Silverkey:
You can even see it on Obi-Wan's face when he first meets Taun We, he has never seen anything like this before.
I thought that was just Ewan McGregor's blank expression because he was staring at nothing for the entire scene.
Inconsistencies with models, sets and matte paintings don't help, just as in many other scenes in Jedi.
I agree completely with that, Bingo. The matte really isn't great, I never even liked it back when the movie was new, so I'd be happy to see it replaced too. And yes, Palpatine is definitely falling down the inside of the tower, not the centre of the station.
A more accurate matte would definitely solve the problem.
Davnes:
I think the elevator shaft in the middle looks just fine.
And, I think the main 'hole' is larger than the gaps around the elevator would have you believe, and extend farther under the floor panels (maybe to where the stairs end).
Exactly.
Thanks for posting those.
brash_stryker:
Not debating that it's a lift that Luke and Vader came up in, but clearly the enormous shaft the emperor falls into isn't just to accomodate a 2 man lift...
The fact that there's a lift is incidental, and doesn't make it exclusively a lift shaft. If it was, it would only need to be wide enough to accomodate the lift itsef. Hence, reactor.
Anyway, in the words of Tarkin, this bickering is pointless.
Then shut up about it. You're the one carrying it on, trying to convince yourself that it's not a lift shaft when clearly it is. The big central tube running down the middle is the damn lift shaft. Your logic is ridiculous and if anyone cares to post pictures from the scene it will be patently clear that Vader drops the Emperor down the hole at the side of the lift. Ergo, it's a lift shaft.
And the glow at the bottom is not the reactor core. Unless you're suggesting this lift runs 450km down to the core and the Emperor falls all that way in about six seconds.
Darth Solo:
Tidy, theres more than one of us then. I dont have the scence to delete my comments after though.
The neon inside of Lukes arm is interesting, but, ultimatly, gives me the feeling of whats wrong with SPFX in Terminator 3 as oppesed to the original filum. Nice, but so very very wrong.
Guess most wont get that though.
The ending scene is epic anywhowz. So i feel it only needs very little tweeking, without being too 'in your face' with any new sequences/eye candy.
But again, great visual mock-ups there fellas (as it gets you tinking).
I agree, it needs no major tweaking at all. And neon workings in the artificial arm are pointless. Yes, they might look wonderful, but for heaven's sake, does everything have to be shiny? I seem to recall one of the major criticisms of the PT over the OT is that in the OT everything had a used, real-world feel. Let's keep it that way.
I didn't like that Family Guy episode, it missed way too many jokes for me.
(duplicate post)
brash_stryker:
You keep saying that he's falling down the lift shaft not the reactor core shaft. Please explain how you know it to be a "lift shaft".
It might be because he's right next to the lift!
And if you look at the scene it's crystal clear that the Emperor is electrifying Luke next to the railings on the lift shaft, and Vader throws him down it.
Watch the scene, it's indisputable.
No, not in the future. Just more advanced than us.
Post deleted, I was being naughty.
But even with pics, you seem to be mistaken. The building behind Vader is visible out of the window in the second shot because the camera is looking out to the left, whereas in the first shot it's straight on and the building would be off to the left. So that's not a mistake.
And the first two pics of the entrance to the room, are they even looking at the same thing?
Yes, why remove the glass reflections? There's no reason to do that, and as Octorox says, adding them to the OT would be make more sense.
Pics would be nice.
I think we should add a tiny Ronto in there somewhere, too.
:-|
Doubleofive:So it is the same, real door. The lighting brightens up considerably, but if it is sunrise as Ady as made it, then this all makes sense.
Well, sunrise or not, it wouldn't brighten up that quickly, unless it was the very moment the sun comes over the buildings and reaches that spot. But then, even if it's actually feasible, it has to look right in the movie. The walls really need to be the same colour throughout the scene.
Thanks for the screen caps, I thought I remembered that door opening.
Eyeshotfirst:
How about you do something similar to Luke's hand. Come on it looks like crap LOL.
The new hand looks dead, I'd recolour the prosthetic bit to look lifelike.
Do we see those doors open? I think the wall is a matte painting, but if we see the doors open, then it's not.
Ithilgore:
I think most people reckon he falls to the reactor core because of the whole "giant blue glowy explosion thing" that him falling onto the surface really wouldn't accomplish.
Well, you're assuming most people also reckon the blue energy released is also from the reactor core, and I don't think that's the case. I for one take the blue energy to be from Palpatine, an explosion of all his power when he dies. And yes, it looks like he's falling into some kind of reactor core, but logistically that's not possible. First of all, he's falling down the lift shaft, not a reactor core shaft, and second, he only falls for a few seconds, several hours too soon for him to reach the core. If he falls for six seconds before exploding, he would be travelling at 270,000 km per hour.
How would that be possible? Valorum lost his post when Anakin was a petulant little shit of age 10.
I agree Angel.
I don't mind at all that he isn't the top dog, but having him kneel really disempowers him for me. The last thing I want to see is more of it.
As for whether that sort of scene could be achieved. Yes, it can be done. But can it be done well? And why would Palpatine need coronating? He's been in that position for what, 15 years? More? All he does is retitle himself and order a change of stationery.
Well, either way, there is absolutely no way they travel outside their own galaxy, whether that phenomena is a galaxy or something much more local.
I really don't mind if it is a galaxy, because it's a nice romantic image, but it would have to be seen from other parts of the galaxy too, which of course we have never seen.
Adywan:
I haven't said i'm using a non rotating version. I like the way it rotates
I was only quoting someone else, I didn't have any reason to think it wasn't true.
I'm glad you're keeping it rotating. As I said before, I wouldn't change that shot at all.
I know what you mean, but then what do we call CG work?
I think we should keep the Empire phenomena to something that would be visible with the naked eye, or less just accept it's something we don't know about and leave it as is. Virtually all the 'photos' of accretion disks and jets etc are invisible to the naked eye and are rendered through other wavelength captures, so wouldn't be visible out of a medical frigate window.
