Han Solo Movie Spoiler Thread

All of these exhumations for new stories - from Creepy Puppet Yoda to CGI Tarkin to Nu-Jabba - were all flashing red lights indicating the need for new characters. Not that I have anything against bringing them back, but at some point it becomes easier to just write around them and give us something new instead of attempting to live up to unassailable performances of old.

I get what you’re saying, but there is something to creating continuity between the stories. In this case, Han and Jabba clearly have a history (with the character in the films always representing the world Solo came from). He doesn’t have to be in the film, of course, but if the story calls for it, why not?

Anyway, if we do get a puppet Jabba, that’d be a real sight to see.

I don’t think that Jeff Sessions having contact with Russia necessarily means anything nefarious was going on, but either way he committed perjury and he must step down.

I agree, though the fact that so many of Trump’s team have met with Russians secretly and lied about doing so is a little suspicious.

And regarding the Trump tweet;

It is so pathetic that the Dems have still not approved my full Cabinet.

That’s absurd. Trump has picked some of the worst possible people for his cabinet. Every single Democrat should be denying picks like Jeff Sessions (I’m looking at you, Joe Manchin).

And that’s without getting into the fact that the time it’s taking is completely normal (actually faster than normal), and there are still many positions for which he hasn’t yet nominated anyone.

What about Mark Twain and “Nigger Jim”? Does the simple use of the word make Twain racist, or is it more complicated than that?

Words change meaning and usage over time.

By 1880 the word was most definitely derogatory. Would you support its removal from the novel?

I’d be surprised if anyone on this site, of all places, would be okay with that type of revisionism, though I’ve always thought that the proposed “clean” version would be useful for schools where they might otherwise not read the book at all.

Also why am I getting involved in this discussion? I feel like I’ve been repeating myself for awhile.

These things always depend on the situation. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it if used in the proper context in a book or a film or such.

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Ric_Olié

Ric Olié first appeared as a supporting character in Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, where he was portrayed by Ralph Brown. Ric Olié is referred to by some fans as “Captain Obvious” due to dialogue that simply states well-observed facts, such as “There’s the blockade!,” “That’s it… Tatooine,” and “We didn’t hit it!”[3][4][5]

I believe he was calling you “Captain Obvious.”

I didn’t actually watch much of it, just was looking for the worst rap song I could find. Kind of surprised to hear they did that.

I think it’s at least so bad that it’s good. They don’t call Jesus their “er”, they’re referring to him as a “niBBa” endearingly, and even so, that’s part of the joke. The joke is that these out-of-touch old white people are saying “niBBa” the same way a young black rapper may say it.

“niBBa”?

ni🅱🅱a?

what?

Yes, it’s been derived from the word “ni🅱🅱a.” I don’t have any personal problems with using “n- - -a” (which is the word spoken in the video, not “n - - - er”) but I wanted to err on the side of caution.

I fail to see a significant difference between the word that ends in “gga” and the one that ends in “gger”. Sorry, but I don’t.

Context.

A white person using it is still rather questionable though.

Do you think Disney will release the unaltered versions for DVD and blue ray?

I think there was some discussion a while ago about the soundtrack releases, and I think the consensus was that it was unrelated.

Yeah. There’s a lot to that, but I think ultimately what’s important to remember is that those two things are up to entirely different people and depend on entirely different things.

So…you use both hands too?

If the cup is almost full then yes I may use two hands to keep it steady.

That’s interesting. Can’t say if I’ve ever seen that done before.

It’s not a resignation, unfortunately, but it’s better than the nothing that I expected from them.

It’s pretty strange, there are posters here with children and posters who are roughly the same age as those children. Wide range. Also does this mean Ric2 isn’t the youngest one here anymore?

I should just put my age in my signature so people stop being horrified that they have a 15 year old in the midst.

Isn’t your age already in your handle?

There’s also the fact that Sessions might have committed perjury during his confirmation hearing when he didn’t disclose his contact with Russian officials.

The Netflix DVD catalogue is far more extensive than their streaming, and titles don’t magically disappear, so it’s always growing. It’s also very profitable for them. No “still?!” about it. Plus, physical media will always be superior.

My “still?” was just a joke. I really liked the DVD service and only have streaming now just out of convenience.

It’s almost unfair to compare the two. They have practically everything you could ever think of on disc, while their streaming line up is subject to all sorts of liscensing.

I don’t know if I completely agree. For instance, they have a deal with Disney where they now get new movies shortly after the home video release date.

That’s very recent. So I guess you could say the quality ticked up very slightly from where I said things were previously.

Well maybe, I don’t know, I’ve never really noticed much of a difference in over all quality at any point (besides when it was first starting up and there was almost nothing worth watching at all). I don’t tend to look for specific things on streaming, more like browse to see what’s there that’s good (and to me there seems to be a fair amount).

Catfish (2010)

DVD arrived from Netflix yesterday. And yes, I still have the DVD service because their streaming catalog went to shit once they started paying for original content.

Netflix still offers DVDs? You sure you aren’t being catfished?

Seriously though, I do respect that. Their streaming offerings aren’t the worst, you can typically find a few good ones in there. But it definitely favors TV (which makes more sense to stream anyway).
