Your father wanted you to have this when you were old enough but your uncle wouldn't allow it. He thought you might follow old Obi-Wan on some damn-fool idealistic mission.

Sorry if that's not quiet correct, I was writing it from memory. I typed that up to analyze what would episode III would need to be like in order for to be preserve the OT.

those are the only errors i saw, but also from memory so pretty good (not sure if its mission or crusade)

Nevermind the fact that Owen never has any disagreement with Anakin that we see in AOTC about being involved in the Clone Wars. Did he even have a choice? He was a Jedi and the war strted around him, what was he supposed to do? Anyway...

yeah...this brings up how Obi-Wan should have met Anakin during the clone wars but whatever...and just cause we dont see it on screen doesnt mean it wont happen...we're not actually gonna see Anaking and Padme 'make their children'

wont quote the next part cause it would be too long.

But like you said, I dont really think Obi-Wan is lying...he's twisting the facts because he doesnt want to be like Luke, about your dad, he was/is the most evil person alive next to the empire...he killed hundreds of jedi so i tossed him in a pit of lava took his saber and am no giving it to you, enjoy!

Basically i agree, unless it appears that Anakin is dead, and Obi-Wan somehow knows otherwise the Skywalker thing gives it away...which i was gonna say eliminates vader from the third movie but not really. What about this, similar to Rebel11_38's idea. Anakin and Obi-Wan fight with Anakin ending in the pit of lava, we all think hes dead as does Obi-Wan. Then the whole scene with Obi-Wan running through a star destroyer going after the emporer and he comes into the room he thinks it is, or even passes through a med ward and he sees vader and then there can be a body that we are mad to believe is Anakins, but maybe we just see his old burnt up clothes and lightsaber...Obi walks up to it all saddened (cue the solemn music) picks up the saber etc. then we hear the unmasked vaders voice...not Hayden's voice but kinda of a raspy version of JEJ, i mean he was tossed in lava, im sure he has some vocal cord damage and its partially going through the voice modulator (maybe the voice says your friend is no more or something like that) Obi-Wan turns around, and see's vader on the other side of the room...mask off like said, camera angle hiding the face from us as the mask is lowered down (after he is masked he stands up and we get to see vader for the first time in his full glory), he's in a much less elaborate dome thing like we see in Empire. This makes it just look like he's just in the med center for the respirator.

maybe they struggle, vader obviously overpowering Obi-Wan and Obi is loosing ground fast (mind you this is during a big space battle outside cause they are on a ship) Obi-Wan knows he cant win, force still on his side though the Star Destroyer gets hit close to where they are...sparks everywhere, dust, equipment falls, Kenobi makes a retreat using this cover...it clears and Vader sees Obi-Wan left and walks out of the room (ala bring me the crew for questioning i want those plans on the Tantive IV, turns and walks out with authority)...in case you didnt pick up on it, Obi-Wan still has Anakin's saber from the pile of burnt clothes and stuff. So end result at this point is, We see vader, Obi-Wan knows who he is, we think Anakin is dead...the whole lava pit still happens.

The whole last name thing works like said, cause now we think Anakin is dead. As far the one student...this is tricky, mainly because if i remember this discussion is just dealing with the third movie and leaving episode I and II intact. Changing one and two we could have other students before anakin and minor references to them could be made, but as it stands Obi-Wan goes from Padawan to Anakin's Master...I guess, and this is kinda strecthing, that if in episode III Anakin is no longer a padawan, obi-wan could take on a new student, but at this point with a war brewing and all that this wouldnt likely happen. Plus who would want to be his student, look at how is previous student turned out

Quote

Oh, and what is the thing about Han/Lando/Chewbacca? Is that part of an idea for the prequels? Sorry, I'm lost.

I dont think this delt directly with your how to make episode III work questioning, but more of ideas of what the PT in general could have been/included.

Quote

One more thing - about Ben saying "he betrayed and murdered your father." could be explained by showing Darth Vader taking credit for the death anakin, for turning him. During that same scene I described even. Obi-Wan is angry because he basically had to kill Anakin. He tries to get to Palpatine, but finds Vader/Anakin instead. Anakin/Vader has kind of gone mad at this time and starts ranting about how he was responsible for Anakin/his death. How he let the evil free that led to his death. I don't know, what do you gusy think?

this would also appear to be the case because it would be vader in the med room with anakins "remains" and his comment/Obi-Wan's reaction could then be taken as you killed my friend...maybe Obi-Wan thinks Anakin is dead, but then hears something that he is alive on this ship, so (since he was reckless in his youth) he takes off and gets on this ship to find him, so its not Palpatine he's looking for but his friend who still wants to save. then he comes across the charred cloths and the lightsaber and we maybe see a random body in the background that we cant identify.

In fact, why the hell didn't Obi-wan change his name - calling yourself Ben Kenobi is hardly a foolproof alias - luke put 2 and 2 together quickly enough. And hiding baby luke with Darth Vader's step brother (only living relatives in fact) wasn't too smart either.

pfft, you and your silly logic

actually, if you never show that anakin is vader it will kinda work...only problem is that you then cannot show obi-wan 'kill' vader...and the whole anakin is totally evil...yeah...like i said before...silly logic, it has no place here

this is why i think no mater what you do, and even though the suggestions i made will make the movie flow (albeit) killing a few suprises in a chronological order...i think the movie is really best suited for watching OT then PT at least the first time you ever see it...after you have seen it i think it would work either way. And im not saying this is because of how Lucas did the PT, its more of because of the story that people wanted and that he chose to tell combined with the fact that of the order they were made and that there was obviously no thought given to making the backstory for the original OT (cause then things like changing lukes last name could have been done...though luke lars just doesnt have that ring to it).

no, dumbo drop is a diff one...i think ric is right, the second one is an elephant and i have no idea about the third.

I can check when i get home as i have all three...i originally only bought the first...my dvd started acting up and i went to replace it...for like $3 more or something really cheap i could just get the pursuit pack...i figured why not since all the extras on my original first dvd still worked and it was only the first 15 minutes of the movie that had problems...so i bought that...even though i only vaguely remember seeing the 2nd and never knew about the third.

Obi-wan cant think anakin is dead...i mean it works as far as not reveiling vader...but then it makes Obi-wan an out right liar. Cause he tells luke vader killed anakin, and if he thinks anakin is dead, and knows he pushed him in the fire then he wouldnt know this is only a 'certain point of view'

i think something along these lines could work...maybe during their fight Anakin is in a position to kill Obi-wan and as his last escape the only move he can make ends up knocking Anakin into the lava...well not directly...he's like hanging on the edge saberless (not trying to make this all like the Maul fight). Anakin then does that cliche bad guy, oh no, dont let me die thing...obi wan trys to help him, maybe gets pulled down and is also hanging from some edge...they struggle and anakin mainly just trying to pull obi wan down not really seeming to care for his own saftey. Obi-wan manages to fend him off, but in the process knocks anakin into the lava...maybe have anakin just give one of those creepy evil smiles he has as he falls (or yell "I'll be back" )

I dunno, think im mixing a few ideas, cause one was that when obi-wan offers to help and tells anakin he can be forgiven and repent and all that crapola, anakin just kinda reaches up his hand like he's gonna take it then lets go and falls in...then giving the evil (knowing) smile as he falls. I dunno...just really rough ideas.

As far Han/Lando and the falcon...something like that could work, but i think it should be something more underhanded...not a threat...like maybe a game of sabaac (i think thats the 'poker' game they play in star wars). fully legit game, so there are impartial third parties..maybe even a judge. Stakes get high, Lando is loosing maybe basically on his last hand, has a killer hand but no money to bet on it so he wagers the falcon knowing he cant loose (he has like the second best hand in the game) Han accepts and when they show their cards Han has the best hand or something...beats him buy like the poker equivelant of. Lando knows Han cheated (which he did) but it cant be proved...know one actually saw anything and the official calls it a fair play...Lando is now bitter about loosing the falcon.

The Curse of the Blue Lightsaber

Speaking of lightsabers, what is the story behind Mace's purple blade? How did you get George to agree on a color other than blue or green?

The Story? There's no story, is there? Well, there's no real story. One day I just kinda asked George if I could have a different colored lightsaber. He asked me what color I wanted, so I said purple. He then asked me why. I said, "Well, I just want a different color because I am like high up on the Jedi Council and have a bit more power, second to Yoda, and I think I should have a different color." George said there are only two colors, but that he would think about it. When I came back later, he said he had something to show me, and there it was. George said it was just an experiment for the moment. But somehow or other, even though he had done it as an experiment, it was already on the Internet. People began wondering what it all meant--Mace has a purple lightsaber. It was nothing--I asked and he said okay.

Did you get to keep you lightsaber after filming was complete?

Yeah, I did. I asked George if I could keep my lightsaber and he said okay. I couldn't believe it. So I guess this means now people are going to try and break into my house to try and get my lightsaber. (Laughs) "We know where it is, let's get it, let's go in and just get it!" I can see fans now, lining up outside my house. Trust me, it's going to be locked up in a safe-deposit vault; it's not going to be at my house. I'll just own it.

Thats from Issue 80 March/April 2005 issue of the star wars insider.

If its totally true and not a bunch of misinformation propaganda then i guess that clears up that issue. Included the second question cause I thought it was cool...lucky bastard

The new Willy Wonka looks good too, as it's going to follow the novel more (the title will now be "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory").

I dunno, im not really feeling a new Willy Wonka (though honestly i know very little about it) I just think that Deep looks way to efeminen (sp?)

Some remakes i do like are (possibly cause i havent seen the original or saw the original after the remake)
Thomas Crown Affair
Gone in 60 Seconds
Italian Job
The Jackal (i believe there was a previous movie for this)
Various Robin Hood remakes are good
Last Man Standing
The Saint (not really a remake, but based off an old series)
and im sure there are others...

I havent actually gotten a chance to watch the ones currently on myspleen yet, so didnt realize they had burned in subs. if i had known that, and known a new version would be coming out i wouldnt have burnt them to disc, at least not a disc that i had printed an image on...

Too bad it's mostly a rehash of what Han told Greedo.

I think he was refering to his appearance in TPM.

In which case, that apperance is so short that it is a nice cameo and really only sets Jabba up as some gambler ring operator, they could have easily used Jorba in that spot (i believe that is Jabba's father, or is it Zorba, either way, some other hut, possibly one that is related but since they dont have last names that would be somethign for the EU/Books to elaborate on)

But i can also see the reason for leaving him to Jedi. Since he really isnt mentioned specifically in the PT, except for the breif scene, it kinda works nicely in this respect. We here about these bad ass Hutts that rule the planet in TPM, then we hear even more about them in Episode IV, and about this specific one, then In Empire its even more about how big and bad Jabba is...then in Jedi we see him and its like bam, heres Jabba, this is what a hut looks like, this is the bad ass Jabba (typing this i would agree with the not seeing a Hutt at all in the PT, it adds to the suspense of who is this Jabba guy)

I think the current PT/OT will work best if watched OT then PT...ideally it should have been written so it works PT then OT as well as OT then PT

I agree with a lot of what GlopOfGrease said.

Anakin should have been older and it should have been all Kenobi wanting to train him, none of this Qui-Gon (though he's a cool character, he just introduces to many plot holes)

Even with allowing Jedi to love, you could still use have that 3 way struggle i mentioned in my 'add on' to Rebel11_38's prequal idea...just slightly modified to do be a tension/strain forming in their relationship because hes doing the dual Jedi/Sith thing and hidding all this from everyone (well except Palpatine)

I think one of the biggest problems with the PT is as follows:

In A New Hope the movie was made to stand alone if the sequals couldnt be made, so it has a struggle that is fully resolved by the end of the movie. When Empire was made it ended leaving you hanging...it didnt just cut you off but you needed Jedi to find out what happens to the characters.

When Lucas made Phantom Menace he used a similar set up to A New Hope. Yeah, because of our knowledge of the saga as a whole its less so, but it still has that same feel, the only contrary thing to this is Palpatines comment "We'll watch your career with great interest". Attack of the Clones leaves you with a more similar feeling to the one Empire leaves, a what happens now type feeling. Yeah it leaves us with a partial closure, just as Empire did, but theres that definate feeling that there is more to come, your not satisfied with where all the characters currently are. ROTS will (hopefully) wrap it all up. It will obviously have a darker tone because its essentially the start of Emperial rule, but it will end the story line.

What lucas should have done is treat the whole PT as one story (similar to the way it was outlined here, the ideas are a plot outline that covers all three PT movies as a whole). He knew he was gonna make the 2nd and 3rd so why waste valuable story telling time with a conflict that only servers the purpose of bringing all the characters together and then limit yourself to 2 movies that actually tell the story that your trying to tell. This single story should (in my opinion, and i believe others as well) start with Anakin as a teenager (15 ish maybe) the earliest. probably around lukes age (18-20). and like Rebel11_38 said, during the clone war when he and Obi-Wan meet (Obi-Wan senses the force in him/his flying as Qui-Gon did in TPM) and basically follow the story outlined by Rebel11_38 and continue up to the end of the jedi/rise of the empire.

I dont think that we need to see the rule of the empire. I think that the killing off of the Jedi taking place as Palpatine is doing basically what he is doing in the actual prequals is what would be shown in the third movie as stated, and this movie should basically end with the Jedi all but wiped out (Yoda and Obi-Wan are obviously still around, maybe a few other random Jedi, but only nameless Jedi Knights) There would basically be a scene with Palpatine 'taking the throne' and Vader joining him at his side. Something to signify that he's now in control type thing. then maybe a cut with Obi-Wan leaving Luke with the Lars. This could go either way...if the scene is there it give it an ending similar to what i was talking about in Empire...actually to preserve the OT i would def leave out the mention of Leia...and by this arguement i would actually change what i just said so the end is a shot of Obi-Wan taking up residence on Tatooine, then the scene with Palpatine and Vader (I would go from solemn music with obi wan the cue the Imperial march on the last scene) then roll credits.

and as far as my comment about Yoda still being around, i would make it so his fate is unknown...just kind of loose mention of him and dont show him after the last mass slaughtering of the Jedi occurs. what this does is make the movies watchable in PT then OT order without ruining any of the suprises (Vader is lukes father, leia is luke's sister, our first intro to Yoda)

and it would obviously still work watching OT then PT, only prob i could see is people might want some more of those continuity points (a Yoda scene, Luke being left at the lars, leia being left with bail organa)

I think if the Naboo/Alderaan swap was the only difference that line would still work. I mean essentially the planet was peaceful, they really didnt have any weapons which is why they were so far up sh*ts creak when the trade federation came in. The only tension that existed was with the Gungans, and this was only tension cause each side was afraid of the other due to lack of knowledge (or at least thats how the Gungans felt towars the Naboo)

So at the end of the movie, this tension no longer exists and therefore they resume their peaceful ways, probably even more so due to the lack of tension.

Plus by no weapons I highly doubt that she meant there was not a single gun on the entire planet. It could just as easily mean there is really no army...yeah they have a small volunteer militia with a small cache of basic munitions, but nothing substantial...beside...in the 30 years that passed, with the Emperial rule, its possible that they truely are weaponless

I agree.

quick question...in your vision, would anakin have been doing these assassinations of jedi while he was a jedi? what i mean was, when you say the jedi eventually figure this out are your referring to the fact that they find out that anakin is in fact a rogue jedi (sith) and the one responsible for the murders? I guess when you said this i kinda saw him as mole in the jedi order.

as far as meeting Padme, that could have been worked in as meeting her after he meets Palpatine. He would meet palpatine as a Sith Lord, after joining him but before the rest of the jedi figure this all out. Palpatine would inform him of his real identity and they would have interaction outside of their Sith dealings. It would be at this point, say Anakin is meeting up with Palpatine in the Jedi/Politician situation. Some political meeting would just be ending and he would get his first glimps of Padme. He then becomes obsessed with her and ends up talking to her and the whole relationship develops...the turmoil of his now 3 lives (Sith, Jedi, Relationship with Padme) would end up being what causes him to slip up some and allow the Jedi to figure out he is responsible for the Murders. This would be where Obi-wan confronts him and the battle ensues

In this situation the whole need for a struggle on a Naboo (or Alderaan isnt needed) and i think it would have been a much more cohesive story

Why couldnt Lucas come up with this?

I think that guy is out of line.

First off, if they really dont want an off topic forum then he could have been just a little bit nicer about it (look closely at his reply and im sure you can find just a little room for improvement )

Secondly, I havent been on many forums, but every forum I have been on has/had an off topic forum.

I think most people (select few excluded ) would love to see all three movies in this version...but if Neil and The Biz arent gonna share cause they told the authors of the disc that they wouldnt spread it around then I can respect the whole 'honor amongst thieves'.

If however someone that doesnt mind sharing gets ahold of these discs and gets the to Rikter or someone to torrent them, then you'll hear no complaints from me.

But in the mean time Ill just wait (im)patiently for Zion's and MeBeJedi's versions to come out
