STAR WARS: the alt.binaries.starwars thread
Time
That's weird because no matter how many times I update the group in Grabit they don't show up. I have all the others but I guess something's screwy with my newsgroups provider.
If someone uploads 1-6 I'll have enough with the pars to fll in the rest. Uploading them again should allow them to be available for me, I'm not sure why they aren't there now tho.

luke there is no way with a strait face you can tell met hat the ship in the OT looked better then the ships in the PT cus it is simplally not true. that would mean that we have gone backward in the 1970s and if that iw waht you are saying then... i am speechless and have lost some respect for you today.

Shimraa, I definitely think the OT ships look better than the new ones. It doesn't mean we've gone back to the 70's, were real life models in some way inferior to real life models today? Do we have some super space-age paint and decals to decorate them with now or something? The new trilogy ones I'm thinking of truley look worse to me than ships from the OT because the new ones are CGI and look fake. not to mention have less detail, and also their design is far less appealing in my eyes. You shouldn't condescend people by saying you have lost respect for them for what they think. I could say the same about you right now, and with better reason than just because you like a different appeal, but I won't coz we all make mistakes

CGI and Digital or Real models and actors-whats your prefferance.?
Time
I personally don't even favor golem's CGI much. he still looks incredibly, for lack of deep thinking for a better word right now, translucent and pale in comparison to any real figures. I would've opted for a heavily makeup'd actor instead. I think the same look could be achieved. from my perception nothing about the skin, eyes or hair on golem feels real. I also notice the CGI when it comes to things like catapults knocking down buildings and such. maybe pariculatly because the computer animated dust looks very fake, but overall I believe that CGI must be used as sparingly as possible for best results. It also makes the inventive mind lazy to always look to computers to draw an image rather than figuring out how it can actually be done.

I'm not a big fan of the CGI either. I can always notice it and it just never feels real at all. Imagine replacing the jabba in ORTJ with a CGI - they would be two entirely different things. I don't know if CGI will ever be able to imitate true reality fully, but as for now it sticks out like a sore thumb due to too many reasons to think about. A real presence of a model or person fills a space that CGI only imitates the look of, but really has no physical dimension to it.

LoL, Rikter won't miss a chance to sell his DVDs...

thanks ricarleite, i'm downloading it now though. i had to check with my brother who is the cable subscriber here first. i'm sure we've already about hit our 20 BG limit so i thought there was no way i'd be able to d/l this. but my bro says "they'll just call up and complain" about the bandwidth. it d/l 23 % in the last 12 hours, so there's a day an a half to go, yipee

Printing Star Wars DVD covers
Time
hello. i'm wanting to print off copies of the OT trilogy dvd case covers but i'm wondering what the best way to do this is. i'm guessing some of you who have dvd copies have made covers for them and so i have some questions for youse. will it use up all of my ink to print 4 covers; is there some way to get them made for a cheap price? and what about the paper that's used, is it possible to have them done on the type of paper that's normally found on dvd casings? any other info you can give on this subject would be helpful, thanks.

is it true that to download the 4th disc with bittorrent it will take me 12 GB (4 BG download + 8 GB upload) of bandwidth? it seems to upload at twice the speed of it's downloads. that's a crazy amount is there any other way to download this? by the way, are those torrents for the same version of the set that Rikter posted screens of on page 26? i got copies all 3 movies from that version from a except for the 4th disc, which he didn't have.
