My upcoming fan-edit (no name invented yet) | W.I.P
Time

This is the page of my upcoming fan-edit. I have not yet coined a name for it, but I am considering some masters to use and changes to make.

POSSIBLE MASTER OPTIONS

  1. Disney 2019 master
  2. 1997 master (either a high-quality scan for the full film or using the 1997 widescreen video release for some specific shots)
  3. A custom made master based on several official releases that has corrected colours etc and then the changes will be done on top of that master, whilst the original master might be archived somewhere.

PLANNED CHANGES LIST

  • Additional special effects
  • Some completely new scenes
  • Some special effects completely removed with new ones added on top
  • Greedo scene reverted to 1997 version

If I want to make all those changes I might have to try to do a recomposition to some shots to allow smooth new special effects etc.

TECHNICAL DETAILS
Resolution: 720p as a start, because I am working with a very limited storage capacity, but I will probably do a 1080p release soon after the 720p versions release.
Sound: Stereo
Release date: January-May 2026 as target
Colour style: as natural and realistic as possible
Editing software: DaVinci Resolve mostly. Premiere Pro if needed

Will be updated whenever something new.

Which one do you all like more, 1997 SE or 2004 SE?
Time

The title explains it.
I personally would pick the 1997 SE. it is much better with the colours, and the 2004 changes are mostly bad in my opinion, I don’t like the 2004-present hologram of Palpatine, since it looks bad, especially since that’s not his RotJ appearance. I also obviously don’t like the young Anakin at the ending of RotJ, and I hate how the sound mix is in 2004 SE.

one key reason to why I have a grudge against you is your attitude, whatever I do “trolling, trolling, trolling,” etc. I believe you should be the one who is reported.

Looks like you have a history of trolling based on your past messages/interactions… Accusations way back in 2025 and 2024 when you first started chatting.
So can’t blame anyone for automatically accusing you of doing so.

define “trolling” please. is it trolling to make a restoration? if it’s trolling to get angry under a lot of pressure on making a restoration?

back in 2024 I had a lot of pressure whilst making the restoration so I often got angry at it. and in 2025 quite similar happened.

that’s exactly why I have lately decided to start apologising to people now that I see that this could have been done much more easily.

therefore because I have been willing to settle all this, I expect people not to refer to old events whenever quoting what I say.

Because you are ignoring other people’s corrections about your many false assumptions. Not just here, but also within your own threads about your 480p projects. You talked about scans of movies which didn’t even existed.

And that’s all from my side about this matter. I don’t want to soil this anniversary thread any longer with your nonsense.

wrong. the 360p thing, as said many times already, was to imply how much I lack faith in these official releases, and all scans I have talked about are real. just because they are not advertised everywhere doesn’t make them not real.
I have offered you several chances to stop, yet you refuse. I must ask, why? why do you must continue something that happened months ago? I know I am not the only person who makes statements to make a point here.

also I have a feeling they’re just going to publish the film on 360p or something near that.

I’m tired of this guy trolling this community. Reported.

reporting for a joke. 😄
it seems quite absurd how desperate you have been to argue with me. I have apologised to you many times and yet you continue. a joke exaggeration is not “trolling”. it is trolling if I said I’d make something and never do, which I have never done.

ok maybe not 360p but I don’t expect a 4K release. at least not native 4K without any up scaling.

Are you new to the forum or what?

it was a joke exaggeration, I already said it above, and no, I have been here for years. I just don’t have faith in disney.

The press statement for the release literally says NEWLY RESTORED, not enhanced, upscaled, etc. Now will there be audio changes?? More than likely. I’m sure a new Atmos mix is gonna be made that I’m hoping at best will blend the three original audio mixes rather than add new stuff. We won’t know til next year.

I hope they don’t change any dialogue like they have done with the audio mixes.

Have you this thread??? We have literally seen leaked images from the new version that are not only in 4K but native 6K!
360p??? You have to be a troll…

It looks up scaled. sure it looks good but it doesn’t look as good as it should. I also wonder if they will change the audio.

I hope they at least release the special editions of 1997 in HD, 2k or 4k. it’s very known that they won’t release the theatrical version at all but at least those versions would be great.
however I pray that they DO NOT make ANY new changes to the original trilogy. it has seen enough changes already, especially the Greedo-Han scene.

The theatrical version of the first film is literally getting a theatrical release next year. This is confirmed.

I don’t think it’s the original version. There’s been changes to the film ever since the release. It will still probably have some audio enhancements etc.

I’ve been trying to think of a way to be positive about these edits, but I’m not sure I can. I don’t understand the reason behind making a re-Specialized GOUT, and the final product jumps around in quality so much that it’s distracting. Every SE shot re-inserted does not blend in in the slightest. There’s nothing this edit does that couldn’t just be met by watching any of the existing preservations of the 1997 Laserdisc.

I mean, if you’re doing this as an exercise to learn how to edit, good for you. But you don’t need to set release dates for this or try to build hype. You can share them if you want, but this project might work best as a personal project for you.

I don’t do this for any of the reasons you potentially wondered. even I myself realised that the master I used is not from an original reel only AFTER the restorations were finished, and by that point, delaying the restorations with months again would have just caused more debates and controversy. I consider the new restorations an unfortunate mistake caused by unclear sources on the master’s part. in the future I will resort to actual direct reels, and using 4k97 projects more is an option, although hard to accomplish, after I have been banned from the forums they are in and the colours in those restorations are really hard to fix to match the actual release.

So now the goal is to take 4K77 and reinsert the (hundreds of) changed shots from 4K97, then present it at 480p? Personally, I would just color correct 4K97 or the Laserdisc to my liking, as the inserts are always going to be rough and even following my gallery would still miss changes. If this is just a matter of not having a Laserdisc preservation, I can get you the Laserdisc.

I would appreciate digital videos of the films ripped from the widescreen LaserDiscs! Also my goal with 4k97 would have been to use solely it and maybe aim for some enhancements in colour etc.

if you came to this thread just to attempt to make a laugh out of a simple decision, I strongly urge you not to do so in the future. how would you feel if you made some projects and every time you made a declaration, I mocked it?

@director, What '97 VHS or Laserdisc couldn’t you find? Maybe us helping you locate it will be better for you…

the wide screen version. I used to own a copy years ago but it got lost by accident, and since then I have been searching for a digital file containing them. no one seems to give away video files of them online, and I am not going to spend a thousand hours digging to the deep web just for a version of 3 films.

You are correct. Maybe OP has another definition of “soon”, regarding he is using it since September 2024…

I must add to this that:
whenever I say “soon”, I truly mean that I intend to release something soon. delays happen. I also DID give a sample reel already in September 2024, but I deleted it later after the 2024 version of the restoration was released.
