The Place to Go for Emotional Support

Sometimes my life is pure hell. Why do I have such a sociopathic individual for a father? It's his conservatism, his belief that government is always bad people should be personally responsible for their actions and not live on welfare, his belief that climate change is a hoax, his religious extremism, his fucking Amway business (seriously one of the worst things to happen to me is when he joined that goddamn pyramid scheme), the fact that my mother blindly agrees with nearly everything he says, the fact that I make so fucking little at work and everyone is over 50 and I can't make friends, that the rest of my family are a bunch of right wing nutcases who agree with each other, or the misfortune of being catholic and living at home with little hope of affording an apartment because housing prices are so ridiculously fucking high in a shithole run by arrogant hippies who should all fucking die. i would be 60 pounds lighter and not be a loner basement virgin if I wasn't forced into Catholic schools because my parents were so paranoid about me being indoctrinated by the public school system, and who gang up on me whenever I disagree with them on political issues. I fucking hate them. I  sometimes wish they were dead so I can go on with my life feel better about myself. Someone help me.

Dear general,

Your frustrations certainly can be understood and your wounds are real so let us not trivialize them, but kindly consider: if your parents were to die it would then be your responsibility to cover all expenses. At the very least it might require you to work harder. Please find some moment, memory, or happenstance in your life during which you did not have such negative feelings towards them and try to bring this event to light during times of stress and despair.

As for virginity, Catholicism, weight issues, and living arrangements: be of good cheer that all of these issues are curable--but only once you claim responsibility for yourself. Work on the weight issue by eating properly and exercising more. You will feel better about yourself and be better able to meet women.

Since you are already miserably Catholic, you may as well take advantage of such a thing by joining a youth/young adults group where likely there are 3 girls for every boy. Dress up for the occasion and be upbeat and kind.

For the living arrangement scenario, consider only that it is typically not about how much you earn, but how little you spend. Save your money with a view of purchasing a place instead of renting. Mortgage payments are typically lower than rent and provide a forced savings that typically also appreciates.

Regards,

Praetorian

I hate my religion, but I can't leave because my parents would never approve of me being not religious. Even if I met girls at a youth group (at nearly 30), I would have to marry them just to get laid and have to go directly to parenthood. That's not realistic for anyone unless you're a religious nut.

 Really?

Because I know tons of people who have done just that and who I wouldn't call nuts at all.

I know how you feel and I have been there.  If you are having thoughts about harming your family seek help now, either from a professional or someone at your church.

I would advise you to read your bible and pray by yourself on your own when you have these thoughts as well.

Also one of the reasons you may be having problems is that you are only looking at woman as a way to have sex, don't do that.  You will have a much better time of it and be less lonely if you just go somewhere and get to know someone without it just being for the goal of having sex.  Maybe show some respect for the woman around you who are choosing not to have sex outside of marriage and not to use birth control, that is a huge burden they are taking on their part and since we live in a country were respect a woman's choice is carried to the extreme of allowing abortion then surly this choice should also be respected.  If you show some respect and don't look at them as sex objects then you will have better luck.  If you are just looking for sex with out a relationship then saving up your money and getting a motel room and hooker seems like a better option then pretending to like a woman you really despise just to get into bed any more so you are no longer a virgin.

I know how you feel because I am in the same boat and I know how hard this can be to hear but please seek help soon before you harm one of the people who you are lashing out at.

I will be praying for you.

Video Games - a general discussion thread
Time

http://gamerant.com/simcity-sims-maxis-history-studio-close/

Today is a very sad day. Maxis was one of the all time great game makers and once again as in so many other cases EA has destroyed them with their greed. The last Sim City failed because EA released an unfinished game and used it as a platform to sell DLC instead of releasing a good game. Sim City 2000 and 3000 are two of my favorite games of all time and I have no idea how many hours I spent playing them back in the 90s, what is more they still hold up today. EA has now destroyed the three developers who's products I spent the most time playing when I was a kid, Origin, Westwood, and now Maxis.

This is a very sad day, but at least the old games are still out there, on the used market to play.

Thanks for all the good times and great products Maxis, you will be missed.

Favorite Deleted Scenes from Movies

I think the film is pretty much perfect and most of the stuff added in the director's cut was not needed but I really wish the scene that made it clear Preston was Scotty's sister's son had been left in Wrath of Khan.  I knew what was going on because I read ever Star trek book I could get a hold of including the novel(which was pretty good), but I know a lot of people are confused by Scotty's relationship with him.

This may not be the same thing but it still feels like it was needed.  This was never filmed but the novel of Wrath of Khan was based on an early draft of the screenplay and from what I remember(it has been years since I read it so forgive me if I don't get all of the details right)it explains that Preston had been friendly with Savik and didn't judge her for being half Romulan and he had a crush on her that Savik kind of returned and kind of just found silly, but she never did anything about it, I wish that scene had been filmed and included in the movie.  Why?  because it explains Savik's cursing and the fact that see cried when she saw Preston's broken body. I also believe it explains why Scotty brought him to the bridge instead of sickbay.  In the movie Scotty just looks like an idiot but in the novel Preston asked to be taken to the bridge so he could say goodbye to Savik since he was her only friend on the ship.  I really wish this had been filmed and included.

I realize this is a little silly and petty and I am the only person on earth who cars about this but it bugs me so I am talking about this.

I like playing video games on my TV and I prefer not to have to install games on my PC if I can avoid it, but with my movement disorder I find it much easier to control games with a keyboard and mouse.  Now all the modern video game systems come with a hard drive and USB ports and they run off of stripped down versions of PC OSes so is there any reason why I can't just plug in a USB keyboard and mouse?

I mean I know I am in a small group but I really wish I could play console games with a keyboard or mouse.  Right now I tend to pick the PC version only because of the controls.  I wouldn't care about this so much but it seems like it is such an easy feature to include so I just don't understand why it isn't included.

Maybe I am just an old stick in the mud but I would love to play the latest Halo with a Keyboard and Mouse.

Oh can I just add the secret marriage plot.  This happens more often on Tv then it does on film but it does happen alot and every time it does I roll my eyes.

It goes like this when a main character is about to get married they then find out that oops they are already married to a character we have never seen before and they didn't even know it.  it's never that shocking because it has been done so many times and it just makes the character look stupid.  You would think at the very least they would have figured it out when the IRS got on them for filing their taxes wrong.

I think this may be the dumbest cliche I can think of it.  if there is one out there that is more stupid I do not want to know what it is.

 Stop watching Lifetime movies.

See that's the trouble with being stuck living at home, every time my mom watches something I either have to hear about what happened or see it myself.  I just wish they would drop this kind of garbage once and for all.

Superhero films would be improved a thousandfold if only they'd stop having each and every plot revolve around some large-scale, city-or-world spanning crisis. Smaller, low-key storylines have worked well for the comics, so why can't they work just as well for the movies?

Why can't Batman just go after a gimmickless serial killer who stalks high school cheerleaders instead of some world-spanning terrorist organization trying to blow up Gotham? Why can't Spider-Man just try to help a poor woman escape prostitution and her abusive pimp instead of trading punches with Doctor Octopus or the Green Goblin? Why can't Superman just travel to some out-of-the-way town and put some corrupt oil tycoon and his thugs in their place instead of stopping rogue Kryptonians from conquering the planet? And the list goes on ...

Yeah I would love seeing all of that done, that is one reason I liked the first season of Agents of Shield better then this season, I was getting tired of all of the episode stuff in the MCU.  The thing that made everyone hate Agents of Shield was what I liked about it, I liked the fact that it was small stories that just happened to take place in the MCU and that all of the people on the team were normal people without Super powers.  Now that the show has gone all epic and Sky is a "choosen one" with super powers the show has lost a lot of it's appeal for me and it is just another epic action show where the whole world is at stake every week.

I know I am alone in this but that is how I feel.  For the past decade or so every TV show and movie has been doing epic end of the world type stuff with chosen ones and I am burnt out on it.

Well i remember watching it on and off when it first aired and liking it so I have started working my way through the series Alias on DvD and I have been enjoying it but that has come to a stop because of the stupid copy protection on the discs.

I got to the end of season one and then found that none of the DvDs for season two will play or even be read by any of my DvD players or computers.  I have tried several copies that are all in perfect shape and none of them will play on any DvD player or drive.  i have not been able to find much about this online but what I could find indicates that this is a case of Disney putting such strict copy protection on the discs that nothing can read them.

How is that even legal?  I mean if you pay money for a disc with the DvD logo on it don't you have the right to expect it to work in your players that have the DvD logo on them?  So now not only am I out $20 for all of the copies I have tried but I can't ever see the rest of the show.

Garbage like this why piracy exists.  i will never pay money for another Disney product because I have no way of knowing if it will work and I can't afford to throw money away.  If you ask me this is fraud and I will not be a victim of it any more. Disney never gets another cent of my money as long as I live.

So was it worth it Disney?  You got $20 of my money but you lost the rest of it for life and I am not rooting for your little con job factory to go bankrupt.

Treating your costumers like crooks and cheating them is bad business in the long run, why can't companies see this?

Yeah me too.  One of the things that I don't like about the relaunch of Doctor Who is that they have added this element to the show by making him the last of the Timelords and a living legend that everyone seems to know about.  Don't get me wrong I love all Doctor Who but one of the things that really grabbed me about the old series was that The Doctor was always just an average member of his own race.  Some of the things he could do may seem amazing to us but whenever he interacted with his own people or other aliens it was clear that he was seen as average and he used that to his advantage but not seeming to be a threat. It also made him relateable. In most Sci-fi the heroes are either chosen ones or a hand picked team of the best of the best, in Doctor Who the heroes were just average people mostly thrown together by chance, The Doctor only finished Timelord high school on his second try and even then he only got by with a 51% average, he didn't even know his people's greatest enemy when he first met them. This was a complete inversion of what we normally see and it makes me sad that they undid it.

One of the big reasons I think the last two Spiderman movies failed is that unlike the first three they tried to add this chosen one stuck to Peter Parker's background by having the whole back story with Oscorp and Peter's parents instead of just making him an average guy who is only special because of what he chooses to do with his powers.  I think it came off as cliched and people couldn't relate to this Peter Parker as well as the last one.

I really hope this cliche dies in a ditch soon and we can get some movies about average people standing up.  It shouldn't be the hero's birth that makes him a hero or fate, it should be the choices he or she makes that makes them a hero.

One of the things that I think surprises some people is just how funny Nimoy could be and I think that helped him add depth to the character of Spock, he didn't fall into the trap so many characters of his type do of not being able to understand jokes. He may not have laughed but he knew when someone was making one and he could fire back at McCoy and that just gave the character a whole new level that went beyond him just being the stoic alien who didn't understand humans but was super smart.

Nimoy did enjoy comedy and could be a really funny guy. I remember in one of his books he said that he thought a lot of the best McCoy/Spock scene could be rewritten for Abet and Costello. He then proceeded to rewrite Who's on First for Spock and McCoy. I laughed really hard when I read that as a kid.

Yeah that is the only reason I am glad there is no highspeed where I live, my house can not be easily bugged.

Then again is life really worth living these days?  There is no freedom and the constant stress of trying to keep a job and make enough money to live gets combined with having to make sure you don't say the wrong thing.  Maybe the government death squad will be doing us all a favor when they show up to snuff us. Are the lives we have in the modern world really worth living in the first place?  I am not so sure any more.

I definitely agree. I think the patriot act should've just been named 1984, because that's exactly how it feels. Yes I can make money and buy things like cars and televisions, while my basic freedoms are melting away while I'm busy staring at a screen wondering why people think this dress is white, when I see blue.

Yeah why is that thing such a big deal?  I don't care what colour people see when they look at it.

I would rather have my freedom restored and not have to worry about the government dragging me off to a prison camp at some point, thank you very much.

People think I hate my country, but the fact is, I probably love it more than most Americans. My frustration is due to my love of this country. I'm not one of those guys that think the country needs to be like it used to. I think it should be better than it ever has been. The political party system is really what has corrupted the government. There is support no of policies, it's support of a party. You either pick a side or don't pick any.

I agree with some things from the democratic party as well as the republican party, but I have to choose one over the other? Sure, you could say to vote for the 3rd party, but that usually just screws it up for the better of the other 2 choices. It's like Ralph Nader, all he did was help get Bush into the White House by swinging democratic voters his way, of course corruption got Bush into the White House.

This country is turning into a beehive or an ant colony. I wonder how many "terrorist groups" or "cults" were actually small groups wanting to bring forth revolution, and were just swept under the rug as evil people, or nutjobs.

Yes, exactly.  This is why I didn't vote in the last two elections, neither party stands for anything other then power and they both carter to the extreme wings of the country to get it, so no matter who i vote for I would be supporting something I don't believe in.

What is a pro life person who believes in free enterprise but also believe business needs to be regulated in order not to let it get to powerful and who supports unions while also believing their most extreme demands should not be met while at the same time thinking we need to close down the border but also thinks the patriot act is a threat to our freedom supposed to do under the current system.  No matter who i vote for I will be supporting something I can't stand.  Since no one votes for issues any more once they are elected there us no one for me to vote for.

I told him that it was the law for me to be given breaks every so many hours of work with a lunch. He told me it didn't apply to me, because I was on contract. What is interesting was that a box for lunch was left empty on my time log, so I supposedly was allowed to get one.

The job is in Texas, and I think they probably get away with a lot of that shit, because our workforce isn't Texas workers, it's immigrant labor. I have nothing against our immigrant workforce, I find it ironic that the same people condemning them, are the ones who exploit them. The owner did say he had several businesses before including a lawn-care service and maid service. So I have a grasp on what kind of people he has under him.

I have no issues with hard work. I applied for the job, because it was physical.

Maybe I'll find my rhythm in life, right now I'm just taking chances and making a lot of bad decisions. My 20's are ebbing away pretty quick.

See this is the big problem with people just being allowed to cross the border and work off of the books, they not only hurt themselves but every other worker in America.  All the progress that has been made for workers since the end of the slave trade is being undone because businesses can just hire illegal immigrants. We are being returned to serfdom, pretty soon America is going to be a third world country where a few rich people work everyone else to death in labor camps.  There is no way to stop this as long as the border remains open or we let these people remain here and yet not have the same rights as everyone else.

The only solutions I can see to this problem are either make the penalty for knowingly hiring an illegal life in prison without parole so businesses will not risk it any more.

Shut down the border so the labor force that is undercutting the rights of our own citizens dries up(by the way many countries in Europe do this as does China, Canada, and even Mexico so if they complain or call us racist it is the pot calling the kettle black)and companies are forced to respect the basic human rights of their workers again.

Or pass a new law that declares that anyone who lives in the United States for more then a year becomes a citizen without having to file any paper work and these people then not only have to report their income and pay taxes to support the government like the rest of us but they have all of the rights the rest of us have too so they can no longer be exploited and used as a way to get around the basic legal rights of the work force of this country.

If something is not done soon this whole country will just become one giant slave labor camp where no one except a few people who are born rich will be allowed to do anything other then work 24/7 without rest or food until they drop dead in the gutter.

Right now in the United States there is no such thing as even the most basic human rights being respected, this has to change.

I got fired on my first day. First time that's ever happened. Supposedly you're not allowed to sit down during a break. It was a 13 hour shift, 30 some degrees, wet, and I was wearing dress clothes, because the owner of the place didn't bother to tell me that it wasn't going to be an orientation, and that I was going to be getting into the gritty work of power washing houses.

I bit my lip and took it most of the day, until about a few hours to the end of my day. I ended up doing most of the work on the last house, while the manager stood around and shot the shit with the owner of the house, while standing within 5 feet of me.

A while later, I was told that if I finished 4 sections of the driveway, I could take a break, and the manager would do 4 sections. I see he's off on his own somewhere, so I do six, just to keep busy. I see him come back, and he takes over. So I take the break I was told I could have. I grab my lunchbox and try to eat the lunch I was never told to have. I was in the truck for 2 minutes, and I hear screaming. I open up the door, and the guy was saying "I'm not gonna let you sit on your ass while I do all the work!" I give this man the look of death, and said "You told me I could have a break, what the fuck else was I gonna do on my break?" and he stumbled over his own pompous tongue "You could organize the fucking toolbox"....this being the toolbox this asshole threw cigarette packs and chip bags in. He continued "When my workers don't work, when I'm working, I call the owner, and tell him to fire their ass" I was fed up at that point. "Call him!", I didn't give a shit for once. I believe in hard work, but you can't win with people like this. So he grabs his cellphone and walks off. Keep in mind, I wasn't in my own vehicle during this job, as it was locked up in the storage unit where our equipment was held.

So I stood in the cold, my nice clothes ruined with bleach, and at the complete mercy of an asshole who fired me. I had to stand and watch him, so HE could drive me back to get my truck.

He not once looked at me, until the ride to the storage unit. He tried to play the whole thing off, like it wasn't as bad as all that. I wanted to hit him so hard, but I wanted to get in my vehicle and go home. I was done. He had the nerve to tell me what time to get started the next day, I laughed at him.

The owner later called and tried to get me to come back, but I knew I would always be at the mercy of a man like that. I couldn't stomach answering to a guy like that, so I declined. So I was fired, and quit all within the same 2 hours.

You may want to look up the labor laws in your state because all I know is that in Delaware the law requires your boss to give you a break on a shift that long and once you are on break they are not allowed to tell you what to do.  What is more in extreme heat or cold they have to let you get out of elements every few hours.

As i said I don't know what the laws are in your state but where I live you have the grounds for reporting the jerk to the department of labor and taking civil action against him.

Some how this makes it even more sad.

I was watching the news waiting for stuff like this. The best I heard was them saying Nimoy's last role was Star Trek 2009. Didn't hear one "Doctor Spock".

Naturally I'm currently halfway through rewatching Wrath of Khan.

I do have to say it would have been epic if he had been in Star Wars.

He invented the Vulcan salute and nerve pinch so he contributed to Star Trek beyond the fine job he did acting, writing, and directing.

This is such a sad day.  I think I will have to watch Voyage Home to cheer myself up. Wrath of Khan is too sad on a day like today.
