honestly i think its somewhat of a false shortage...not saying that we dont have to worry about a shortage...but i think the panick brought on by rumors and talk of $4 a gallon has pushed people to fill up and essentially caused a shortage.

hopefully things will settle within the next week or two and then even drop some once the pipe lines start flowing again.

I agree as well, just saying that ive heard that as a possibility.

The lizard would be cool, They did mention Dr. Conners in the first and showed him in the second, so its possible they use him, but use him or not, i think they should have set up his field of research some more in 2 when they showed him.

I would love to see venom, but that would really need to be 2 movies and thats if they portray it in a similar way that they did in the 90's cartoon. Plus they could have brought the symbiot back during 2, not that they still cant do it, but if they do its looking like they wont use brock, he only had a passing mention. They have JJJ's son's set up in a position to hate Parker already (Brock hates Parker, Symbiot hates Spider-Man) so they may twist venoms character that way, which i would be against (dont think they should change the origins of the characters too much) Though there is also very strong set up for Green Goblin 2. I dont think they will really push that off with the setup they gave it, but they might (wouldnt be typical hollywood though) which would be nice. My fear is that they give him 2 villians to fight, which doesnt generally seem to work that well.

The other thing to consider is, if im not mistaken arent the actors only signed on for 3 films? Im not really a fan of the changing actors in the middle of a saga. So if they only go with 3 then its more reason they wont do venom, unless they do it in one film which i think will mess it up.

there was the shortage rumor in MD as well, just saw on the news about $4 for reg and $7+ for premium at some stations...the rumor was shown false and prices lowered and are now at about $3.49 for reg...i have a performance engine so get the premium but i still get better mileage than my old car...i pull about 32mpgs but can prob get close to 40 if i drive 'mile conscious'. I may drop to mid grade to save a few bucks.

aspect ratio

Im not exactly sure what your trying to do, but it sounds like you are trying to take a show that was broadcast in 4:3 and convert it to 16:9, only way to do this is to squish the image (not good) or crop the top and bottom (also not good)

its not about having something in widescreen, its about having it in its OAR (original aspect ratio). when you see shows (like tv shows) on cable that are shown on an HD channel in widescreen (16:9) and on a regular channel in 4:3 these are filmed in 16:9 (or for 16:9 in case of open matte, not sure if they use open matte for tv shows) and then cropped, pan & scanned, or such to show the 4:3 version.

in short, if you captured it as a 4:3 you should leave it as a 4:3 because its either already been cut up so cropping it more would loose even more picture or 4:3 is its OAR

Obviously im making up numbers but you get the point (at least i hope you do).

i never said texas could only hold 50,000 people. I was saying its not how many people you can physically cram into a givin space. while still maintaining some level of comfort and also have adequate supplies for them.

Just cause texas is a large state as far as area goes doesnt mean that it can instantly support a very large influx of people (no use of numbers because that seems to confuse people as to the point). why bother bringing the people to a different location if your just gonna cram them in a different building, in a different state, with not enough food/water. obviously the conditions would still be somewhat better as there would be electricity, but there is still a limit to how many people can fit in the Astrodome or other locations. further more, there is a limit to how much food/water is available there and how much/fast more can be brought in.

Im not saying that the number is 75K, im not saying its more or less. Im not even saying we shouldnt get everyone out of the disaster area as soon and quickly as possible. But just moving 100k people from point a to point b is a task in and of itself, not to mention all that has to be accounted for when you get them there. these people have lost everything so everything needs to be supplied to them, and no matter how much land area a state has it doesnt mean they have the infrastructure/supplies to handle a large influx of people. and this is all about saving people, and there are long term conditions, its not like they will be able to move back next week. cramming all the people from one dome to another isnt really gonna solve/help anything.

I think its unfair when people say, oh, just move everyone over to texas, its big and 'right next door' and dont realize that its just not that simple.

but i do agree with ADigitalMan's comments. I mean, its not like the hurricane just popped up out of now where. I personally think the press shouldnt be allowed there, clear them out and replace them with the releif workers that will actually improve the situation instead of just standing by and pointing out the dying people for ratings.

DVD clamshells...where to get them?
Time
yeah, those are the scanavo (or at least use the same design as scanavo) ones that ive mentioned a few times. I havent actually got any, but I def plan to get a few (prob an assortment of them) for various uses. Couldnt find any store that carried the whole line of the overlap cases. Not sure really though if i like the overlap case for 2 discs or if i prefer the one on each side. Ive also seen the 3 disc cases without the flap in the center, overlap on one side and another disc on the other side.

Have you gotten any of those in the past? If so I'd be interested to hear your opinion on them (quality and such, what do you think of the overlap design).

Anyway...

To be fair, I've never really had a problem with Firefox and Java .

java script not java, they are two different things.

Probably a dumb question but how do you have it configured? You realize FF does not run JavaScript by default for security reasons...

I dont as I dont use it, but my boss switched (not sure if he permenatly switched or was just trying it out) to it and then when a web based program didnt behave the way it was supposed to he brings it up to me, but never mentioned the fact that he had switched browsers. the thing is, the whole reason the program even uses java script is because he wanted pressing the enter key in a field to act as a tab ('because thats what people are used to', in my experiences not in web sites but whatever) so to do that i catch the enter key and replace it with a tab, then send it on to the browser using java script.

though, if firefox isnt configured to use java script that would explain why it completely ignores that code

Worst changes to OT in '97 and '04

Gotta agree with gaffer here. Plus, he asked for his shuttle, then next time we see him i think its safe to assume he's on his star destroyer. We dont need to see him travel there to keep track of him, give yourself and the general audience more credit than that. Its those aspects of the prequals that get me the most, how Lucas has to spell everything out and couldnt let some things just be infered from the context, we dont always need the dialogue to tell us everything. Similar to the Biggs/Tank thing, it was always pretty clear to me that Biggs/Tanks were lukes friends growing up, and thats enough for us to feel luke's pain when Biggs dies. Actually, since we dont see Biggs in the beginning it makes it seem like its been even longer since they have seen each other, which makes biggs' death shortly after their reunion more painful.

Official thread to complain about textbooks/bookstores

Gaffer, couldnt you just give your book (since you couldnt sell it back) to your girlfriend? I mean, even if they issue a new release every year, they are generally the same book, maybe a couple pages change, they just release new books every year to screw the students.

I really hate when the professor makes you buy their own book for the class, thats pretty messed up. I had one professor that was in the process of writing the book and he would give us photocopy packets of each section, that was cool. But I also have friends that had to buy "books" their professor wrote that were just printed papers in a notebook.

You know what makes it all worse, that professors usually get a kick back from the publisher for using a certain book. Thats crap if you ask me.

Glad Im done with the college thing. now the only 'school supplies' i have to buy are Kendo/Iaido gear for my class that happens to be through the community college. Some of its expensive, but you also have choices on what to buy (and actually can get away with only spending like $35) and it lasts way more than one semester. Plus the class is fun.
