Wallace & Gromit in "The Wrong Trousers" - Original Audio Preservation [Released]

There is an Australian Blu Ray called “Wallace & Gromit: The Collection” released by ABC in 2016 that is 1080/50i. It has the same music alterations as other BD/DVD releases but is the highest quality with the correct speed/pitch.

I also managed to grab a TVrip of The Wrong Trousers from UseNet which was recorded from BBC One around Christmas 2007 which has the original audio. One problem with this one though is that it has a voiceover/accouncer at the end credits. I don’t have any means of ripping my AUS BD but if anyone wants me to share my BBC TVrip, I’d be happy to upload it somewhere.

I was thinking these two sources could be muxed together without any need to re-pitch anything and create the highest quality version.

I would be grateful if you could upload the TV rip. I could pitch correct the DVD audio and stick it all together.

Wallace & Gromit in "The Wrong Trousers" - Original Audio Preservation [Released]
Time

Ever since the early 2000s, every release of The Wrong Trousers has had several musical tracks replaced with generic royalty free alternatives, due to copyright issues that were never resolved. For this project, I’ve restored the original audio to this classic short film.

The specific audio clips that have been restored are as follows:

  • The birthday card now plays the “Happy Birthday” song
  • The montage of Gromit trying to sleep now plays “Happy Talk” and “How Much Is That Doggy In The Window”
  • The next morning, Wallace now hums “How Much Is That Doggy In The Window” as he walks by Gromit
  • The small television Gromit watches as he eats his cereal now plays the Open University theme

V2 is a 4.14 GB MKV. It is HD, Blu-ray synced, 25 fps.

Special thanks to alloneword and d00mb0yz96 for audio sources.

North Dakota is actually one of my favorite states. It’s peaceful and I loved the time I spent there.

Oh, I do love living here. It’s just that stuff rarely happens here other than rock band tours, so the closest location of interest is Minneapolis. I’m happy that where I live, the chances of a natural disaster ruining my home are virtually zero.

★★★☆

Honestly I don’t get why a lot of people act as if this is better than the first. It was a very good movie, but there were some things that I didn’t like.

I never bought De Niro as a young Vito Corleone. His face just isn’t shaped like Marlon Brando’s, and it took me out of the movie a bit when my brain kept trying to shove their faces together to make a coherent connection in my head. There’s also the absence of characters. This isn’t the fault of the film, but it did seem odd that half the cast just wasn’t there because they all died in the first film. Then there’s the fact that it felt a little too long for not building up to anything nearly as grand as the final act of the first film. The first film felt so perfectly coordinated, but this just felt like the story sort of fizzled out.

It was good, but I’m not sure I can see myself returning to it after watching the first film again. Some stories are better left without sequels, and I think this might be one of them, despite popular consensus.

★★★☆

I feel kind of odd about this one. It was really great, but something just felt off in the pacing and story building. I’m aware of the eternal debate around this movie, and I think I’m leaning slightly toward the negative side. The first half of the film is fantastic, but it felt underdeveloped in regards to the characters.

Joker was obviously supposed to be the protagonist since we have his voice-over and the story follows him into Vietnam, but that felt really weird to me since I was never given screen time with him to actually get to know him as a protagonist. He was introduced, but we never meet him. He’s just there, and the narration feels disjointed from anyone I’m supposed to care about because of that. It doesn’t help that the entire boot camp segment is centered around Gomer Pyle, making it seem as if he’s supposed to be the character of interest. I know I felt more interested in him than Joker and Cowboy.

The change to the second half of the film also felt a little odd and without breathing room. It goes straight from the end of a climactic end to the first act of the story, and then suddenly Joker is out in Vietnam. I feel like there should’ve been something there to bridge the gap. Even a “Part II” title card would be enough to make it seem less awkward.

Ultimately, despite some good stuff happening in the second half, the film probably should’ve been just the first half, but longer and more developed. It’s still pretty great as it is, though, and I’m sure I’ll come back to it some time.

EDIT: And another point to the theatrical experience, I’ve been to seven films in theaters since 2015, all of which would be considered more popular to the average crowd, and I never ran into annoyances caused by others in the audience. Literally the only problems were caused by the actual theater.

The Terminator - Color Regrade [No Longer Available]

Thanks!

Here are some direct comparisons between my new regrade, the 35mm frames, and the BD:

I need to figure out how to bring the glow back to those lights without ruining the saturation in the rest of the film.

Yeah, this is meant to specifically approximate the look of a 35mm print. More precisely what I believe a print of Terminator looked like based on the evidence I’m aware of. That’s why it has that contrasty, semi-washed out look, with more muted colors than most home video releases have. Your regrades are usually based more around making the Blu-ray more neutral and natural by fixing the odd color biases present on many modern releases, and I just prefer the high contrast 35mm look with a purist approach to color.

I’m interested in what your V2 will turn out like, since I used to watch your first version before starting my own project.
