ROTJ is the best Star Wars film... discuss!
Time

A Wookiee army, though, would make the Star Wars universe seem a bit too condensed. Ewoks made Endor feel like another new discovery, both for the viewer and also the SW characters, themselves. The SW characters didn’t know what they were encountering when they landed there. If it had been a Wookiee planet that the Empire had just decided to use for their base, then it’d be like: OK, so in the SW universe there are primarily humans, droids, and wookiees… and the rest are b-grade props.

ROTJ is the best Star Wars film... discuss!
Time

RotJ has always been my favourite film of the SW series. It has the most fluid space ship battle, and the best light saber battle. It also has some of the scenes that I like most, like Jaba’s sail barge, and the speeder bike chase. And it also has some of the best Darth Vader moments. Jedi also has many of the series’ deepest and strongest emotional points, with Luke helplessly watching the Rebel fleet from the Death Star while the emperor taunts him, and while he tries to redeem his father, but his father resists, and tries to break Luke, and use Lea against him, and then Luke breaks… and when Vader dies, saved… the funeral pyre for Vader, the ghosts of Obi, Yoda, and Anakin…

I also love Jedi’s ending (though I prefer the non SE version), and I’m very glad that Harrison Ford didn’t get his way by having Han Solo die in the movie, which I think would have been a cheap emotional cash-in that SW didn’t need, and that its story accomplished a perfect resolution.

So much criticism towards Jedi seems to be about the Ewoks, but people taking issue with Ewoks should think about this: Full body armour that does nothing to protect the wearer, and only makes it difficult for the wearer to see, and walk. If Storm Troopers aren’t a weak point of Star Wars, then Ewoks are completely in the clear.

I think that the people who critique RotJ for Ewoks just have latent teddy-bear issues or something, and that their gripes say something about only them, and not the movie.

I’ve grown to appreciate Empire Strikes Back more over time, but at best I say it’s equal to Return of the Jedi - which is a pretty darn good compliment. I think the series goes RotJ (best), ESB (2nd best, up to parity with RotJ), IV (decent, even good, but also rough in many ways).

Actually this thread has kind of pissed me off.

In my time on this forum the people who have helped me out have been nothing short of fantastic whether I am in a postion to reciprocate or not.Let me cite this one example in particular.Back before the read-alongs site was set up with all the downloads on it I had a PC crash and lost all the MP3s of my sons' vintage Star Wars read-alongs and we dont have a tape or record player so couldn't do them together and he was very upset. So I put a request up here asking for help and not only did I get multiple responses but in the end,as I dont have a newsgroup account, the person who helped me allowed me access to their newsgroup account, sent me instructions on how to download from a newsgroup (as I am a torrents user and hadn't a clue) and I replaced ALL of the MP3s of my sons's books and got some we didnt have before which I then went and bought the books for and he was delighted.

Now THAT is what the people on this forum will do for each other and I wont have them being called greedy or selfish as it is just not right.

I'm glad you haven't enountered people being greedy and selfish on this forum, but others have. Fact.

"Now THAT is what the people on this forum will do for each other" ... then why haven't they in my case? So whether something works out for you is the deciding factor on everyone's experience? That's stupid, and would be akin to me saying that since nobody has ever helped me out with anything on this forum in many years of asking politely means that nobody on this forum has ever been helped. Great that you were helped. Don't let that inhibit your ability to understand that others have gotten shunned.

Hearing that some people have received friendly assistance from this forum is welcoming, though I have to experience it for myself. I had all but written off this place as an elitist snob-fest where people only care to share things with their same old inner-circle of friends.

Sometimes if you want something you have to aggressively go after it, even when nobody else is willing to lift a finger for you.

This.

I once sat on a torrent for two months in order to get it completed and that was with broadband.  Hell, I remember a torrent on MySpleen that had been dead for nearly 6 months before a seeding request was fulfilled, allowing me and another person to complete it.

Back in the 90's, before I had broadband, I dialed into my ISP for a weekend in order to download OpenBSD (1.5 GB).  I stayed online the whole weekend (there was no way to do partial downloads back then).  Even if you have a bandwidth cap, you should still be able to get it if you give it enough time.  Download half your bandwidth cap each month and eventually you'll get the whole thing.  I know 8.5 gig is a lot and the waiting will be a pain, but you'd get it eventually.

Doesn't work in many situations.

I've sat on a torrent for over a year and got nothing because no one was seeding it anymore, no one was willing to re-seed it, and no one was willing to share it through other means.

Can someone please explain to me whatever happened to the PIF policy on the forum?

I have tried many many times to get hold of edits and no one is willing to help me out.

I have offered to supply discs, postage or anything they need, proof I owe the originals as well but no one is willing to lift a finger unless A) I’m a super editor like Adigitalman or Fanflirtation or B) I have something to trade.

If I am neither a high ranking member nor have a stockpile of other edits then I’m left with nothing.

I donated to Adywans amazing edit of ANH and have my name in the credits for my trouble, but have I even seen it? No is the answer. Why? Because my experiences with getting other edits has taught me not to even bother asking anymore.

Why are some people selfish and/or greedy?

I can second this. I've been here years, and in that time I've asked lots of people, mostly through PM, but also in a couple threads... offering postage, blank CDs, to pass it on to others, etc, and gotten nothing. Nobody here has ever helped me with anything. I don't doubt that there might be someone out there who would be willing to help, but none that I've ever asked qualify, and no one has offered to help in response to my asking for it in a thread.

Idea: STAR WARS REVISITED - The Ultrapurist edition (Tentatively Titled) (Not an Official Adywan production)
Time

The idea for the Ultrapurist Edition is great, and something that is sorely needed (after all, it's why this place was created, right?). I've been thinking about the same thing lately, working from Adywan's colour corrected set, keeping the blooper fixes, and going from there to recreate the original unmassacred film in pristine picture. Thing is, though, that I have absolutely no knowledge on video editing software, so I'm very glad to see someone else give serious thought to doing this.

A couple of the trickier scenes to work with, off the top of my head, would be the Sarlacc Pit and the ending in RotJ. They're also two of my favorite :/

Anyway, full support for this project from me :D

Info Wanted: Is there a preservation set like this?
Time

Is there a fan preservation set of the OT that has taken the DVD bonus disc transfers, made them anamorphic and implemented all the good tweaks from the image stabilization thread? If there isn’t, I think that one should be made (maybe with an added audio commentary track from an earlier release?), but is there already one?

Dr. M's Reinventing The Wheel Edition (PAL to NTSC+) (Released)
Time

Demanding? Sounds like you're reading something other than my postings. Here's a recap for you:

"Anyone want to mail to a Canadian?"

"Hi, could someone please seed TESB RTW?"

"I've been waiting 3/4 of a year, is someone ever going to seed this? If not, will someone mail me a copy?"

Last I checked, "anyone want to," "please," and "will someone" were not demanding words, but maybe things are backwards where you're from, or maybe you're just a poor reader, or even more likely, maybe you forgot to do a fact check while being overly eager to patronize.

Yes, it's astonishing that so many people would happily reap the benefits of somebody else's work for themselves, yet not care to make the smallest effort to pass on what they received freely, even after somebody asks for it. It reeks of selfishness. I've offered to pay postage and cd costs in pm, and gotten the brush off, told to ask someone else, or wait for the torrent - (which I've had running for a year without a seed!). How lazy and uncaring can people be?

I would like a copy of the RTW ESB to complete my set, as I already have SW and RoTJ RTW, and I hope that somebody might help me out. Oops, that wasn't too "demanding," was it?

Info: My latest eBay purchase
Time
JarHead, $27 USD shipped.

There are auctions going for these all the time of ebay, the first of the trilogy is often going for 99 cents or 2 bucks, but then shipping is always around $7, sometimes as low as $4 tho. The other two regularly cost a little more, tho still only by a few dollars. The reason for the cheapness is just because there are so many of them out there, and probably a dozen SW snes games going for sale at any one time on ebay.

Here's a SW snes trilogy with manuals, ending in 6 hours, currently only at $16: http://cgi.ebay.com/Star-Wars-Trilogy-SNES-Lot-w-manuals-3-games_W0QQitemZ120123336602QQihZ002QQcategoryZ62053QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Here's a bundle of 46 snes games, all the SW ones included:http://cgi.ebay.com/46-snes-game-lot-best-lot-ever-includes-rare-games_W0QQitemZ200112143766QQihZ010QQcategoryZ62053QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

The most I've seen is a bundle of something around 450 snes games going for about $400. The guy said he had been trying to collect them all... there are many large bundles that pop up for sale tho, I guess a lot of people have big collections.
