FEDS (1988) Preservation (project cancelled due to official DVD release)
Time

Heh heh.  I just realized the movie is "Feds" not "F.E.D.S.", which is something else.

Oh, since the torrent doesn't exist anymore, for those that want english subtitles, here is my own version:http://www.mediafire.com/?nzmzhlxuzea

I capped the movie from an old Starz VHS recording, ripped the captions, retimed and corrected any dropouts.

They're largely paraphrasing of the dialog, but it's better than no subs if you need them.

Edit: Subtitles link updated... see post below.

Have you seen JJ's film skyjedi2005?  The trailers look amazing and JJ doesn't do much wrong.  I just worry that he's a (gasp) Star Wars fan not a Trek fan.

I'll no doubt grab this Special Longer Version, but there's no getting around the fact that the movie is deeply flawed and really has about an hour of story stretched out.

Abrams may have made a better film, you don't know (and neither do I).

DVD Rebuilder has no PAL to NTSC settings (and it really really should).  In fact AFAIK there is no single program that can do such a full conversion (though movie-only options abound).  If you are interested in rolling up your sleeves, take a look at my hefty Full PAL2NTSC guide over in the How-To/Technical section of this forum.

That's a bit off topic.

On topic is a question that I'm sure has been asked and answered but I'm just drawing a blank on... are the effects in this cut theatrical or the Director's Cut redone effects?

I personally had no problem with the new ones and wish they went that far when they remastered TOS. Though with HDTV used as a source in this, I'm guessing there are no updated effects.

I can't imagine Indy obsessed with ANY artifact after the events of Last Crusade.

He's seen where that leads.

Is not that the whole point of Indy IV that the only treasure he found on his travels of "fortune and glory" worth having and holding on to Is Marion Ravenwood.

In the end the only thing that matters he discovers is love and family, and all these treasures and hollow pursuits were just distractions. I can imagine him Hanging up the hat and whip for good unless Marion goes on his next quest with him. Its more likely he will pass them on to mutt. Mutt will wear the jacket hat fedora and whip. Indy Fans don't want a Mutt Jones trilogy but clearly IV was the Last real indy picture.

Yeah film fans wanted Indy to remain an aventurous bachelor forever and be forever youthfull like james bond, to do that Lucas and Ford need to recast the role.

I could have understood a prequel Indy film starring Sean Patrick Flannery as Indiana Jones. How old is that actor now?

Do you think Instead of the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles if River Phoenix did not die it would have been a natural progression for them to make YOUNG INDY prequel films.

Perhaps NOT the last real Indy movie.  They've made some noises about a possible #5 & #6 and not the Adventures of Mutt Jones, but Harrison Ford back.

As far as Sean Patrick Flanery, you could have last seen him as Greg Stillson on the Dead Zone TV series.  He's not that Indy looking anymore.

I'm afraid for that 'burn on demand' program.  It basically means they're going to neglect deeper catalog titles using the excuse that they're available on demand.

For a $20 DVD (which is expensive for today's market) I expect restored anamorphic video, clean 5.1 audio (whenever possible), english subtitles, and a few nice extras (at least a trailer).

Professional and proper encoding/authoring takes time... that I'm sure they won't bother with.

I think what it will turn out to be is a disc in a cardboard sleeve with just a movie, a generic 'burn on demand' menu, and video quality that looks like they capped it off the air.

No matter how great the lure of a 'lost movie', I don't think I'd buy anything under those conditions.

Doctor M's ÜberGuide for -Full- PAL to NTSC DVD Conversion v2.0

3/26/2009: Corrected and clarified my clarifications from yesterday.

Edit: And a quick edit.  Mistakenly referred to 5% being safe for subtitles.  I meant 10%.  That's fixed now too.

3/29/2009: Discovered bug in more recent versions of DVDSubEdit.  Guide now recommends only v1.41 and older until it's fixed.

I've been playing around with programs that rip the celltimes.  There seems to be no accurate software for doing this and I'm not sure I understand why.

I tried ChapterXtractor, DVDDecrypter, PGCDemux and IFOEdit.

IFOEdit and PGCDemux produce the same results.  ChapterXtractor will generate matching results if you force it to display all cells and set it to 30fps (instead of the 29.97 default), but it may skip the last celltime. (This is when ripping from an NTSC disc not PAL).

The movie I was testing this with was only a frame or so off for chapters using the PGCDemux cells, which were much closer than the DVDDecrypter list which was just plain wrong.

I dunno what the situation is with DVDDecrypter, I'll play a bit more, BUT I'm going to update the guide in the next few days removing DVDDecrypter as the ripper of choice.

Edit: Or not.  It would seem the error creeps in ONLY in NTSC celltimes.

On PAL DVDs, DVDDecrypter and PGCDemux produce the same results (with PGCDemux on the default settings).

The guide is fine as it is, but I recommend using PGCDemux if you're working with NTSC celltimes.
