Song Of The South - many projects, much info & discussion thread (Released)

My brains hurt.
I've tried JoeyO's subtitles which NEARLY sync retimed from 25 to 23.976. I found a couple others that NEARLY sync retimed from 29.97 to 23.976.

I'm starting to think the old transfers had different cuts on reel changes or something because this new one will not relent.

If we're going to have subs, someone ambitious is going to have to sit down and retime chunks of it until it's right.
And that's just time consuming.

Well..... messing around with this today, I fixed it... and I didn't.

I ripped the movie from the first VTS using DVD Decrypter, converted the subtitles to NTSC with VobSub, remuxed the movie with MuxMan and then pushed it back into the DVD with VobBlanker.

Unfortunately the timings are still off. All subtitles are early by a good 2-3 seconds (across the whole film).
Also, some lines are too long for the font size used and get cut off.

I would need to either get the original .srt file or run this through OCR software to fix it at this point. So, I'll leave it to JoeyO.

JoeyO - Beware, I noticed that the subtitles are spelled as people talk.
"Dat dare Br'er Fox. He a bad un." I hope that's not what you're seeing as misspelled.
If you want help with the subs, PM me, and I'll take care of the srt file and send a corrected version back to you.

If you look under Tools/Information and Errors/Information and Errors (or hit ctrl-I), it'll give you a list of problems.
This includes subtitles that are too short.
It can auto-correct them.

Be careful though, the default 'errors' that Subtitle Workshop looks for is a bit extensive and I usually disable half of them because they'd cause more damage then they'd fix.

As far as I know DVDSubEdit can only change individual timings. I don't recall ever seeing an overarching retime all subs feature.

I tried demuxing, retiming the subs in vobsub, and remuxing, but something weird is going on there. Not only were the subs out of sync, but the audio was as well afterwards.

I'll may give it another try tomorrow, but it sounds like JoeyO is on it.

sp1 files are subtitle files built for DVDLab.
DVDLab takes a text based sub file and then generates a precompiled graphic subpicture type file thingey (sp1, sp2, sp3, etc.)

I don't know of anything that works with sp# files, you'd need the original subrip/text based subs to retime.

I'm sure opensubtitles.org or subscene should have something you can use if you don't have the raw file.

That would depend on the format your subtitles are in.

If you were working with .srt or some form of text subs, Subtitle Workshop is my preferred tool.

If you are going to rip the subpictures and retime them still as a graphic format, VobSub Cutter has the ability to retime based on standard frame rates.

I don't know whether it'd be better for JoeyO to fix and repost a v2 or for me to put up some fix files and instructions on how to repair the disc.

On mediafire if you are in "Extended Sharing Mode" you can get 1 link for an entire folder.

So just upload the parts, move them to a folder with a name of your choice and click share (on the folder) to get the link. Rapidshare requires separate links for every file part which is a pain.

And yes, people will have to contact you for further information when it's ready.

Glad to hear it JoeyO. I think most people wouldn't mind having the movie and waiting for disc two.

The Pirate Bay or MiniNova are good places for a torrent.
If you'd rather do the direct download sort of thing (like RapidShare), I'm a big fan of MediaFire.com which lets you have an account for free.
For that you'd need to .rar and split the file into 100mb parts, but it's a nice alternative.
