The Prequels as Mando style episodes; PM for Links
Time

Well done jrs81, watch Episode 1 - Phantom Menace: Invasion so far and have to say the prequals lend themselves well to the episodic TV show format alot better then its original movie viewing. Might be worth doing what Anjohan did with his edit of TPM here by dubbing and subbing Gunray and kin with an alien voice then can change up the poor dialogue in the film via subs.

The Book Of Boba Fett: Rewritten - A Fanfix
Time

About This Fanfix:
The Book Of Boba Fett Rewritten is a fanfix with the intent on giving Boba back that edge to his character he once had in the original trilogy by making him less apologetic and sympathetic to others around him, making his followers question his judgement less & removing unneeded dialogue from him where possible as well as fix any other issues within each episode to better convey the story being told.

If you didn’t like The Book Of Boba Fett series storyline this fanfix series edit won’t change that as my goal is to keep the same content for the most part but fix the glaring issues the show had for example cut back on Fett coochie cooing the rancor, not having Fennic make the decisions for Boba or second guessing the decisions he makes to name a few. I also attempt to address a few other issues for example like speeding up the speed bike gang, removing the Jabba kitchen droid chase scene and showing less of Boba getting his ass kicked in he’s series first fight scene.

Chapter Change list:

Chapter 1: Stranger in a Strange Land

 • cut the first shot only of the stormtrooper in the sarlac pit as the bright white clean armour along with the bright lime slime cheapens the scene.

 • removed a few frames when the tusken raider squeezes the bug juice into Bobas mouth as again the thick bright lime slime comes across as cheap.

 • cut Boba running his hands down the watchdogs face after knocking it out.

 • cut Boba explaining to the rodian he wants to also free him too

 • trimmed Boba politely asking to move twi’lek majordomo along during the palace throne room scene after not paying his tribute.

 • trimmed Bobas dialogue in the cantina in Mos Espa so he appears more direct and less friendly.

 • rearranged the assassin fight scene to show a more capable fighter in Boba by having him fire on assassins just before they put their shields up and editing the fight to show Boba taking less hits, also the gamorian guards cut into the fight quicker.

 • trimmed Bobas dialogue with the tusken kid while digging in the desert as its obvious what is conveyed through hand gestures alone

 • cut Boba telling the rodian he could help him escape the tuskens if he keeps quiet, he now just states “I could strangle you with this ankle chain and feed you to the watchdog”

Chapter 2: The Tribes of Tatooine

 • cut Boba explaining his holding the gaffi stick the same after being hit during training.

 • trimmed the train heist scene to show Boba throwing the droid driver off the train instead of threatening the droid with his gaffi stick then watching the droid open a window and hop out.

 • removed the lizard going up Bobas nose during the tusken scene now shows Boba coughing after the tusken throws powder into his face sending him into a dream state only showing the lizard leaving after he finishes his trial so the audience is just as surprised as Boba when he learns the lizard is not part of the dream.

Chapter 3: The Streets of Mos Espa

- Updated Chapter 3 to v1.1 with the following changes -
- trimmed the speed bike gangs initial slow start up scene before chase
- improved the yellow speed bike cut to during chase before crashing

 • cut Bobas dialogue with the palace droid being concerned over hearing the name Jabba

 • cut Boba asking for Fennecs advise in the throne room

 • slightly trimmed the speed bike girl moaning to Boba about not working

 • slightly trimmed Boba getting off his bantha before seeing Pykes for pacing

 • cut Boba crying during the tusken funeral

 • trimmed the Krrsantan fight to show Bobas limp feet while being crushed by Krrsantan to portray Bobas in alot more peril and cut to the speed bike girls entrance quicker.

 • trimmed and rearranged what was originally Boba casually walking down the stairs while putting his robe on during Krrsantan fight.

 • cut Boba explaining how he feels about his situation after the fight with Krrsantan to Fennec during the feast scene.

 • cut Fennec questioning Bobas decision on freeing Krrsantan

 • trimmed a lot of Boba doting over the rancor

 • cut Boba being surprised and asking “did he just lock the door” when going to see the mayor, also cut Fennec saying “let me” when trying to open the door Boba now instinctively leaves it to Fennec to open.

 • heavily trimmed and sped up the speed bike chase scene

 • trimmed and sped up the cyborg eyed biker guy driving whilst also removing the exposed set scenery corner backdrop mistakenly found in the scene see here 😬

 • cut the bad joke Boba made to cyborg eyed biker guy about “keeping an eye on them”

Chapter 4: The Gathering Storm

 • trimmed Boba talking to his bantha

 • removed Boba & Fennec breaking into the palace right under the guards noses by re arranging the scene to not show how close the pipe they entered is to the main gate.

 • cut the droid chasing antics in the kitchen

 • cut Fennec stating they need to get to the hanger

 • slightly trimmed fennec shooting the main gates chain when escaping by a few frames.

 • rearranged the sarlac pit scene removing the special edition version beak to the sarlac and removed fennec yelling at Boba to “shoot it!”

 • cut Fennec telling Boba “it’s not safe in there” as hes leaving sarlac pit.

 • shortened the cantina twi’lek Garsa Fwis conversation to Krrsantan.

Chapter 7: In the Name of Honor

 • cut Bobas reaction to Mando getting Freetown people to work for free

 • cut Boba explaining to Fennec his decision to stop spice coming to town for the Freetown peoples assistance.

 • rearranged scene to show Boba making his decision to stay in mos espa instead of going to his palace to fight after hearing what the speed bike girl says and not going back on his decisions.

 • sped up speed bike gang as they drive around town while fennec explains the plan

 • cut Boba asking Fennec what to do now

 • cut the flashback to the tusken raider attack

 • rearranged the Cad Bane showdown to imply the reason Boba doesn’t retaliate is because he knows Banes dirty tricks and Fennec will be the first to be shot, similar to how it went down with the marshal of Freetown, also Boba speaks less.

 • its now Bobas decision to send Fennec to Mos Eisley to hunt down the Pyke leader.

 • sped up speed bikes entrance into the fight

 • cut Bobas line “welcome back santan” he just now says “I have to confess I thought you were gone"

 • cut cyborg eyed biker guys spinning shot, now when the Pykes start shooting at the bike gang members they start limping away beaten holding Krrsantan

 • rearranged the Pykes vs the towns people shoot-out to show a lot less Pykes being shot down, they are now seen as more of a threat

 • cut Bobas lines to Bane “these are my people”

It bothered me that Boba left Fennec to sort out the person involved with killing his tusken family at the end of the show, then she just leaves through the door bit anti-climatic. So I’ve addressed this glaring issue with an alternate ending 😉

PM me if your interested in seeing this fanfix

Any more ideas to improve this series are welcome. 😄

The Acolyte (live action series set in The High Republic era) - a general discussion thread

A few snippets of info. on this particular ‘backstory’ -

https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2022/05/the-acolyte-star-wars-series?utm_source=twitter&mbid=social_twitter&utm_brand=vf&utm_social-type=owned&utm_medium=social

This part sounds great from that High Republic interview…

What are some of your cinematic influences for the show?

“Jon Favreau said that when you’re working in this world, you want to go back to what George was inspired by. There were Westerns and then of course, Akira Kurosawa samurai films, and the fact that he originally offered Obi-Wan Kenobi to Toshiro Mifune. So I actually went more toward martial arts films, and storylines that are a little bit more personal and less global and galactic. Those warriors were on missions that were deeply personal, with people feeling wronged and having to make it right.”

Although a bit concerned Disney may go all team female with agendas to tick off on the project and it ends up becoming something else from this quote from the director of shows Russian Doll, Single Drunk Female, and the movies Bachelorette and Sleeping With Other People…

What can you share about how The Acolyte originated?

“I was pitching with Kathy Kennedy and we were developing this with [Lucasfilm development execs] Michelle Rejwan, and Rayne Roberts, who was like my main gal on this project. She was the person that literally found me and shepherded this idea all the way up to the top. We were really getting into it, and what’s so exciting about those [influencing] stories is that you don’t always know exactly who the bad guys are and who the good guys are. You’re not quite sure whether you can trust the heroine in this case as a result of that. Honestly, my pitch to Kathy was the first time that everybody in the room was a woman. I’ve done many of those types of pitches and I was like, ‘This is trippy that my big [intellectual property] meeting is all ladies.’ That was pretty cool.”

I’m actually trying to edit the two deleted caretaker scenes into this edit, Muffy. An additional benefit is that Luke’s changed line is reverted back to v4. Just trying to make the audio pops go away currently.

EDIT: Also, I realize Snoke’s line about destroying the whole island is missing in this edit with the idea of the caretakers not existing, but honestly I think that scene works better without that particular line to begin with. It just feels kinda clunky.

I would’nt normally go with an alternate version of a fanditors work but I personally feel that 3rd lesson adds so much more to Lukes mindset plus still having Snoke not targeting the island specificity is a good thing 👍.

Also its nice to have a canon version of Hals quality edit with caretakers as who knows they may be referenced in future Starwars material.

Very happy with the epic finale we got, apart from a few fan tweaks needed to mute Boba somewhat and make him more of a leader (as well as sort out that mod bike episode scene😬) I think we’ve got a good StarWars series overall and with the Obi-Wan Kenobi series coming in march its a good time to be a StarWars fan 😁👍.

Restructured is Hal’s edit of TFA, with a few trims and a reordering of the story it offers a nice improvement over the theatrical cut while keeping the overall look and feel from the original. I recommend it if you like TFA and would just like to see a version that improves upon it.

Starlight is a TFA edit by user NeverarGreat, it has a few similarities with Restructured as Neverar helped Hal with some of the edits, but overall it’s a more radical version that has a lot more changes and additions. I recommend it if you’d like to see an alternate take on episode VII, though a few of the changes don’t align perfectly with Hal’s Ascendant.

Rekindled is a TLJ edit by user Poppasketti, it is very similar to Hal’s Legendary edit as it originated from it, Poppasketti did a lot of work that’s included in both edits as they were developed side by side. I think Legendary aligns slightly better with Hal’s Restructured and Ascendant, though from what I gather Rekindled seems to be a favourite among many users.

But it’s up to you which version of TFA & TLJ you prefer, there’s no “definitive” answer. I personally prefer Hal’s edits as a more cohesive experience, but Starlight & Rekindled are really good alternatives.

Thanks, Burbin! Very helpful! Gonna be looking into some (hopefully) superb PT edits after I get situated with these. Right now, I’m on board with Adywan’s OT edits (-he’s how I found this wonderful site).

Great write-up, Burbin!

Just FYI, Hal also created edits for Episode I, Episode II, and Episode III which are absolutely incredible.

Hal’s kinda a fan-editing legend.

Oh… It’s ON!!! Gonna be great watching versions of these films that actually HELP solidify the story integrity and overall entertainment proposition of the entire saga. It’s truly a bummer that the PT and the ST are so “divisive” merely because some of the writing and a LOT of the directing was…questionable - when the reality is that the general premise of the saga is good stuff. I’ve had some of my people spazz out when I played Adywan’s current fan-edits for them. They didn’t even know that something like this existed lol.

I’m not gonna rag on either the PT nor ST too much in this post but, suffice it to say, I’ve long felt that the PT’s main problem was two-fold: Anakin should’ve been a “teen”, as opposed to an 8 year old, when he was introduced, and, Jar-Jar was a clumsily (pun intended?) written/directed character (-because there are other, more satisfying ways in the GFFA to express “humor” that is cool for, both, kids and adults). I didn’t mind the galactic “politics” exposition, and in fact, felt that it gave more “gravity” to that universe as a whole.

The ST, on the other hand, I sadly find mostly un-watchable due to a myriad of things, but chief among them: Death Star 2.0 aka Starkiller Base and the way Rey’s character was written, seemingly to have little, if any, charm. I don’t know if it’s strictly a matter of casting or more a case of directing but… she, nor, any of the other new “big 3” aren’t nearly as endearing as Luke, Leia and Han (even Chewy and the droids) were. That, to me, is the biggest problem with those movies. Everyone loves and roots for Luke because he is introduced as being genuinely innocent and ignorant to the “truth” that shapes the reality around him as he just wants to leave a “boring” home and live out his own adventure in growing up. He then learns a terrible truth, while stumbling a bit and then uses his newfound wisdom and power to help the folks that he cares for while fighting for a greater cause that affects ALL of the other “innocents” of his world. Who can’t identify with that in real life? Again, these are just my own personal opinions in a general sense. YMMV and I’m sure it does.

You should also checkout Ep. III - Revenge of the Sith Special Edition (StankPac Edit) for a quality version of ROTS

…What made Tattooine cool before is that it was a backwater world. The biggest thing tho is that why would boba, a crime lord, want to stop CRIME?

…A few online articles have been popping up criticising the writers’ insistence on revisiting Tatooine, as it makes SW very small despite its setting being an entire galaxy.

Agree on those points it does kinda cheapen the whole idea of a simple backwater world, but still enjoying the show as a whole at the mo.

Ultimately the main issue is theres no actual character development “arc” as we go from the old bad ass Bobba to Rancor hugging compassionate Fett way to quickly.

I look forward to seeing what fanedits can do to better portray Bobbas transition arc though.

… The Book of Bobba Fett leaves me wondering did we really need this chapter in his life? More than that, it leaves me thinking who is this inept wanna be crime lord? How can someone who was one of the top bounty hunters in the galaxy be so ignorant of the underworld? How does his organisation work when it seems to only consist of him, Fennec, a couple of Gamorrean guards and a few droids? Why is he so ‘nice’?

Exactly my thoughts so far, Fetts way too nice in this cooing over the rancor and at one point it looked like he was about to cry over Tusken Raiders 😬.

What happened to big bad Bobba?..

and those bright space Vespas what were they thinking 🤨

All these issues can be fixed with a good faneditor though so not too bad so far.
