Remember when...
Time
I remember when all my friends were ranting about how cool the prequels were, and I was a nerd for liking SW better than the prequels and not calling it a new hope.

I also remember when I first saw the films after my mom and dad rented them from the local grocery story video department. I was enthralled with them, and still am.

I also remember when Go-Mer-Tonic wasn't on these boards, and life was so much god damn better here.

The Spider-Man 3 thread
Time
Doesn't the film have a 300 million dollar budget? That's a lot, and definately more than what's needed. What I'm most worried about in this next installment is that they're going to do another soap opera. In 2, Mary Jane and Spidey got together. Good. That should be the end of it. In 3, it looks like there will still be a shitload of romance drama taking over the action, which really, really sucks.

Also, Raimi went back for reshoots when test audeinces said the film was lacking in the action department. Uh oh....that's not a good sign.

On the left hand side of your post is your screen name, crystal clear to everyone. You don't need to repeat your name in your post.
And I'm not trying to be mean, but posts are much easier to read when proper punctuation is used. You should have written, "This is Darth Cold. My favorite original trilogy movie is Return of the Jedi." Or possibly "This is Darth Cold and my favorite original trilogy movie is Return of the Jedi." It gives your posts more dignity and makes them easier to read. Again, not trying to mean, just giving some helpful tips.

POLL: Which version of the OT do you own?
Time
Voted for OOT-DVD. I assume that means the 9/12 release? If so, that's all I have of the OT now. I have no other versions. Well, I guess I have the 2004 versions that came with it, but there in a box in a hard to reach place. The 9/12 releaes are the best. Best picture quality, original crawl on SW, cool animated menus, and 50 chapter stops. Hard to beat, even in non-anamorphic.

The Star Wars Trilogy: The Novel Adaptation by Ingo Sucks
Time
Not widely published (you can't go out too a bookstore and buy them) but I get copies out to lots of friends and family. The series of novels I'm writing right now is called "Time Trek," but isn't as cheesy as it sounds. It's a bit like Back to the Future; younger person and older scientist who have adventures with time travel. But Time Trek doesn't really deal with Time Travel as much as the theories of it, many of them my own and many quite complex. Book one is called "The History of the World," though the title is a complete misnomer. It's about 50 pages, so I guess you'd call it a novella. Book Two, titled "The Reverse Effect," happens in reverse order, starting with the last 24 hours, and backtracking to the first. "Reverse" is also very different from the first, in that it is a high octane thriller that mixes action with more complex theories told through three page conversations that are pretty darn confusing. It's about 80 pages long. My whole approach to the series is to give the readers a good mental work out, which I sincerely hope I'm doing. I'm currently working on the third book in the series. If anyone would like to read them, I'll post them Chapter by Chapter in the off-topic spot, and you can print them out and read them or just read them on the computer.

I overall like the Jabba palace, and he totally lived up to all expectations, but the language of Huttese is kind of annoying and that little wierd animal that sits by Jabba's tail and is always laughing is so damn annoying.

The stupidest addition to the OTSE was putting Jabba in SW, and this is something I doubt even Go-Mer can deny. Jabba had such a huge buildup, and in the first two films, he was just a villain in reputation, which made him a great villain. adding him into SW just ruins all that drama, and because he was so sloppily done, he no longer feels like a threat at all, and is just a big joke whenever he is mentioned. The Jabba in ROTJ is very menacing, and very well done, but it suggests he is immobile, and he also looks way different from the bad CGI Jabba of the SE.

Info: Hold onto your old Little Mermaid discs!
Time
That was probably just the remastering that was done. I know the VHS was remastered and all that, but the DVD was remastered digitally, and that makes a big differance.
And SilverWook, a few Disney films HAVE made it to DVD unaltered. Most of the platinum editions. The only ones in the platinum line changed were Aladdin and Little Mermaid. Of course, Beauty and the Beast and Lion King both had a song added in, but they presented the theatrtical version as well. (Although the special edition of Beauty and the Beast is clearly the superior version.)

I voted for Star Wars, though I really like it and ESB equally. The thing about SW is, it has a resolution, an ending, and when it ends it ends on a very upbeat note letting you leave the movie excited and cheery. ESB leaves you kind of depressed, but is still an excellent film and a very, very close second. ROTJ is my least favorite, but I do love it. It drags a little, and whilst SW and ESB were nonstop action, ROTJ doesn't have that feeling. And the whole part at Jabba's palace is just....ugh...

The Star Wars Trilogy: The Novel Adaptation by Ingo Sucks
Time
It doesn't take long to write novels. I just finished an 80 page novel, and it only took me....well, it took me four months, but it IS an extremely complex story about time travel and theories about it. But I've written other novels that only took two weeks. And if it's a story you know well, then all the faster.

But I agree with Nanner Split. I can't read books on the computer. It feels...weird. I like holding a book in my hands. Just recently I tried downloading some manga and reading it, because they only release a volume every two months in the states, but I couldn't read it. Just too hard to read on the computer. Movies and music all may become part of the computer, but books never will.

Info: Hold onto your old Little Mermaid discs!
Time
I picked up the DVD yesterday at Best Buy when I bought XMen 3. I've collected all of the platinum editions, because I still love those old disney films and the platinum editions are the best of them, with exceptional treatment. Little Mermaid is no different. I think it looks and sounds great (just skimmed through bits of it) and the bonus features are excellent, though few in numbers. I wish they would pack the bonus features on more on these platinum editions like they did with the Snow White DVD. I got that right when it came out and still haven't watched all the bonus material. It was the same with Beatury and the Beast and Lion King, but then they started to fall behind on the numbers of bonus feeatures. Luckily, all the features are very good and still worthy of being in the platinum line.

The editing of the "it's not an erection" doesn't bother me, because you'd really have to look closely to notice it. I'll take a brilliant remastering over a small edit anyday. It's worth the sacrifice.

Lord of the Rings by George Lucas
Time
The whole thing was golden. True perfection. Hilarious. And it was so true too, all the stuff about "we don't need sets" and things like that, and his rambling about how his vision is so intricate when all there is is blue. It's all so true. And I loved how all the people who stood to make money off of it were just praising George in every possible way.

But then in the end, it got really serious I think. In the last 30 seconds, the speech that cartoon Christopher Lee gave was so true. Lucas takes things fans love and use it for technological innovation. The rest up to the end was true too, about making money, and all the people just going crazy for money. The cartoon had a lot to say, but way also hilarious.

I can't say I enjoyed any of the prequels as a whole, and when I first saw them I tried to ignore it, convincing myself ... "It ain't so bad!", but I'd just be lying to myself if I continued. I can pick and choose parts I like or dislike, or parts that I just think are badly acted, poorly written, or the cheesy, romantisized scenes. It just keeps me from enjoying them as whole. It keeps me from saying I like each of the Star Wars prequels. I've never done that with the first three films, because there was nothing to pick apart, nothing that made me cringe and say, "George ...why?" It's different for everyone, but if I was to say I liked the prequels just as much as I like the orginals, that would go against every grain in body to decipher good film making as opposed to bad.

Maybe younger people like them more than the older fans. I didn't really discover them until I was like 13, which would of been the early 90's, and I probably watched them 500 times through my teenage years. It's hard to pull yourself apart from that nostalgia aspect. They also represent a period in time that was special to many.

But, as Han Solo would say, "Hey, it's me!"

Hey, I'm 13, (14 on Sunday...YAY!) and I HATE the prequels. I think there are lots of people who feel the same in my age group, though it's really the people who are beyond they're years and can seperate good filmmaking from CGI effects.

And I agree with that part about not lying about liking the prequels. I could never say it. I tried to like them. In fact, three years ago, I did. But then I grew up. I started watching the OT. Then I got a set of bootlegs and fell in love with the nostalgic and perfect OOT. Now, I watch them all the time (OOT) and look upon the prequels with disgust. I know why kids like them, and I'm fine with kids liking them, but George should have realized that maybe you can sacrifice that kid demographic so that all will enjoy it in later years. He did that with ESB, and it works.

And your right about that nostalgic aspect. The films of today just aren't...great. They're good, and fun, and very entertaining, but no classics, nothing really rememberable. Only things I can compare with Star Wars are the LOTR trilogy, which are just as good and the best piece of filmmaking in 15 years. I also love the Pirates of the Carribean films. They are great fun, just non-stop action, like the OOT. But the 70's and 80's...that must have been a great time to be a moviegoer. Star Wars, Back to the Future, and numerous other classics.

Do u still have VHS ??

Replace with DVD. Blu-Ray and HD-DVD may be the future of hi-def, but not the future for major video. DVD will, in 10 years, still be the major market. It will be like with Laserdiscs. They took off for a little while, but really only had a relatively small (2 million US players) following. VHS was still the major format. Compare this to today's situation. DVD has been around for 10 years, and now 2 new formats are here. Neither one can ever be as big as DVD, because it will be at least another 10, maybe 15 years before Hi-Def is the standard kind of telivision. DVD has all the bugs worked out (it did a long time ago) and will rule supreme for a long time. Hell, downloading will be bigger than hi-def formats, because for some strange reason, this new generation loves downloading films onto thier computers so they watch them on little screens and get sore eyes. (Why would you watch a film on your computer? It's stupid.) Music downloads are huge, and film downloads will be too, in another 5 years or so. Music downloads are so big because they're just that---music. This new generation prefers they're stupid, angry rap to movies any day.

Sorry for my rambling, just wanted to clarify that the next medium that's as big as DVD or VHS will not be HD-DVD or Blu-Ray. Next time a major, worldwide video format arrives, it will be 20 years from now by the time everyone adopts it, and who knows what it will be?

No more buying SW DVDs for me. Happy I am now. Now, watch them I will.

Absolutely. Even if GL releases Blu-Ray Discs of these, or remastered or whatever the hell else he wants to do to milk this new found cash cow, I won't be there.

And I'm pissed about the 2004 versions as well. Sell them I would, but my dad and my logical center both say to keep them. That I did. They are all in one DVD case, sitting next to the PT, where they belong. (crap pile.)
