^Great suggestion!
^Great suggestion!
I don't think anyone has actually read the Hobbit. Archaeologists say it was lost long ago. Jackson's movies are probably the closest we'll ever get to knowing the true story, so I'm not sure why so many people are annoyed by it.

Great work, ady.
Yes the Falcon shot is very reminiscent of a few OT shots and definitely that one from ROTJ in particular. The one thing that is atypical about it is the upside-down-right-side-up flip, but who cares really, it's awesome.
JEDIT: Watching that clip, wow. Just wow. Having grown up with the film I tend to take the FX for granted. What they managed to do with practical effects for that scene is simply amazing.

Looks like the latest video for the UNICEF is online and it reveals a noticeably older Chewie! Unlike that image a while back we thought he'd look like (in there I didn't think he was "aged" enough), here his eyes look aged with more white around on his face, just like how an older dog would show age - I think he looks perfect now.

Please, please, please tell me there's someone here collecting all of this stuff: the teaser trailer (in HD); the UNICEF videos; the appearance on John Oliver; the leaked concept art.
If not, then can we get something going?
I'm collecting all the official-build-up-videos myself. The J.J teaser bits and bobs. Not sure if I'll both holding onto little bits like R2 getting hit with a Salmon though.
BTW: Does anybody know who this guy is...?
It's just that he's got the black unitard, the black eyeliner and coincidentally has the same Surrey accent and deep voice as Peter Mayhew. Makes me think he is the Chewie body-double.
...and IMO that costume actually looked like Chewie. Thank goodness!
Not sure why he needs the same voice?
He could be anyone's double really, though Chewie's a good guess.

So I went and saw the new Hobbit at my local full size IMAX.
Just from the first few notes I immediately knew the TFA teaser was starting. It looked GLORIOUS up on that six story tall screen. And it was in 3D! Which looked surprisingly naturalistic.
Same, same, same. Looked great...
But I think I'll catch the film in 2D first time I see it. That what Star Wars is.
But the 3D looks fine and I'll definitely see the film in IMAX second go round.
I told myself I wasn't going to go into this thread for fear of spoilers but you guys refuse to post in the other one and I need to talk about this movie so here goes.
I had also told myself I wasn't going to watch the teaser but I really couldn't help myself. Besides, I would have seen the images from it online anyway.
My thoughts on the trailer: it's great, I'm excited. I didn't get me super jacked the first time I saw it, but that's because the way it's edited, with all the cuts to black, really kills the momentum of it all. Also the voice over thing has been done to death.
But I'm seriously loving the stuff I'm seeing. Boyega a stormtrooper in the desert? Very cool. Ball droid? Strange, but cool (I assumed even before the names were revealed that he must be a semi-prominent character. Also I've always thought it was practical, rather obvious). Ridley on a speeder? Very cool. Stormtroopers? Awesome. Oscar Isaac an X-Wing pilot flying over a lake? Super awesome, my favorite part. Strange hooded guy in the woods with an unstable sword saber? Very interesting. Millennium Falcon? Obviously amazing.
I'm surprised so many people are saying this is typical Abrams and that it's going to look like JJ's Trek. These shots are actually for the most part atypical of him and quite reminiscent of Star Wars. The only outliers is the telephoto shots of the stormtroopers (and the editing there too, but I think that's just for the trailer - by the way a note on that scene, the coloring of it is obviously because of the lighting, no digital teal shift there, and the shaky cam is because of the shakiness of the vehicle they're in), and the Falcon follow, which is great and not totally out of place for Star Wars so I'll give it a pass.
It's hard to believe these are shots from Episode VII because it's still so hard to believe there even isn Episode VII. But there is, and I can't wait.
What has Frakes directed besides First Contact? Nothing good.
They need someone with JJ's energy. Edgar Wright would be the perfect choice times 10. But I think he's already working on another film. Joe Cornish would likely be the next best thing.
Let's just all be thankful Orci's out and hope his script is jettisoned into space never to be seen again.
Spectre is such an unsurprising title that it's actually a little surprising they really went with it. Still, it's cool (of course) and I like it. Very excited for the film, should be great considering the last outing and the new cast (Waltz especially).
Here's my ranking by the way:

The bummer for me is the 2001 vs Interstellar project I was working on with @DominicCobb. That was something I was excited about and will keep working on.. maybe create a thread on here in the 'other' section just to collect all the clips in one place? Lemme know what you think Dom.
Yeah, definitely open up a thread in "Fan Edits of Other Films" section. I never actually got to give that last clip you posted a proper watch, just skimmed through it. I have some thoughts off the top of my head but it'd be nice to really see it before I give notes.
By the way, this forum unfortunately does not have user tagging. This forum actually doesn't have a lot of things now that I think of it. But it's cool.
Goddam fanedit.org is broken.

Anyway,
Big Hero 6 (2014) - I actually saw this weeks ago. It's been awhile since I posted here. I thought this film was relatively good fun with some exciting sequences and laugh out loud moments. Unfortunately the story was pretty much crap and left a lot to be desired. I had quite a few issues with it but my main beef was that there were really no stakes whatsoever. Enjoyable, but could have been a lot better. B
Koyaanisqatsi (1982) - Wow, this is quite a film. Unlike anything I have ever seen before. Who could have guessed that a film with no story and no dialogue is actually really engaging? Brilliant cinematography and score. It sticks with you too, really making you think about the world we live in now. A must watch. A
Filth (2013) - A rather filthy film, though that shouldn't come as a surprise. The plot is... interesting. It's a good satire, though I could have done with some more laughs. It's well made, style is pretty good. The real treat here is James McAvoy, who gives a superb performance. B+
The Most Dangerous Game (1932) - Pretty cool movie. Nice concept and execution. Really short, though, like an hour long. Second act is practically nonexistent. Still, neat pic. B

Six Hasidic Jews out of eight.
I am offended by this because I can't understand the joke because I've never heard of that random ass movie before and I don't know the difference between a Hasidic Jew and a Normal Jew.
What is happening.

I watched the 2014 Godzilla yet again. This movie perplexes me. While calling it "terrible" would be inaccurate and illogical, for some reason I just really dislike the film. Other than the effects, I find everything else completely lackluster. While I'm not exactly a Godzilla fan, is there something I'm missing?
The plot and characters are pretty empty. I wasn't impressed either.
So they're playing the teaser in front of every movie at 30 different theaters across the county.
http://www.starwars.com/news/star-wars-the-force-awakens-tease-theater-list
One of them is in my city. So I guess if I'm going to the movies this weekend I'll have to avoid that theater.
Yes I am avoiding the trailer and spoilers and that is why I am bumping this thread in hopes we can have a discussion about Episode VII without having to worry about being spoiled.

To me it feels like the Francis Coppola/flashy older brother is more dominant than the father angle in Lucas stories (Milner, Han, Madmartigan, even QuiGon Jinn with Obiwan). Or maybe it just seems that way compared to Spielberg and his recurring parental issues.
You're probably right. Obi-Wan and Anakin is a good example. Even Lucas wasn't sure if he wanted to do a paternal or fraternal thing there.
Anakin in AOTC: "He's like my father."
Obi-Wan in ROTS: "You were my brother, Anakin."
Obviously there's stuff in between the two films that would theoretically change how they perceive each other, but these themes and their relationship were never fully developed.
The fact that were only hearing about this now, considerin how long it usually takes to make animated films, is very suspect. Add in the fact that it's being released in January and by Touchstone rather than Disney and that Lucas is producing it and the other behind the scenes guys have practically nothing to their names I think there's only one thing to deduce about his film: it will be shit.
