I’ve heard that the HDR color is a much more worthwhile improvement than 2160p resolution, but I haven’t had a chance to watch anything HDR yet, so I can’t really comment on that.

Yeah absolutely right. My plan had been to make sure to get HDR when I finally went for the 4K upgrade. And I will at some point, but I don’t mind not having it on this one - like I said, I was looking for HD, the 4K was just a bonus.

Got a Vizio D55un-E1 (55"). I’ve had good experiences in the past with Vizios (good balance between quality and price) so that was pretty much the only thing I was looking at. Wanted to get something in the high 40" to low 50" range. Was originally going to get just HD, but at $398, it was easily the best price for the size even if it was HD, the 4K was basically an added bonus.

The bitch about the 4K though is if I want to utilize it, I’ll need to spend more money, but I don’t think the offerings are enough at this point to make it worth it. Netflix has 4K but it costs more, HBO doesn’t have it, Amazon Prime does - but it’s not a smart TV (which for the most part isn’t a problem since I have an Xbox) so I’d need to get a Roku or something. And even then I’m not sure if my internet can handle it.

At some point I’ll make the 4K blu-ray leap, but at this time I don’t think the price is worth it. There’s a threshold for what the human eye perceives.

What is it with these Boston teams and stealing signals? Maybe they should investigate the Celtics and Bruins while they are at it.

Maybe this kind of cheating is actually pretty widespread and it’s just unfortunate coincidence that it was Boston/New England teams that got caught?

This has to more to do than just power.

Maybe there’s something about Hollywood that attracts that sort of person. Or, even scarier, perhaps that sort of person is just much more likely to succeed.

It’s not specific to Hollywood, it’s everywhere. The only reason we’re hearing about this stuff from Hollywood is because we know those peoples names, and often the names of the victims. People in less famous professions aren’t so lucky (or ones in professions where political affiliation will save you from any amount of heinous crimes).

I didn’t say it was specific to Hollywood, just that it may be more commonplace in Hollywood than other professions. And you’re right, it is only a big deal because these people are famous. If this kind of abuse was happening in the Lawyer ‘industry;’ I doubt people would even hear about it, and those that did probably wouldn’t care beyond a passing “that’s unfortunate.”

Maybe it is more commonplace to an extent, due to the nature of things like the auditioning process, dressing rooms and such, but this kind of thing is commonplace everywhere. It’s happening in law, I can assure you that. And, I know that was just a random example, but it’s one of the most dangerous professions for this, as the predators there know exactly how to get away with it.

Part of it is also the “gig” nature of entertainment work - you’re working with these people for a few weeks or months at a time, then the gig is done and you never have to see them again. This breeds both predatory behavior and silencing of victims, whereas in most fields, you’re stuck with the same people for years at a time, so a predator is less likely to go after someone if they know they’re always going to be around, and a victim is more likely to speak up if they have to see their predator for God knows how long.

Absolutely true.

I don’t think Frink was personally calling out or “denigrating” Dirge, I think he simply meant to imply that the whole conversation was drifting a bit and would be better suited to a different thread about how many times we’ve seen Star Wars (I believe there are a number of these).

As for my post, was just a joke, not at anyone’s expense in particular. Or maybe my post wasn’t an issue? You were sort of vague in terms of who you were calling out. (Hard to learn from my mistakes if I’m not sure if I made any, I honestly don’t see anything here deserving of reprimand but maybe that’s just me.)

Anyway, back to “topic” I suppose… I saw TFA five times in the theater (an unusually high number for me), and probably something like 3-4 times on Blu-ray/digital, and a lot more times on TV. Guess that means I liked it.

Sorry DominicCobb - this post wasn’t aimed at you - though is a ‘heads-up’ of sorts to everyone that this sort of behaviour will no longer be tolerated.

The full sentence is however… ‘Though to be honest - and for clarity - we’re fed up of seeing fellow members’ posts denigrated or being judged in this all-to-familiar manner’.

I appreciate the general sentiment, I do think we’re often too hard on members sometimes - I was just confused in this instance, thanks for clearing up.

Rian Johnson to Head New Star Wars Trilogy

Either way, pretty ridiculous to call this mundane news.

The ‘he’s creating the other two as well’ part really is that. Unless they’ll really bow down to him and let him loose completely unrestricted exactly the way you wouldn’t have done with a studio tentpole, with enough time between the installments to have him personally make the whole thing… that bit is pretty meaningless, especially this far in advance.

I am still absolutely beside myself that he’s doing a new, original Star Wars story.

I thought you meant mundane in regards to the news as a whole, not just that one bit.

Yeah, I highly doubt he’s directing or even writing the other two. But I think it would be odd for them to announce a spin-off trilogy if he didn’t have a three-part story in mind. Again, they could ultimately ditch his ideas, and whether they do or not who knows, but at this point that doesn’t really matter. It’s envisioned as a Johnson overseen trilogy, whether that remains the case doesn’t change the fact that that’s the idea now.

There is nothing wrong with our leaders playing the violin… as long they are also providing adequate fire-fighting services and fire-safety legislation.

True, but if they don’t provide adequate fire-fighting services and fire-safety legislation, criticize them for that, not playing the violin.

But if the city is burning and all they’re doing is playing…

Criticize them for not doing anything about the fact that the city is burning. What else they are doing or is irrelevant to that point.

You’re contorting yourself here to make your point.

Obviously the mere act of playing the fiddle is not what’s reprehensible, it’s that they’re doing it instead of something useful. The thing is, if you were to criticize them, you’d be going out of your way to not say “the city is burning and yet you’re just here playing the fiddle.” But again, just because you say that doesn’t mean that you have a problem with them playing the fiddle by itself. That fact is easily understood.
