Thor: Ragnarok (2017)

A CONVERSATION BETWEEN MYSELF AND MARVEL®

INT. MARVEL STUDIOS BOARDROOM

MARVEL: “So we’re making another movie.”

ME: “Okay.”

MARVEL: “It’s kinda like Guardians because it’s a cosmic adventure.”

ME: “Go on.”

MARVEL: “It’ll have lots of synthesizer music.”

ME: “Yes.”

MARVEL: “And sets and costumes that look like they were ripped straight out of the pages of Jack Kirby’s work.”

ME: “O MY GOD, STOP PITCHING, YOU’VE MADE THE SALE!”

I run from the room, grinning from ear to ear. Marvel sighs.

MARVEL: “I probably should have told him that the characters and narrative are rather dull.”

Sounds like 98% of all MCU films I’ve seen to date.

But better.

JEDIT: coffee beat me to it.

Star Wars "Official" Canon Content Thread
Time

Finally finished the Aftermath series, and I must say in the end I liked it quite a bit, with Empire’s End easily being the best of the three.

I also finished the Phasma audiobook, which was pretty solid, and am just starting Bloodline, which I love so far.

I must say, they’ve done a pretty good job so far painting the broad strokes of the political transition from ROTJ to TFA thus far, especially considering as far as I know there’s basically a 20 year gap where no story has yet taken place.

I am really curious how much of this stuff is mapped out by the story group and how much is just determined by each individual writer. I’m especially curious, in this regard, about some of the stuff about Palpatine that is revealed in the Aftermath books. If we are to believe there is some larger force at work here behind these revelations, I have some speculations to make about potential developments in the future films

Like I said, this all depends on whether the filmmakers/story group have a say in this kind of stuff, otherwise forget it, but I feel like I have a fairly plausible prediction – so Palpatine was obsessed with the unknown regions of the galaxy, and the regions beyond the galaxy. He said there was an extreme dark force presence out there calling to him or something. Seems to me like it could very well be that Snoke is either an entity from outside the galaxy or an ancient Sith who left the galaxy and has now come back, and when the Imperial remnants regrouped in the unknown regions they made contact with him and that’s when he joined (and formed?) the First Order.

I could be late to the party with this or have already been disproven by something I haven’t read yet, but those were my thoughts anyway, when I read Empire’s End.

Bronies are weird. Sorry. If that’s judging them, so be it.

Why do you find them weird?

I kind of sped read through mfm’s response but that’s part of it for sure.

You also said you’ve seen the show and don’t like it, so it’s not a strange thing to say.

I think people who like the Big Bang Theory are weird. But thinking someone’s weird doesn’t mean they make you uncomfortable (necessarily).

Your question is probably more suited for chyron himself, something you acknowledged in the first part of your post.

JEDIT: Maybe your confusion stems from the fact that you think sexual orientation is the important distinction in your post, but chyron made it clear that gay and straight effeminate men make him uncomfortable.

I think it’s pretty dumb that a bunch of adults who enjoy Star Wars as much as we do, even going so far as to watch that which is geared towards children (i.e. the Ewok movies, CW 2003, TCW 2008, Rebels) feel justified in making fun of a guy for watching MLP.

Yeah but a grown dude watching MLP is weirder. This is nothing against chyron specifically, I just find the whole Brony thing very strange. I do not understand why they like a show that is aimed at little girls so much, and as I’ve said I’ve seen plenty of it so it’s not like I have an uninformed opinion of it.

FWIW I’ve never seen the Ewok movies, CW is fine but whatever, I’ve never seen Rebels, and I don’t even watch Star Wars that often.

For a guy who became upset with chyron for saying he personally struggled with effeminate and flamboyant homosexuals, why do you judge him for being a straight man who likes something girly? We can be accepting of all sorts of gay men, but a straight man must be manly or it’s creepy?

You’re asking the wrong person, look right there.

There’s a very thin shell that provides a very slight crunch. Eh.

It’s still way more crunchy than Skittles.

I didn’t realize that was part of the debate.

Okay, my point wasn’t well thought out. But, still, Frink’s point is just false. I’m not sure where he got the idea of a “slight crunch” from, but M&M’s are very crunchy in my experience. Also, like CHEWBAKAspelledwrong said, there is a distinct flavor to the chocolate of M&M’s. It’s not just your standard milk chocolate fare.

No, just your standard Hershey’s milk chocolate fare.

Making jokes that are racist and pedophilic and then ignoring a moderators request to remove em and stop doing it seems like a perfectly bannable offense to me.

JEDIT- he didn’t ignore the request at first, but then changed his mind and put it back to give a middle finger to the mods.
Sounds even more bannable to me.

I don’t have a problem with the banning, but making it permanent? Little odd.

Huh. I’m actually curious why you feel that way. I got no interest in the movie, but the Hulk has been a part of that world for decades.
Would you have interest in seeing it if the Hulk wasn’t in?

Yes. I like the whole Norse thing. Obviously it’s all silly and fictional, and maybe it plays better in the comics, and I haven’t seen the second movie, but I liked the first one and having something like the hulk in it just sounds like it would totally change the vibe into something I wouldn’t go to thor to get.

The second Thor was quite forgettable.

Yes. If they didn’t change the vibe for this one, I wouldn’t be all that interested.
