GOUT, Automated Theatrical Colouring, and a Reference Guide
Time

Okay, take these with a grain of salt.  I only have some screenshots to work with, not source video.  Also, my Hue change is based on the vectorscope.

I want to rationalize my Hue before you all complain.  As I've said in the past, I don't like to adjust hue because I have color vision problems.  My decision is because the brightest red and blue peaks are off of true red and blue by about -5.  Similarly skintones are more towards magenta and off of "standard skin tones" by the same quantity.

If you don't like the hue change, disregard it.  I also did NOT adjust the Levels.  I feel they are fine and that the contrast issue is from washed out colors, not from a white/black problem.

Anyway, what I've done is use tweak's MaxSat setting this time around.  The second tweak is so the hue adjustment moves ALL colors, not just those effected by the saturation increase.

In this case: tweak(MaxSat=60, Sat=1.3).tweak(Hue=-5)

What this means is any color in a given frame that already exceeds 60% of maximum valid levels is not adjusted.

SOooo, while a frame may have reds so strong it's hot (possibly invalid) in the original, all reds below 60% are still boosted (but not so far as to exceed valid levels).  Reds ABOVE 60% are untouched.

I'm sure some futzing around could yield even better results, but I think it's the right direction.

Edit: Look at these again, I would consider using a lower saturation.  Probably something more around 1.2 or 1.25.

Probably on tehparadox too.

Well, if they ever get tehparadox to work properly it would be a good place for folks who know and like to use JDownloader.  Every single time I try to access the site it drags like cement bricks encased in lead.  There are also times when clicking links there where I get diverted to some "pay for" downloading site....it sucks.

Any suggestions on easier ways to navigate it would be greatly appreciated.

Try a new ISP?  I've never had any problems loading TehParadox.

While I've never played with it (or understood it completely), Tweak() has a MaxSat and MinSat that can let you cap the range that the Sat option effects. http://avisynth.org/mediawiki/Tweak

I'm thinking that by utilizing those options you could in theory increase the saturation (for all colors including the lower range reds) but avoid making the bleeding any worse.

Is anyone familiar with this?

Wow, nobody?  I guess I'll have to find some time and mess around with it.

Rocky Horror Picture Show (* unfinished project *)

SOoo... the thing is the 2.0 participation track is okay if you are listening on a 2.0 device (TV, etc.), but turns to garbage in a ProLogic decoder.

In an attempt to get the dynamic range of the 5.1 track and an audience that is still intelligible in 2 channels or surround, here is a clip of my release candidate.

Original 2-channel mix: http://www.mediafire.com/?ej86185fzz9y28j

Custom 5.1 mix: http://www.mediafire.com/?d4e54ghl9su3pfj

The audience was extracted and then mixed with the 5.1's surround channels, with a little bit in the front L/R so it doesn't sound unnatural.

Opinions?

I did notice that the rear channels sound in-phase now (whereas the original track sounds out of phase).  It wasn't intentional, I'm not sure WHY it happened, and I can't decide if it's better that way or not.

Edit: Would there be more interest if this was done with a higher bitrate BluRay source track?

What's the story behind them touching up the special effects on Tporter2?  Was that done for DVD because it was rushed to theaters, or is it some sort of "special editioning"?

Some of the touched up (in the french theatrical version) Special Effects seem to be "corrections" to give some more 'realistic' (as far as this is possible).

Here ( http://www.schnittberichte.com/schnittbericht.php?ID=3108137 ) is a comparison between the french and the international Version.

The international version seems to be someway censored in action.

There are 4 official Versions of Transporter - The Mission:

- French uncensored theatrical Version (seem to have some CGI improvements)

- International theatrical Versions (shorter than the french without improved CGI)

- German Long Version ( basing on the french with better CGI, but about 5 minutes longer)

- US Version (basing on the international Version, but more censored)

I don't know if there are english languages comparison pages, sorry.

Thanks.  I did not know that.

Doctor M's ÜberGuide for -Full- PAL to NTSC DVD Conversion v2.0
Time

While I mentioned DVDShrink as an option if the final disc is oversized because for small percentages it's just faster (but it wasn't strongly recommended).

If you are going to go to the trouble of re-encoding, it makes more sense to do it from your scripts re-encoding the source PAL.

DVDShrink doesn't re-encode video, it compresses it by finding and dropping data where it can.  DVD Rebuilder would push the entire DVD, movie and extras, through a second re-encoding.  I would be more worried about how that would look.

Incredibly I just noticed that I failed to mention the possibility of progressive video with phase shifts and or swapped fields (fields in a reversed order).

This type of video is simply progressive where the field order is off by one field.  Fixing it restores the image to progressive.

Will definitely have to mention it when I figure out what to do about the subtitles.

Has anyone played with BDSup2Sub yet?  I'm curious what results people are finding.

The Empire Strikes Back "1980 Theatrical version" Reconstruction - Adywan (Released)

ROTJ is currently being reconstructed by Harmy. You can already get the NTSC DVD5 version if you ask him nicely, although you might want to wait for the DVD9 version. As for ANH, Adywan previously announced plans for a later reconstruction, so it's really just a matter of time and patience, I guess.

Thanks.

Considering you just registered today, and this was your only post, I'm not surprised you haven't found what you want.

You will find no links on the OT Forum.  Perhaps someone will help you out in locating them.  Ask in the correct thread and make sure your private messages are turned on.

Mielr, well, your film frame has definitely aged, but a quick and dirty adjustment to de-age it looks like this: http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/2910/lukehanceltweaked.jpg

I'm starting to think the orange in the skin tones (especially Luke) that I was unhappy about in my suggested settings on the other thread, might actually be accurate.

Perhaps a bad make-up attempt to give Tatooine residents a tan?

I'm on the fence.

I think I'm getting on board the leave it alone boat.  While they could be better, I think no single settings will make people happy.

The red needs to be left alone or reduced, but then increasing saturation on any other color except blue is going to produce unpleasant skin tones.

I wish the yellows could be improved on (for C3PO and Tatooine scenes), I say just blue or nothing.

As far as Hue, I've got to leave that to someone else with a good eye for colors.  My +5 number was derived from the Technicolor print, but that doesn't mean it will cause the GOUT DVD to produce a pleasant image.

Edit: Okay, looking again, maybe I like my second to last script (compared to a 70mm cell that someone posted.)  I'm pretty much going to just stay out of it for now.
