Most Disappointing / Satisfying Aspect of the Sequel Trilogy?

I don’t see the conflict between the two scenes. Seeing the lightsaber makes Luke emotional. When he grabs the lightsaber, he throws it.

I don’t know what people expected, him to raise it in the air in that classic poster pose?

I expected him to walk away without even touching the saber, honestly.

Luke’s mindset is essentially the same in either case. Taking the saber and throwing it is just a more dramatic (and I guess surprising) way to accomplish the same thing.

Not sure who’s parade you’re raining on.

I forget why i created this. other than staring at the lost+found folder on my local filesystem. There was some sort of mad reasoning behind it at the time.

I suppose you can post pictures of things you have found, if you haven’t lost those pictures.

JEDIT: see the (edit) comment on my first post. not that it explains anything, other than how this topic has failed to meet its goals.

I thought this was supposed to be a thread where you put posts that were posted in the wrong thread, like paja posts.

Wow, 2 pages and maybe 3 posts actually doing what the thread is for.

No one should make a thread like this and expect zero discussion on the points brought up. This is a discussion forum.

I’m not saying there shouldn’t be any discussion. But at the moment, that’s 95% of the posts in here, with barely anyone actually participating in the thread as it was designed.

Also, despite what people say, there is nothing in the OT that would suggest this shouldn’t be the case.

Disagree. At least in terms of how Obi-wan refers to him which suggests he was called Darth before he turned to evil and that was his first name.

Nope.

Are we still allowed to cite The Secret History of Star Wars on this forum?

What Lucas had in mind when doesn’t affect my opinion on this.

The Worst Scene/Sequence in Any Star Wars Film

No. Both are bland and pointless and devoid of any heart and soul. They’re full of completely uncompelling characters and exist purely to cash in on names and imagery associated with a much better film (Star Wars).

There’s nothing in Rogue One that’s embarrassing. And, if nothing else, on a technical level, there’s really no comparison.

moviefreakedmind said:

And, since this has been a topic of conversation lately, they both have terrible and pointless CGI. Specifically I’m talking about the CGI Grand Moff Tarkin:

Besides the questionable Tarkin, though, this complaint doesn’t hold much merit.

This all started when moviefreakedmind started a post with this statement: “I hate the exhaust port complaint”. Then I said that, not only this complain is annoying, Lucasfilm also didn’t “fix” it with Rogue One, and I explained why (that it doesn’t make sense, tha it adds bizarre stuff, etc). I didn’t say that Galen adding a flaw was annoying or a problem for me. That is all.

Yeah, I agree it wasn’t something that needed fixing. Beyond that, time to

I never said intentionally making a flaw is a problem, I merely said Rogue One’s explanations doesn’t make a sense while in Star Wars you only need to accept a tiny bit and move on. Or perhaps I’m missing what you’re trying to say.

Rogue One’s explanation literally is someone intentionally making a flaw. You’re just describing various complaints you have with how Rogue One executed its plot. Which doesn’t have anything to do with the explanation that someone intentionally made the flaw.

Actually, yes. He says something like “a young JEDI knight called Darth Vader.” Its use as a title in the prequels explicitly assigns it to Sith/evil people. So why a Jedi would be named Darth becomes odd.

Ehhh this is a bit closer to me understanding but I still don’t care because he’s “lying” anyway.

Not sure if I’m not interpreting your post correctly, Mocata, but my last comment was addressing DominicCobb.

Adding to your post, there’s also:
a) Vader, Tarkin or the Emperor never bothering to monitor Galen after his exile/escape
b) Galen believing his flaw will never be detected by the Imperials in the middle of a battle by merely looking at the Rebels’ battle plan
c) the Imperials being unable or unwilling to send reinforcements to Scarif until the very end of the movie (roughtly 25 real life minutes after the battle has begun) while it takes like 2 minutes for the Rebels to send their whole fleet to the planet. Does the Empire have only 10 or 20 Star Destroyers in the whole galaxy?
d) the Scarif archives being guarded by a single guy during an intrusion/battle alert

while in the original you only needed to accept there was a flaw.

On second thought you were right when you said this

I hate the exhaust port complaint. People say that the Empire should’ve just covered it up, but that defeats the purpose of an exhaust port! It’s established that the port is tiny and apparently only someone with extreme propensity for the force can even hit it. Also, the port wasn’t what destroyed the Death Star. It was a chain reaction explosion caused by a torpedo making it all the way down the port and into the center of the space station. It isn’t like the exhaust port was a self-destruct button.

The funny thing is that when Lucasfilm addresses this complain, they add even more improbable and implausible stuff on top of the original plausible but improbable stuff.

Agreed. The dumb ideas added in RO are the problem, not the original plans that needed to be researched to find the weakness in 1977.

What is the problem with the RO explanation?

This is not how you do this thread right hahaha.

You’re definitely in violation of the second rule of the thread. I was willing to entertain the notion that this wasn’t a baffling complaint, but basically none of your points have anything to do with why someone making the flaw on purpose is a problem.

Ohhhhhh.

But for real, it was a top secret plan they needed to steal, in order to research a strategy. The one weakness, something the villains overlooked because they were arrogant (they didn’t consider a small fighter attack to be a threat). Now it’s because some guy put the flaw in there all along… eugh.

I still don’t see the issue.

It’s partly that he’s just constantly doing it, and it’s more distracting than Vader’s breathing. It’s partly that they explained it in an EU source, which is annoying (Vader’s breathing aside, again). But it’s probably mostly because the character is annoying to begin with so the cough just makes it worse. I think it would bother me less if Vader was doing it.

I don’t think he does it that much as you say. And any explanation is unnecessary. It’s easy to assume that the technology just isn’t perfect or whatever. As for the character being annoying, I won’t argue about that.

People complain a lot about Star Wars movies. Some justified, some not as much. This is for the latter.

Some ground rules:

  1. This is NOT the thread for you to make your own complaints
  2. This is NOT the thread for you to talk about praise for the films that is baffling
  3. This is NOT a place for you to talk about complaints you merely disagree with. This is for complaints that, try as you hard as you can, you simply cannot understand

With that said, here’s mine for each live action film

SW
Luke doesn’t mourn his aunt and uncle’s death. This is silly to me. We see he’s clearly broken up about it, then we cut away and when we cut back some time has passed, but he’s still broken up about it and because of it has decided to move on and join the fight against the Empire.

ESB
Vader being Luke’s father turns it into a soap opera. Star Wars was mythic from the start and this seems to fit that pretty well, amongst other things. This is not a hard one to defend.

ROTJ
Lapti Nek is a pointless musical number. I think it must be the extended Jedi Rocks that colors this complaint, but actually in the theatrical Lapti Nek is not really a musical number at all, and doesn’t have anymore emphasis on it than the Cantina Band’s song. Much like that, it’s a good way to paint the picture of Jabba’s seedy palace.

TPM
That Darth is a title, not a name. I mean, why the hell not? First of all, it’s a solid portmanteau (“Dark Lord of the Sith”). Second of all, maybe this is just me, but I think Darth is kind of a funny name, but works fine as a title. Also, despite what people say, there is nothing in the OT that would suggest this shouldn’t be the case.

AOTC
The forbidden love angle to the romance. Execution aside, I like the concept of Jedi being forbidden from having attachments, and I think Anakin feeling the need to break that rule is a good first step in his split from the Jedi.

ROTS
Grievous’s cough. I think it’s actually a pretty good way to immediately establish that he’s not just a droid, and to sort of anticipate Vader’s breathing. Not sure what about it people hate.

TFA
Rey knows the Falcon better than Han. Besides the fact that Han’s knowledge of the Falcon was never infallible, the things that Rey knows that Han doesn’t are things that have changed about it since Han last had it.

RO
The blue milk cameo is shoved in your face. If you didn’t know that was a “reference,” you wouldn’t think twice about it, because it’s not the focal point of that shot.

TLJ
Hits you over the head with an animal cruelty message. First of all I don’t know how you could say that’s in anyway heavy handed, they stumble on the Fathier cage and let them out because why wouldn’t they, amongst other reasons. Second, I struggle to understand why having even the vaguest hint of distaste for animal cruelty in Star Wars is a bad thing.

Anyway, that’s it for me. You guys?
