ten years after the Domian war and the war would be set up in flashback through out the season for viewers who didn't see DS9. The Federation and Romulans would be the only strong powers left and expanding all over the place. For political reasons the Federation has decided that the flag ship needs to go on a mission of exploration into the Gamma Quadrant, which is mostly still unknown to the Federation and may be important if a war breaks out with the Romulans. There is just one problem the war wiped out most of Starfleet's captains who are trained in deplomats and explores, pretty much all of the officers came up through the ranks in the war and have the mindset of combat troops seeing everything as a threat plus they will have to get along with races they were fighting in the war,the central question will be how do you ask these people to move from a war mindset to a mission of peace. The Captain would not really be trusted by the crew because he went down in disgrace in the war. He is chosen for this mission because he is one of the few high ranking officers who is a trained diplomant and explorer, since he came up through the ranks before the war. He was respected enough at the time that he was given command of a group of ships in the opening days of the war but he was not a good combat officer and he fell for a trap everyone else saw coming and lost all the ships under his command,so he has been grounded since but now Starfleet turns to him because he is the only respected explorer they have left after the war but the crew being veterans of that war and going into their former enemy's space does not trust him so he has to prove himself to the crew and he has his hands full.

When they get to the Gamma Quadrant they take on a Vorta advisor to help them in their mission and needless to say this doesn't sit well with the crew and to make matters worse he or she wants to be helpful and over the course of the first few episodes the Captain comes to like him or her and this doesn't sit well with the crew. What is more since the Dominion is gone and it was the only form of government most of the Gamma Quadrant knew for thousands of years the whole place is in chaso with some planets at war with each other and others starving and some that have just dropped out of contact with the rest of the galaxy. So while exploring the Captain's skills as a diplomat are put to the test solving the bigger problems that have been thrust into his lap,he gets little help from Starfleet since his mission is viewed by command as mostly PR to prove the Federation is not an Empire like the Romulans but the fact is command is too busy trying to out flank the Romulan empire to care much about one ship in this far off sector of space.

Episodes would be split between exploring, dealing with character's personal issues left over from the war, finding peaceful solutions to the problems of the Gamma quadrant, and dealing with the rising tensions with the Romulans.

I think there is scope for new Star trek on Tv it's just we need network executives who can see it.

The best movie about killing witches and stealing their stuff ever! Good thing nobody in Oz will ever press charges.

The "it was all a dream, and you have a severe concussion" ending still ticks me off though. Even as a kid, I felt it was a cop out. (It's not a dream in the books.) Not to mention unless Miss Gulch died in the twister, she's going to be coming back for poor Toto...

Really? I always felt that it was left more ambiguous. Like no one believed her but she actually did go to Oz. I do hope that Miss Gulch died a horrible death by getting sucked into the tornado and Dorothy never had to deal with her again.

I think the liner notes to the 50th anniversary release stated it was a dream vs. it really happened in the book. (It could always be wrong.) Unless returning to Kansas involved time travel, Dorothy doesn't seem to have been gone very long. The time spent in Oz seems like it was a few days at least.

Miss Gulch may have had a legitimate gripe, but she comes off as an unpleasant person at best. Auntie Em actually wants to swear at her. Uncle Henry should have at least offered to pay damages to defuse the situation, but then we probably wouldn't have a movie.

In the meantime, where the heck did the Scarecrow get a gun? Forget the hanging munchkin, this is the real mystery!

Yeah that could have gone a long way towards smoothing things over.

I guess there are gun shots in Oz, the real question is why didn't he use the gun on the flying monkeys?

How come the D-Pads on all modern gaming systems suck?

The NES and Super NES D-Pads were perfect, why can't modern systems just copy those and stop trying to fix something that was never broken in the first place?!

The ps3 isn't bad probably because it's separate buttons. But yeah SNES for the win.  I used to have an adaptor that would allow me to plug my snes controller into the usb port of a computer and play PC games (who am I kidding... emulators :P) with a snes controller.  When I sold it I called myself such terrible names afterward that I had to report myself to management for harassment.

I used to have one of those things, it was the best!

Then my kid sister's stupid rabbit chewed it to bits.

Yeah the Playstation one isn't bad but the SNES D-Pad feels the best when I am playing for a long time. I wish all systems would just copy that.

We see the dog chase her and the way Toto acts around her is exactly how dogs act before they attack people and given that they refuse to put him on a leash they can't claim to know one way or the other.  Dorthy says Toto was doing it again that implies that he had destroyed Gulch's flowers before and they refused to put him on a leash.  I am just telling that once you have complaints like that any animal control officer would have taken that dog away.  Was putting him on a leash really too much to ask?

Why does a dog have the right to destroy people's property, because it is cute????  Under that logic we don't have the right to set up mouse traps in our homes.  Sorry but I just don't see how Gultch was in the wrong or deserved to die.  Dorthy was just a spoiled brat that should not have had a dog in the first place if she wasn't going to control it.

I am not sure I would say smarter because there is some pretty dumb stuff but they were at least trying to tell stories about Sci-fi concepts and dealing with moral problems in space, so they get marks from me for that even when it didn't work and we got "a night in sickbay" which is the worst thing to ever be labeled Star trek.

Still they sometimes had good idea that worked or would have worked if the network had not gotten in the way. Braga wanted Year of Hell to take up a whole season of the show and leave Voyager weaker then it had been before with a smaller crew so in future episode Janeway would have to make more treaties and bring new aliens on to the ship to make up for the lost crewmen, he also wanted to ditch the replicators so Voyager would be forced to look for supplies more. In other words he wanted to do BSG seven years before it turned up on tv but the network said no and changed it into a two parter that featured the reset button being hit at the end. So not all the problems were the fault of Berman and Braga.  in fact it is looking more and more like Paramount are the ones without a clue and they need to stop messing with Star Trek before they completely destroy it.
