That is all.
Probably true, stwd4nder2. My TVs with HDR are early in the tech, but I feel most of the time it’s more like when you go to an electronics store and they are demoing the TVs in torch mode.
Still, I can’t imagine any director or cinematographer more than 6 or 7 years ago intending their work to look anything like what HDR does to it. Heck, when HDR first came out, they had to teach a lot of filmmakers what it was. Anyway, I guess we’re mostly off topic now.
That sounds about right.
I’m not a huge fan of HDR. I completely believe it’s the modern equivalent of colorizing a black and white film.
You are extracting light levels and colors from a film print (or in this case a computer) that the original creators had no expectations people would see.
I don’t understand why more purists aren’t against it since it isn’t the intent of the filmmakers.
So, the Diamond Edition is probably the last best version. Of course there is still the IMAX reanimation, but unless you’re going to scan a film print, I don’t think we can do more accurate than the LD, which is never going to look great.
Anyone know if “Aladdin 1992 720p HDTV DD5.1 x264-ESiR” is before the IMAX changes?
So. For those looking to upgrade Aladdin from ADigitalMan’s restoration, I noticed yesterday that someone is sharing a theatrical DTS audio track that can be synced to the Blu-ray’s video.
That was news to me. I suppose I should update the first post with details of that.
But here is my concern: I have no idea what the quality of the BD’s audio track is, if the mix is good, the source of the theatrical bits (besides “original motion picture soundtrack”, which doesn’t explain where a possible change to the “Good kitty” line came from), or the fact that the whole thing has to have been re-encoded to DTS if edits were made.
Yeah. Anyone know anything about what I apparently don’t know what I’m talking about?
Edit: And another question. I see the UHD disc and Signature BD have a new AR of 1.66:1. Blu-ray.com claims it opens up the borders and presents the ‘intended’ aspect ratio, but IMDb says that’s the negative’s ratio, but the intended is 1.85:1, which would make the Diamond Edition the preferred video source.
Thoughts here?
My first project was similar. I was syncing another audio track to a SW preservation and I realized that the video and audio, being from different masters, tended to go out of sync at the reel changes (about every 20 minutes). It’s because of missing or extra frames when they edit it together.
Additionally, VHS recordings, being analog, may be sped up or slowed down because of recording or playback equipment. It’s usually tiny, but it becomes additive over time.
Thinking about this today, I always assumed Disney was filming “The Muppets Take The Bowl” for a future home video release.
5 years later, I guess that was not the plan.
Searching the net, I found a guy who trades discs claiming to have this show complete as a 2-DVD collection.
Has anyone seen this or found this show anywhere?
Most people claim it’s Disney’s best Muppet production, which just makes me sadder that it seems to be gone (outside of some YouTube bits).
Edit: I did see someone has posted The Muppets Take the O2 edited together as a complete show from random shaky cam footage. There is some overlap.
I thought I read somewhere there might be some new deleted scenes in it, but I can’t remember where or find it via Google. Maybe I hallucinated it. Maybe we’ll get some Peeves.
I’ve started watching Friends for the first time this year on HBOMax. This is the first I’ve heard there is a cut/uncut version.
Since it’s HD, I’m assuming HMax is edited(?)
Hello! Would it be possible for me to get a copy of the unpaired pilot? I have a low quality copy of the re-released “original” pilot, with scenes from the rest of the series edited in, but I would really like to get my hands on the original rough cut if possible.
So… here we are… 2021…
Let me start off saying I’m so happy to see forums like this get updates, no matter how sporadic. It really proves that this fandom isn’t just a quirky little gang of fantasy geeks- It’s a goddamn community!!! And decades later, we’re still kicking!!! ❤️
I could go on, but alas I find myself on a quest- yes, the same quest many of you have found yourselves on.
~ The Quest For The Pilot ~
[cue sweeping & dramatic score]
Is there any hope of getting a copy?? Am I wasting my misspent youth on a perilous & ultimately doomed venture??
Perhaps. But I refuse to give up, I refuse to settle, I refuse to believe this cannot be obtained!
Any help would be so very appreciated. And failing that, some companions in commiseration.
PM sent.
Funny thing, DresdenPhile disappeared without ever responding to my PM. Check your PM’s, Tsavo.
I’d love to see that cut of the movie, but once Peeves makes an appearance, you’re going to wonder what happened to him for the rest of the time Harry spent at Hogwarts.
Then again, what happened to Nearly Headless Nick?
I had to look that up. Ghosts appear in Deathly Hallows 2, I just assumed John Cleese was there, but according to Imdb, once again, Chris Columbus was the only one to use the character.
Now I’m wondering if he shot Peeves scenes for Chamber of Secrets as well.
Me too!:

Hey there Gang!!
I uploaded all of these to the squeedily spooch (the organ site - with closed membership)

Did you ask JJP before posting?
Negative
I hope that at the very least you credited him.
Well his name is in the title of the uploads… and in twenty plus years of uploading for the fans I don’t believe I’ve ever not gave “credit” - so I’m not sure why you would even ask.
Because if you had been following the thread, JJP had deleted his files, stopped development and disappeared for a time because of sharing his content without giving credit or asking first.

Has there been any progress in making the next releases multichannel? AAC 5.1 is still fairly small by comparison to other CODECS. I know there was some issue with getting the software to even output in stereo.
As far as I know, the only edit to Melody Time was Pecos Bill smoking.
Make Mine Music had more substantial changes so would be more noticeable.
You could try using BD Rebuilder which can re-encode BD’s and other HD content to a DVD as BD-9 or BD-5 which many players can play.
If you want actual DVD content, your quality will of course take a hit as you downscale to standard definition.
Sorry. I was low on sleep yesterday and complete forgot JJP didn’t extend the first film.
@JJPotter, have you considered changing the first movie to ‘Philosopher’s Stone’?
I’ve always hated that they felt Americans were too stupid to want to read/watch a story that had the word Philosopher in it.
After reading that, I don’t want a director’s cut. He sounds like an idiot.
The original script had an official printed publication. Anyone looking to fan-edit the movie can just pick that up and use it as a guideline.
No no no no. Whatever you do is fine. Your quality is excellent and it will be just fine. I was just mentioning pros/cons of things, but I don’t have any strong feelings.
I watch these on a home theater system with a 75" TV that handles HEVC just fine. I’m just used to people saying that the home encoders of the codec are still somewhat immature and people tend to overcompress thinking they work as well as commercial software.
I do want to mention that some devices people may watch these on don’t handle HEVC so well (if at all).
The original quality is so good. I honestly wouldn’t mind you using H.265 but keeping the file size on the larger side… and maybe not using aac for the audio.
So, what is this I’m hearing now about Roger Rabbit being censored?
I know the ride is… is the movie getting more modification? I wouldn’t be surprised.
And just in time for Hogwarts Day.
I wasn’t aware about Hogwarts Day actually.
The official event aired early this morning in the UK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jxzhv8SxGMo
